UVa Chamber Singers & University Singers
An Evening of Love Songs
Friday, April 27th, 2007, 8:00pm - Old Cabell Hall
The UVA University Singers and Chamber Singers present a special joint Spring Concert on Friday, April 27th at 8:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall. "An Evening of Love Songs" will feature the Liebeslieder and Neueliebeslieder Waltzes of Johannes Brahms, with additional works interspersed, including pieces by Eric Whitacre and Lennon/McCartney. The Brahms waltzes - completed in 1869 and 1874 respectively, and based on folk poetry collected by Georg Daumer - are considered gems of the choral repertoire, and explore the many vicissitudes of love, attraction, and relationships.
Led by UVA faculty conductor Michael Slon, the University Singers is the premier mixed-voice chorus at UVA, and recently returned from a successful concert tour of the Mid-Atlantic. The Chamber Singers, a select subset of the University Singers, was founded in 2005, and continues to explore a variety of repertoire including Renaissance masses, Bach cantatas, and popular songs. The Chamber Singers will also present a performance of the Palestrina Missa Brevis on Sunday, April 15 at the 11:30 Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Charlottesville.
Tickets for the April 27 concert are $10 General, $5 Students, and 5ARTS$ for UVa Students. Free parking is available in the large lot on Jefferson Park Avenue, across the street from Cabell Hall. Handicap parking is available in the small parking lot adjacent to Bryan Hall. For more information please call (434) 924-3984 or visit www.virginia.edu/music/usingers.
