| The
number of our music alumni has been on an upward swing for some time.
This
growth in enrollment has resulted both from an increased awareness
of and interest in music at the University. It has also resulted from
the new directions our program has taken, especially during the past
decade. These have included developing strengths in Critical
and Comparative Studies in Music, and in Composition (especially using
new technologies) as well as strengthening and broadening student
performance opportunities. Moreover, we have recently instituted the first
Ph.D. program in music in the history of the Commonwealth.
Because
of the balance provided by the University's liberal arts training,
many of our alumni are thriving, whether they have gone on to advanced
training in music, to music-related jobs, or to other fields. Recent
graduates have gone on to other institutions such as Stanford, UCLA,
and Juilliard to further their work in music. Some have opted for
careers in administration, communications, and digital media and
technology. We are extremely proud to have interacted with so many
University students through music.
If
you are an alumnus/alumna of the McIntire Department of Music, we would
love to hear from you.
Please fill out our Music Alumni Form
to update us on your career, life path, and new additions to your
family. Please include your e-mail address and web page address
so that we can share it with fellow alumni.
We
appreciate your continued support and concern for music at Virginia
and invite you to become an alumni supporter of our program.
