Marine Officer Instructor
Maj David E. WrightMajor Wright enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March 1994 as a rifleman. Major Wright completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, and School of Infantry (SOI) at Camp Geiger, North Carolina. Upon completion of SOI, he reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines, Company C, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In March 1997, while on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), he participated in OPERATION SILVER WAKE, a Non-combatant Evacuation Operation (NEO) for the 900 + American citizens and Allies from the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albania.
In December 1997, Major Wright was discharged from active duty as a Sergeant with an honorable discharge and immediately attended Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, North Carolina. Major Wright graduated from Mount Olive College in May 2001 with a degree in Human Resources Development. Major Wright immediately attended Officer Candidates School (OCS) in June 2001 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in August 2001. After completing The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course, he reported to 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines, 29 Palms, California in August 2002.
In January 2003, Major Wright deployed to Kuwait as a Rifle Platoon Commander in Company I in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF). In March, his OEF deployment transition into the “March Up” for OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF). In February 2004, he redeployed back to Iraq as a Weapons Platoon Commander during OIF II. In November 2004, Major Wright was reassigned duties as Executive Officer for Headquarters and Service Company. In April 2005, he assumed command of Headquarters and Service Company until June 2005.
In July 2005, Major Wright reported to Officer Candidates School and was assigned to Company C as a Platoon Commander. He also served as the Training Support Platoon Commander, Executive Officer for Company A, and Assistant Operations Officer. From 2008-2009, Major Wright attended Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).
Upon graduating EWS, he immediately reported to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California and assumed duties as Commanding Officer, Company E. In October 2009, while on the 31st MEU as the Mechanized Company, he participated in earthquake Foreign Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operation in Padang City, Indonesia. In May 2010, Major Wright volunteered as the embedded Police Advisor Team’s Officer In Charge for the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines OEF 10-2 September 2010 to April 2011 deployment to Sangin, Afghanistan.
In August 2011, Major Wright reported for duty as the Marine Officer Instructor and Assistant Professor of Naval Science, Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, University of Virginia. In May 2012, he augmented as the Commanding Officer of Company I, Officer Candidates School, Quantico Virginia.
Major Wright’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Combat Action Ribbon with two gold stars, and Good Conduct Medal. Major Wright graduated from Norwich University in North Field, Vermont in 2007 with a Masters in Diplomacy.
