Rachel Becker, Distinguished Major Oboe & English Horn RecitalSaturday, April 19th, 2008, 3:30pm - Old Cabell Hall, Free
The McIntire Department of Music presents a Distinguished Major Oboe and English Horn Recital by Rachel Becker on Saturday, April 19th at 3:30pm in Old Cabell Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Rachel Becker is a fourth-year student majoring in Music with an English minor. She has played the oboe for eleven years, and the English horn for eight. In her Distinguished Major Recital, Rachel will explore the variety of styles in pieces written for the oboe and English horn throughout the twentieth century. At the University of Virginia, Rachel studies under Scott Perry. She has played in the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra for the past four years, and has performed with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera on the James, student organizations including Opera Viva and First Year Players, and community organizations. She has participated in master classes with Dr. Mark Ostoich, Arthur Weisberg, Keith Underwood, and Frank Morelli during her time at UVA. Next year Rachel will attend graduate school for oboe performance. Program
This recital is supported by the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund. Established in 2004 by the generosity of Mr. Alan Y. Roberts ('64) and Mrs. Sally G. Roberts, the Charles S. Roberts Scholarship Fund underwrites the private lessons and recital costs for undergraduate music majors giving a recital in their fourth year as part of a distinguished major program in music. |
