We will read critical interpretations of Eminem, Cibo Matto, Missy Elliot, Yoko Ono, Jin, and many others; and historical and ethnographic narratives about Chicano rock, African American punk, Native American rock, Texan Honky-Tonk, Asian American hip hop, American southern rap, British Asian dance music, Japanese hip hop, Brazilian Soul, etc. while analyzing related musical materials.
