Since my High
school days I have had a special
interest in Hindi Literature,
especially in Brij-bhasha Literature
as I grew up in the Brij region of
North India. I’m greatly
influenced by poets such as Surdas,
Kabir and Meerabai. I’m also a
collector of folk tales, songs and
proverbs used in the Brij region
which has helped me in understanding
the people and their rich culture and
heritage. I keep drawing teaching
material from this vast treasure.
I have had a long experience in
teaching Hindi for International
Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. I
am one of the two IB Hindi
Teachers’ trainers and have
trained 25 Hindi teachers in Middle
East and South East Asia in the last
two years.
I have been involved with the
Study Abroad Programs in Rajasthan,
India, for the Universities in the
States. This experience has prepared
me well in organizing and executing a
program in India with a strong focus
on learning Hindi/Urdu languages and
interacting with its culture in a
meaningful way.
I have taught introductory,
intermediate and advanced Hindi
courses in the graduate and
undergraduate programs in the
Universities in US. At present, I
teach accelerated, intermediate and
advanced Hindi courses. I direct
independent study in Hindi Language
and Literature. I am the faculty
contact for the Hindi/Urdu students
at SHEA House, a residential facility
where students only speak the target
language. There, I interact with
students on a regular basis to help
improve their Hindi/Urdu
communication skills.
I love creating stories, short
plays, and poems to make the teaching
and learning interesting, contextual
and interactive and constantly
involve my students in this
process.
