"From Montgomery to Obamacare "

Health Care Road Show

Presented by the Alzheimer's Association, the School of Nursing, the Charlottesville Free Clinic, City of Promise, and the Frank Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy

Date:        February 1, 2013

Time:        12:00-3:00 PM

Location:  Westhaven Community Center

This community-based program will introduce participants to the broad contours of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more commonly called Obamacare.  The program is designed to help the residents of Westhaven and the surrounding community to fully exercise their rights under the new health care law, much of which goes into effect by the end of this year.

Participants will hear from Professor Carolyn Englehard (Director of the Health Policy Program in the School of Medicine) on the specifics of Obamacare, from Sarad Davenport, Director of the City of Promise Initiative on Dr. Martin Luther King’s belief that health care was a central goal of the civil rights movement, and volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Association, the School of Nursing and the Charlottesville Free Clinic will be available for blood pressure screenings and health education.  Lunch provided.

Please note that this is the first of five planned stops for the “road show” by this coalition stretching from now to October.
