Apply
Students will be admitted to the Media Studies major by application process. Students currently in their second year may apply for the major in the Spring for admission to the Program in the first semester of their 3rd year. Applications are only accepted during the spring semester of each year. Students should have a GPA of 3.4 to be considered for the major, but students with a lower GPA are encouraged to apply.
The Application consists of:
Description of courses taken with grades
GPA and explanation of GPA below 3.4
Career Goals: short statement of your career goals. These may be as focused or vague as you like. Apllications are not judged by your career goals.
Experience: work, internship, creative experience relevant to your academic pursuits
Intellectual Objectives: what are your intellectual objectives are for pursuing the Media Studies major. DO NOT LIST COURSES. Tell us what you want to know, and give us a sense of how you think and what you think about. We are looking for a diverse mix of interests, skills, areas of expertise, and attitude. Be as clear as you can be. Please write no more than 500 words to answer this question.(A statement like “I like to watch films” is insufficient; however the following formulations, accompanied by a description of the means to achieve these goals, would be sufficient: “I'm interested in the evolution of the studio system.” Or “I want to trace the relations between notions of intellectual property and internet law.”)
Final Question: Pick an example of a media event or phenomenon that you feel has had a significant social, political, or cultural impact. Why and how did it have that impact? Please write no more than 500 words to answer this question. Additional text will be ignored.
