The Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra with the University Singers, present their second annual holiday concert, a compilation of seasonal favorites with pieces for orchestra and chorus. The University Singers, UVA's premiere vocal group, will join the orchestra as will soloist Travis Tucker. Conductor Michael Slon will lead the concert. Due to popular demand, there will be two performances of the program this year. The first is on Saturday, December 2 at 8:00pm, and the second is on Sunday, December 3 at 3:30pm.

Mr. Slon currently is the conductor for the University Singers and the Chamber Singers at UVA. He also teaches conducting as a member of the music faculty and holds music degrees from the Indiana University School of Music and Cornell University. Mr. Slon conducted the Symphony during the 2005-2006 concert season.

Vocalist Travis Tucker will join the orchestra for select pieces. Mr. Tucker appeared on the hit show American Idol. He graduated from the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia in 2006 and currently is a high school math teacher. Mr. Tucker's first album is scheduled for release in the summer of 2007.

The concert is expected to draw many students and families. The wide selection of familiar music is very upbeat and audience-friendly. The groups will perform over a dozen short pieces. The program will include Leroy Anderson's amusing "Sleigh Ride," George Frideric Handel's moving "Hallelujah" chorus from the Messiah, the celebratory "Joy to the World" and the comforting "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

These concerts are sure to put anyone in a great mood for the holidays!
