Join four choruses - 170 voices strong - for a special Family Weekend evening of choral music.

The traditional Family Weekend Choral Showcase will feature the UVA University Singers, UVA Chamber Singers, Virginia Women's Chorus and Virginia Glee Club in concert on Saturday October 27th, 2007 at 7:00 pm in Old Cabell Hall. The concert will feature selections from all four ensembles' 2007 repertoire - including works from Russia and England, pieces by Rheinberger, Whitacre, and Lauridsen, Mexican and Canadian folks songs, a lively gospel arrangement, and a Swingle Singers arrangement of Kern's "All the Things you Are." The evening will close with a joint performance of two movements from Orff's Carmina Burana and the UVa songs by the choruses, more than 170 voices strong.

The Virginia Women's Chorus is an auditioned forty-member choral ensemble conducted by KaeRenae Mitchell. The Virginia Glee Club, founded in 1871, is led by conductor Frank Albinder. This year marks the 50th anniversary season of the University Singers, and they will also be joined on stage by their select subset, the UVA Chamber Singers - both directed by UVa faculty conductor Michael Slon.
