Hearing Israel: Music, Culture and History at 60 An International ConferenceSunday, April 13th, 2008 - Monday, April 14th, 2008 Sponsored by
As the State of Israel marks its 60th anniversary in 2008, the University of Virginia Jewish Studies Program is hosting a unique conference on music in Israel. This unprecedented gathering will feature leading Israeli, American, and European scholars exploring Israeli music as a window into national identity, politics, religion, and culture. Alongside the academic sessions, the conference will also feature concert performances by Israeli musical legends Etti Ankri and Moussa Berlin as well as cellist Uri Vardi and the Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestra.

The Charlottesville & University Symphony Orchestr conducted by Kate Tamarkin, with cello soloist Uri Vardi, will perform works by Bloch, Golijov, and Berlioz.
