CAPT Christopher C. Misner
CAPT Christopher C. Misner is a native of Highland, Ind. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science in 1990 and received his commission through the Naval ROTC program from Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont. Following helicopter flight training at NAS Whiting Field in Milton, Florida, he earned his “Wings of Gold” in October 1993.
Selected to be an SH-60F/H pilot, CAPT Misner reported to the “Warhawks” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron (HS) 10 in November 1993. After completing the training program, his first fleet assignment was with the “Black Knights” of HS-4.
In February 1997, CAPT Misner reported back to the “Warhawks” for duty as a flight instructor.
In February 2000, CAPT Misner returned to sea duty on the U.S. Third Fleet Staff as Director of the Joint Air Operations Center on board USS CORONADO (AGF 11).
In April 2001, CAPT Misner reported to the “Eightballers” of HS-8 in San Diego, California where he served as safety and operations department head.
In October 2003, CAPT Misner graduated from the Joint Forces Staff College and reported to the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D.C., where he served as protocol officer for the Chairman and was designated a Joint Qualified Officer.
In December 2006, CAPT Misner reported to the “Red Lions” of HS-15 for his command assignment serving as Squadron Commanding Officer from March 2008 to May 2009.
CAPT Misner returned to Washington, D.C., in July 2009, reporting to the Office of the Secretary of Defense as a military assistant (trip coordinator). During this tour, CAPT Misner was promoted to his present rank and selected to command Naval Air Station Kingsville, Texas.
CAPT Misner commanded NAS Kingsville from June 2013 to May 2016. During this tour, CAPT Misner was selected to command the University of Virginia Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit. He assumed command in May of 2016.
CAPT Misner has accumulated more than 2,500 flight hours during his career. He holds a Masters of Arts in diplomacy and international relations from Norwich University. His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), the National Defense Service Medal (two awards), the Armed Forces and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal.
