Transfer Student Peer Advisors

Hey kiddos, congrats on your acceptance to UVa!! You’re headed down the road to an amazing college experience. My name is Jessica Ayliffe and I am a rising third in the College studying Cognitive Science (pre-med track). I transferred here from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, where my family lives and where I grew up to the somehow not-so-Southern gal I am today. Besides nerding out daily, I love to be outside enjoying the beautiful place that is Charlottesville, throwing Frisbee, biking, playing some goofy version of a sport, and blasting some great jams while doing it. I am a member of the Outdoors Club and VASST (Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboard Team), two of the greatest organizations of the many awesome organizations here. Transferring is a very brave decision, but you’ve made an excellent choice with UVa. One of the reasons is this program and all the wonderful TSPAs at your beckon call. It’s important to remember to be outgoing and put yourself out there, which I know can be terrifying. If you need help with anything ranging from what classes to take to what clubs are out there to what you should eat to help those crazy chocolate cravings you’ve been having (the answer is always Campus Cookies – trust me), please don’t hesitate to talk to me! I’m nicer than I look. I can’t wait to meet all of you but for now, get ready to have your life changed! WAHOOWA!

Welcome to UVA!! We’re so excited to have you! My name is Melissa Bard and I’m so excited to meet you! I am originally from Vail, Colorado (yes, I snowboard... at home) and I transferred from the University of San Diego (I know, crazy to leave the beach...but UVA is 100% worth it!). I am a rising 3rd Year in the Curry 3+1 B/MT program for Elementary Education and am also studying Anthropology in the College! But enough about me, you got into UVA and I KNOW you’re so excited, as you should be! Get excited about the life of a Wahoo. From supporting your fellow ‘Hoos in sports, to finding your lifelong friends in classes and clubs, to enjoying every beautiful aspect of Charlottesville, you have a whirlwind of incredible opportunities and adventures to come! Though it might seem overwhelming in the beginning, these will be the best few years of your life and I’m so excited to be right there with you supporting you along the way!

Hey! I’m Savannah Bentley, I am from Vienna, Virginia and I’m a rising third year in the Comm School. I transferred here in the fall of my second year after playing lacrosse at American University for my first year. Transferring was an incredibly difficult decision for me, but I really could not be happier. I feel incredibly lucky every day to get to go to school here and be a part of the UVA community. At first as a transfer, the best thing to do is to get involved in things you’re interested in to meet people! On grounds, I am a volunteer with Madison House, a member of some McIntire organizations, and in the Delta Zeta sorority. UVA and Charlottesville have so much to offers, so I hope to help you all get acclimated as quickly as possible so you can take full advantage of it! Can’t wait to meet y’all and don’t hesitate to ask me anything. Congratulations on your decision, it will be the best one you’ve ever made!

First of all, to address the elephant in the room, no, I no longer sport the mustache. It was too much of a responsibility. Anyway, HUGE congrats to you for getting into and accepting your offer of admission. For me, being able to call UVA home has genuinely been a dream come true, and I sincerely hope you are able to enjoy it as much as I have. My name’s Pat, I’m from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I’m a rising third year economics major, and I transferred here after my first year at Salisbury University. Additionally, I’m a brother of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI), a member of the Entrepreneurship group and I have had some experience with the club lacrosse team. Though it may take some time--as it did for me--you will find your way at UVA. And once you do, you’ll learn that the UVA experience can’t be beat.

Welcome to the University of Virginia and congratulations on choosing to become a  Wahoo!  My name is Collin Campbell and I am a rising third year entering the Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. I grew up in Roxboro, North Carolina and transferred from Penn State.  Being a transfer student seemed intimidating at first but once I got on grounds, I found there were tons of like-minded people who wanted to meet and become friends with me! I’m confident that the community here at Virginia will welcome y’all in the same manner.  Outside of being a Transfer Student Peer Advisor, I wrestle on the wrestling team here at Virginia and also participate/volunteer in several organizations. I look forward to meeting y’all soon. Don’t hesitate to add me on Facebook or email me if you need anything at all! Go Hoos!

Welcome to the University of Virginia! My name is Ruoxi Cao, and I’m a fourth-year in the College. I am an Economics and Religious Studies major who enjoys ritualizing afternoon tea and jamming to jam-worthy music. I have a ten-year plan after graduation, but like all ten-year plans, it’s subject to change. Overall, however, I would love to pursue graduate education and would love to share my insights about the academic and social spheres at UVa. Please feel free to reach out to me in person, by phone and through e-mail. Welcome to your new home!

Welcome to grounds, you brilliant transfer you. Get jazzed for the best decision of your young life! My name is Stephanie Coffua, a rising third year student in the College of Arts & Sciences. I’m from the blustery city of Philadelphia, and transferred from The George Washington University in D.C. in the fall of 2013. In addition to being a TSPA, I’m a member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honors Fraternity, Third Year Class Council, and the University Guide Service here on Grounds. I can’t wait to meet every single one of you and shower you with directions and helpfulness, I know when I first transferred I lived in a parallel universe of awkwardness and confusion. Charlottesville and UVA in general have so much to offer, and I know you’ll love it as much as I do. Call, email, write, inbox, or sky-write me if you have even the slightest of questions. Get ready for the best years of your life. WAHOOWA!

Hey, Welcome to UVa.  My name is Ben Colalillo and I’m a fourth year from Stockton, New Jersey.  I transferred here from Trinity College, Connecticut, and am now studying Foreign Affairs here at UVa.   I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you and am here to help ease your transition to UVa in any way I can. I enjoy long dinners with friends, hanging out at the beach, reading, talking politics, skiing, and squash.   Here at UVa I coach rec soccer and lacrosse through Madison House, Co-Chair the Class Giving Campaign, help out on Student Council, and Co-Chair the Transfer Student Peer Adviser Program. I’ll be in touch, but please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email if you have any questions.

Congrats, you made it! I’m Emily Cordon from Chesapeake, VA. I’m a rising fourth-year and I transferred from Tidewater Community College in my third-year. I am an Elementary Education and History major. When I am not working hard on my majors, I’m involved in the Virginia Alpine Ski & Snowboard Team with fellow Hoos psyched about winter sports! I’m also a member of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and the Student Virginia Education Association. During my downtime, I can be found hanging out with the amazing friends I’ve made here or running a Netflix marathon. :) I know this transition is very exciting, and also a little scary, which is why I’m here to help! I can’t promise there won’t be any bumps in the road, but in my experience, I found UVA to be very welcoming and helpful, and I would love to share my knowledge of this amazing school with anyone who needs it!

You did it! You're a Wahoo! Congratulations and welcome to UVA! I'm Sabrey Garling and I'm a rising fourth year in the College of Arts and Sciences studying English. In addition to being a TSPA, I'm a member of the Encore club and a shift manager at Ben and Jerry's. I'm from Leesburg, VA and I transferred from Northern Virginia Community College during the fall of my third year. For me, being a UVA student is a dream come true and I know it'll be a positive experience for you as well. Transferring can be a challenge but that's why I'm here. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you may have and try to make your transition as smooth as possible. With over 600 clubs, a diverse population, a strong Greek life, excellent academics, and an outstanding history, what's not to love about dear old UVA? Congrats again and see you this summer!

My name is Tayler Goldstein and I’m a rising third year. I am in the E-school and majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I just declared a minor in Business. School takes up a large portion of my time but I try to get involved in as many activities as possible. I participate in intramural sports, am a member of Habitat humanity, and I am a sister in Alpha Chi Omega.  UVA is more than I could have ever have hoped for. I am so happy here and am always running around trying to take advantage of all the things it has to offer. I had a very easy transition to my surprise and I believe that you will to. The trick was to put myself out there. I am happy to say that I have a solid group of friends who I can call up to go eat at the dining halls, explore the downtown mall, or go to UVA sporting events. UVA is an amazing place and is now my home. Being from Connecticut, it doesn’t bother me that I can’t go back to see my parents or friends at home. I want to be here and I think that is very important.

Why hello there my fabulous Hoos! My name is Carly Gordon and I transferred as a second year from the College of William and Mary to Northern Virginia Community College and have finally found my home in Charlottesville. I am a fourth year double majoring in Spanish and Psychology and minoring in Global Sustainability (ALL the things). The way I found my place at UVa was by immersing myself into a variety different activities including volunteering with Madison House (the volunteer center here), working in the Office of Admissions, getting involved in Greek life, baking with Challah for Hunger, and working on research. I could not be happier with my decision to transfer to the University of Virginia and can’t wait for you to feel the same way! I can’t wait to meet y’all - Wahoowa!

My name is Genevieve Graham (I go by Genny). I am from Missouri and transferred from the U.S. Air Force Academy so I definitely can relate to drastic and stressful changes in life style. That being said, I absolutely love the University of Virginia and hope everyone who becomes a student here is able to have a positive and meaningful experience. I hope to work in the Middle East/North Africa after graduating and am currently studying Arabic and Economics. I am a member of Delta Zeta sorority and I love all things fashion (though I'm not at all a "fashionista"). I worked at Banana Republic my first semester and fully understand the struggle of being a working student. I look forward to working with all the incoming transfers and finding solutions/answers to any all problems/questions!

Hi guys! I’m Lauren, a rising third-year from Ashburn, Virginia. Last year I transferred from Virginia Commonwealth University and let me tell you, I couldn’t be happier to be a Wahoo! I’ve had a blast discovering the school and found my home in coffee shops, picnic blankets on the lawn and the first floor of Clemons Library.  Since arriving on grounds I have become involved in Bridging the Gap through Madison House, ventured to Ecuador with Alternative Spring Break and became a new member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.  Additionally, I look forward to leading an Alternative Spring Break trip next March.  I am enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences and am studying foreign affairs and history.  Transferring is a big transition but never fear! I’ll be right by your side as you maneuver your way through classes, friends, and on-grounds organizations! I’m so excited you’re here and I can't wait to get to know you!

Welcome! You have made an amazing decision in coming to UVA. My name is Katherine Gruneisen and I am a rising third-year from Louisville, Kentucky, majoring in Economics and French. Here on Grounds, I am involved with Free the Children, Smart Woman Securities, and the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. I also really enjoy running, sketching/painting with watercolors, and travelling, and am so excited to be studying abroad this summer in Paris. If you ever feel like grabbing a cup of coffee at Para or walking downtown to explore the awesome shops- please do not hesitate to contact me! I would love to help you find your own niche within the community and be able to call UVA your new home. Congratulations, and Wahoowa!

Congratulations on your acceptance and welcome to the University of Virginia! My name is Nick and my job is to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible with your transition into The University. I am from a distant and far away land called Charlottesville, VA. I am amazed I can even endure the long and treacherous 15 min car ride to go home! With all jokes aside, I could not be happier with my decision to not only transfer somewhere that is close to home, but transfer to such a prestigious institution such as UVa.  As a local, I have experienced a lot of what Charlottesville has to offer. With that in mind I can promise you one thing: if I cant get bored during my 14 years of living here, then neither will you. Welcome to Mr. Jefferson’s Grounds!

Hi! My name is Casey Lunn and I’m from Houston, TX. I lived in Texas my whole life until I moved to New York for school last year when I attended Bard College, and now Charlottesville is my home away from home. I transferred last year as a second year and am now a rising third year Psychology major. Bard was a really small school, so I completely understand exactly how intimidating transferring to UVA can be! I’m here for you with any questions or concerns you may have about anything really, and I can’t wait to meet all of you and welcome you to the UVA family!

On grounds aside from being a TSPA, I am the captain and social chair of the women’s club ice hockey team, member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, NSSHLA, and tutor for America Reads. Well met. I’m Sasan Mousavi, a rising M.A. candidate in the Department of English, after majoring in the same as an undergraduate student. I transferred here from Northern Virginia Community College in the summer of 2012. I hope your transitions to both the University and to Charlottesville will be exceptionally memorable. These are coupled with enjoyable and engaging conversations with friends, family, and new acquaintances. I am a member of the Washington Literary Society and Debating Union, which bolsters these sorts of interests. I’ve also done some plays with Shakespeare on the Lawn and am currently a DJ for WTJX Student Radio.     Click on my name to contact me if you’ve any questions about, well, anything. I also really like egg rolls from cheap Chinese Takeout restaurants. I am involved in WUVA online student media, the Media Studies Society, the Creative Cavalier Initiative (CCI), the Student Hip-Hop organization, the Advertising and Marketing Association and will be working for WTJX 91.1FM student radio in the fall. Welcome to University of Virginia!  I am Lauren Scott and I hope I can be helpful to you as you come to be a part of this crazy wonderful place.  I am from outside of Philadelphia and I am not actually a transfer myself, but have many friends undergoing the process so I have a decent idea of what the process is like, and I had a rough first year so could probably sympathize with any struggles you're having (so come talk to me!).  I am in the A school here and that takes up most of my time and energy, but in my free time I like to go grab lunch at the Corner or sunbathe on Madbowl.  I am so excited to welcome you to UVA, and congrats on your acceptance!  If you ever need anything let me know.  I can't wait to hear about you as you make friends, develop crazy stories and memories, and learn what it means to be a Hoo.
