Housing, Residence Life, and Orientation Application for Office Assistant – Summer 2016

General Information

The Housing and Residence Life and Orientation and New Student Programs seek a responsible, organized individual to serve as a summer office assistant. This person will work with the professional staff to assist with the provision of support to multiple functional areas within the organizations.  This support includes the provision of customer service through a variety of communication methods, assisting with registration of guests and general administrative tasks. The selected person will work 20 to 40 hours per week starting the week of May 4th through August 12th (exact start/end dates are negotiable).  The hourly wage is $7.50.

Applications are due Friday, April 15, 2016 by 5:00 p.m. Interviews will take place April 25-26, 2016.  Successful candidates will be notified by Friday, April 29, 2016.

  • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative on projects

Responsibilities

  • Respond to phone calls and e-mail inquiries from housing residents, conference guests, new students and families in a timely fashion
  • Help Orientation Coordinator and Conference Coordinators manage the online registration systems and wait lists
  • Assist with preparations before each conference group and orientation session (e.g. make copies of reports, generate student/guest nametags, etc.)
  • Provide staffing assistance as necessary to Orientation and Conference Services
  • Other duties as assigned

The Orientation and New Student Programs Office seeks a responsible, organized individual to serve as a summer office assistant.  This person will work with the Orientation staff to assist with the preparation and implementation of Summer and Fall Orientation programs and provide support to the office throughout the summer.  The selected person will work 40 hours per week starting the week of May 5th through August 22nd (exact start/end dates are negotiable).  The hourly wage is $8.50.  Applications are due Wednesday, March 19th by 5:00 p.m.  Interviews will take place March 24th – 25th.  The Orientation and New Student Programs Office will notify candidates of its decision by Wednesday, March 26th.  The 2014 Summer Orientation dates are outlined below, along with a more detailed job description, including qualifications and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Respond to phone calls and e-mail inquiries from new students and families in a timely fashion

Help Orientation Coordinator manage the orientation online registration system and session waiting lists

Assist with preparations before each orientation session (e.g. make copies of reports, generate student/guest nametags, etc.)

Assist Orientation Coordinator with fiscal responsibilities

Help set up/break down equipment before/after orientation sessions

Provide staffing assistance as necessary (including ushering in Old Cabell Hall, receiving deliveries at the SAB, occasionally staffing the AFC during sessions, etc.)

Provide office coverage and receive/distribute mail to office staff

Other duties as assigned
