		YEAR 1 Find an Advisor Take Core Courses Think about plan of study Preliminary core exam (May or June)	G104 (Department office will complete for you)
		YEAR 2 Submit Plan of Study (by end of third semester) Qualifying Exam (August/September )	G102 + G103 (student completes) G105 + G107* (MSE office completes) *EP Students must give two weeks notice before exam date; EP exams are individually scheduled
		YEAR 3 Prepare to Propose (assemble advisory committee) Research Proposal Defense* (By end of third year) *Proposal and Thesis defenses must be in different semesters.	G105 + G108 (MSE office will complete forms: you must give 2 weeks notice before the date you plan to propose)
		YEAR 4/5 Disssertation Research/ Writing Thesis Defense (must be in a different semester than proposal; thesis defense must occur at least 4 weeks before binding receipt)	G105 + G111 (completed by MSE office: you must give 2 weeks notice before the date of defense)
