McIntire Department of Music

Holly Near, singer and activist will present a workshop of "Singing for our lives" with a discussion on her work in music and activism.

The Jefferson Society, along with the McIntire Department of Music, and the LGBT resource center present Holly Near, singer and activist.

Ms. Near has lived her life involved in numerous activist programs she does in conjunction with her music. Ms. Near has worked with a wide array of musicians, including Ronnie Gilbert, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Mercedes Sosa, Bernice Johnson Reagon, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Cris Williamson, Linda Tillery, Joan Baez, Phil Ochs, Harry Belafonte. She has been honored for her work by the ACLU, NOW, and was named by Ms. Magazine as woman of the year.

She will present a workshop of of "Singing for our lives" with a discussion on her work in music and activism. Sponsored by Jefferson Society, UVA's McIntire Department of Music and the LGBT Resource Center.
