Judy McPeak
As the Administrator for the department, Ms. McPeak is generally the first person you see or talk to or email when contacting Media Studies. She handles all the fiscal issues related to departmental budgets, grants, and gifts as well as human resources related activities for the department. She answers inquiries from prospective students, parents, and current students about the department, admission to the major and requirements for the minor. She aids in the development of the academic schedule and assignment of rooms and organizes most departmental functions and she cheerfully gives directions to anyone who's lost!
Prior to coming to the University, Judy worked as office manager for the local PBS station where she produced two local programs focusing on caregivers and Alzheimer's disease, appeared on the air during pledge campaigns, and learned a lot about how hard it is for local PBS stations to survive. She credits her four years in the Air Force with teaching her electronics, giving her the opportunity to see Europe, and with honing her organizational skills. Judy and her husband go to more UVa sporting events annually than she can count (Go Hoos!) and she can regularly be found sitting in the audience of many of our students' events. According to her "the very best part of my job is our students!"
