Chamber Singers perform concert dedicated to Jeff LeDuc at First PresbyterianFriday, April 25th, 2008, 8:00pm - First Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville
The UVa Chamber Singers
present their Spring 2008 Concert on Friday April 25th, at 8:00 pm in First
Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville.
This special event will be dedicated to Jeff LeDuc, the late Director of
Music Ministries and organist at First Presbyterian, as well as a committed
advocate of the choral art. The program will include
Bach’s Cantata 182:Himmelskönig, sei willkommen and Vivaldi’s Gloria. The
Gloria (RV 589 and based on
Vivaldi’s earlier setting, also in D major) remains one of the most popular
works in the choral repertoire. Cantata
182 represents one of Bach’s
early cantatas, written in 1714 during his tenure in Weimar. Led by UVa faculty conductor Michael
Slon, the concert will feature soloists from the Chamber Singers, and faculty
musicians from the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra. Founded in the spring of
2005, the UVa Chamber Singers are a select subset of the University Singers, and
perform a wide variety of music for chamber choir ranging from early music to
contemporary compositions. Recent performances have included the Palestrina Missa
Brevis, Bach’s Cantata 150, Schubert’s Mass in G, Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder Waltzes, standards by Harold Arlen and Jerome Kern, and
new music by Meredith Monk and Eric Whitacre. The concert is offered
free of charge to the public, with a freewill offering being taken during the
program. The church is located at
500 Park St., with free parking available in adjacent lots. For more information please call the
