The Arts Board of the University of Virginia
2010-2011 Music Arts Board Application
The Music Arts Board of the University of Virginia is looking for student members interested in creating and planning a music residency. Past members have gained valuable skills through their leadership experience with the Arts Board. As a member of the Board you would have the opportunity to learn and gain experience in arts/music administration, program planning, marketing, and promotions.
The Arts Board of the University of Virginia presents an outstanding artist, performance, and/or exhibition each year in a three-year rotation that includes music, visual arts, and drama. The program was created to raise students' awareness of and appreciation for the arts. With a fee created by the Board of Visitors, funding for the Arts Board program was created. Approximately $54,000 is generated annually through this fee in order to support this residency program.
The purpose of the Arts Board is three-fold:
1. To produce an arts event that will raise awareness of the arts and be an event that will have an impact on the student body.
2. To involve students in the presentation and administration of a national/international-scale arts event and residency.
3. To provide an opportunity for students to interact with the arts presenter(s) selected to perform/present/exhibit.
The Arts Board is a cooperative effort between the McIntire Department of Music, the McIntire Department of Fine Art, the University of Virginia Art Museum, the Department of Drama, and Office of the Dean of Students and the University Programs Council. Each year the focus of the program rotates between Drama, Music, and Visual Arts.
The Arts Board is composed of ca. twelve students and two to three faculty and staff members. The student members include six from the presenting department, two students representing the arts from University Programs Council, and four students at-large. The Arts Board is responsible for planning and implementing the details of the program and managing the Arts Board budget, under the advice and guidance of the Arts Board advisors. The 2010-11 Music Arts Board will be responsible for planning a Music residency and events. Selected students serve a three-semester term (Spring 2010 through Spring 2011).
