Fire and Melancholy of the CelloJenna Kim, Distinguished Major Cello RecitalSunday, April 27th, 2008, 8:00pm - Old Cabell Hall, Free
Jenna May Kim is a fourth year student majoring in Music and Neuroscience. She started learning the piano at age five with her mother and, upon moving to America, began taking lessons for cello at age twelve. She has attended several music festivals, including Aria International Academy in Canada, Varga Celebration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Schlern International Music Festival in Italy. Recently she has performed in master classes with cellist Steven Isserlis and collaborative pianist Lambert Orkis. Jenna’s teachers include Jung Nim Cook, Amy Leung, and currently, Iris Jortner. Mimi Tung, a distinguished piano faculty member at the University of Virginia, has also coached Jenna extensively in chamber music. Jenna loves to study Spanish, practice photography, and shoot air rifles during her spare time. Ji Nin Loh is a third-year Music and PPL Major (Political Philosophy, Policy and Law). She has studied piano for fourteen years, and is currently studying piano with Mimi Tung and basso continuo with Paul Walker. Jinin likes to play Cranium and DDR the night before exams. She is Jenna Kim’s roommate. Jenna Kim and Ji Nin Loh will present a delectable series of pieces that demonstrate the versatility of the cello as well as the technical agility of the performer.
