McIntire Department of Music

The program affords the listener an opportunity to experience seldom-performed repertoire, with various types of music that were influential to the young Bach. Works include a very early sonata by the colorful and idiosyncratic Uccellini, an early Germanic work by Schmelzer, unaccompanied violin music by Westhoff, and sonatas by the more familiar composers Corelli and Leclair. The program will conclude with two works by Bach: the extraordinary Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue (here performed on chamber organ) and the Sonata in G Minor, BWV 1030b. By experiencing this earlier repertoire, the listener will gain a new perspective on Bach's genius, heard on authentic instruments and with performance practices of the period.

Free parking available, tickets at the door: $15 general admission, $10 students/seniors.
