The Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in Persian language, literature and culture, to start August 25, 2008. Applicants must have a primary specialization in Persian language and literature. Preference will be given to candidates whose current research focuses on Iranian cinema or pre-Islamic Iran. Applicants must have the Ph.D. in hand by August, 2008, and native or near-native proficiency in Persian is required. The successful applicant must also have a strong commitment to research, to both undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to collegial service. Teaching duties will include courses in Persian language, Persian literature (in English and in Persian), and the applicant’s field of specialization.
For consideration, please submit a letter of application describing research interests and teaching experience, a curriculum vitae and no more than two writing samples. In addition, please arrange for three letters of recommendation to be submitted.
