MuseumOLLI Courses - Fall 2009

Tailored to seniors’ lifestyles, classes are held in the daytime, always in places with convenient parking. Our courses, lasting three to six weeks, fit the typical senior’s schedule.

How to Register

Each person registering, whether to take courses or not, must complete registration and membership forms. If you need additional forms, you may download the Registration/Membership Form (PDF) here or use photocopies. Please include your email address. We use it to notify you of essential information about your courses. We do not share email addresses.

When you register for courses, the fee of $100 includes the $25 nonrefundable OLLI membership fee and $75 for a maximum of 12 course units in that semester. No refund of the course portion of the fee will be issued after the start date of your earliest course. We offer two semesters annually, each composed of two six-week sessions (A and B). Should you wish to take courses in excess of the 12 units for Sessions A and B combined, you may do so for an additional fee of $25 per course. For the basic $100 fee you also may participate in all trips, lectures and membership benefits and receive our catalogs and newsletter, OLLI Notes.

If you choose not to take courses for a semester, you may pay only the $25 OLLI membership fee, which entitles you to remain on our roster, receive catalogs and newsletters, and take advantage of our special lectures and OLLI Outings, as well as our new travel program.

Courses Desired and Alternative Courses

On your registration form, list your course selections in order of their priority. Since some courses fill up quickly, please list alternatives in case a preferred course is filled.

The number of participants in courses may be limited by the instructor or by the classroom size. Processing of registrations begins ten days after the catalogs have been mailed, thus allowing delivery to all area residents and giving everyone an equal opportunity to register. After your registration form is processed, a copy will be returned to you noting your courses. Be assured that we try to accommodate your requests, if at all possible.

You may order books from:

  • The University of Virginia Bookstore (434-923-1000). The bookstore will take orders by phone with a credit card. The store is located on the 4th floor of the Emmet Street Garage next to Memorial Gym in Charlottesville. The bookstore will validate your parking ticket.
  • Blue Ridge Community College Bookstore adjacent to Houff Student Center in Weyers Cave
  • Local used-book stores

Inclement Weather Policy

***NEW POLICY***

  • For information on closings:
  • OLLI classes in all locations follow the Charlottesville Public Schools policy on cancellations, delayed openings for classes beginning prior to 11 a.m. and early closings for classes beginning at or after 1 p.m.
    • EXCEPTION: OLLI classes at Meadows Presbyterian Church follow the Albemarle County Public Schools policy for delayed openings for classes beginning prior to 11 a.m. Classes starting at 11 a.m. or later will be held.

  • If in doubt, call the OLLI office (434-923-3600). Personal safety is the key consideration.
  • When make-up classes are scheduled, you will be notified of the new dates by email or phone.

Course Changes and Announcements

Unforeseen events sometime necessitate changes in courses or schedules. You will be notified of such changes by e-mail or phone. The changes will also be listed on this website.
