Obtaining a Tax ID and No-Fees Bank Account for Your Organization
Obtaining a Federal Tax ID
All registered student organization's are eligible for a no service fees checking account from either Bank of America or Wachovia. If your organization does not have a bank account, please follow these steps to obtain one:
1. Obtain a Federal Tax ID (only officers of an organization may do this):
a) Dial 1-800-829-4933
b) Select '1' for English
c) Select '1' for EIN
d) Speak to a customer representative to walk you through the registration process
Obtaining a No-Fees Bank Account
2. Your President should log in to the Student Organization Information Management System
and click on the "Funding" icon. From here he/she should click on the "Request Fee Waiver" button.
This will send an electronic request to the Newcomb Business Services Office (4th Floor of Newcomb Hall) who will provide you with a Letter of Recognition as a CIO to be delivered to either Bank of America or Wachovia.
Please note that a no-fee account CANNOT be opened at the U.Va. Credit Union.
3. Travel to the appropriate bank to open your account with your Federal Tax ID number.
