Melanie E. Leinbach, Distinguished Major Soprano Voice Recital
Sunday, March 27th, 2008, 8:00pm - Old Cabell Hall, Free
Melanie Leinbach is a fourth year Music and Archaeology double major from Charlottesville. She has greatly enjoyed studying voice with Pamela Beasley for the last year and a half. Melanie is a member of University Singers and Chamber Singers. She is also a member of Hoos In Treble, a student a cappella group in which she served as music director for two years. Melanie’s program was created in conjunction with a thesis that will focus on the ways in which male and female composers set the same text. As a result nearly half of her program contains music composed by women. She will perform pieces by Amy Beach, Delibes, Hahn, Viardot, Schubert, Bellini, Poldowski, and Clara Schumann. In addition she will perform two selections from Mozart’s The Magic Flute: Ach, ich fühl and a duet with Lawson Anderson, Bei Männern welche. Karen Dalton will provide the piano accompaniment. Preparing for this recital has been one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. She plans to continue taking voice lessons with Mrs. Beasley next year as well as attend a young artist program for opera this summer. Melanie hopes to continue to study voice at the graduate level for the 2009-2010 school year.
J. Lawson Anderson is a third year Economics and Music major from Atlanta. He currently studies voice with James Taylor. Lawson sings with the University Singers and Chamber Singers. He is also the president of an a cappella group called The Virginia Gentlemen.
