Sam Chernoff's Cello Finale
Monday, April 23rd, 2007, 8:00pm - Garrett Hall
Sam is graduating in May, and will be getting his degree in Economics and Music. He has studied the cello for 14 years. In his four years here at UVa, he studied classical cello with Amy Leung, followed by Iris Jortner. He has also worked for two years with John D'earth, studying jazz improvisation on the cello. He has participated in numerous university ensembles, including the Charlottesville Symphony and four different chamber groups.
Throughout his musical career, Sam has been the principal cellist in the U.S. Youth Ensembles, touring all over Europe in 2001. He has also performed the Vivaldi double cello concerto with his high school orchestra, played with the Hoff-Barthelson orchestra, and even recorded on a rock album this past January. In addition to his college teachers, Sam studied primarily with Lila Ainsworth in Scardale, NY and for a brief time with Irene Sharp at the Mannes School of Music in Manhattan, NY.
Sam will be playing the Bach Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major, Eduardo Lalo's Cello Concerto In D Minor, a jazz selection, and an original piece for computer and music, co-composed with Larry Zipf. Please enjoy.
This event is free and open to the public.
