Introduction

Congratulations on becoming a new University of Virginia student! Now that you have been admitted to the University, you are probably wondering what you should do next. The University will send you several summer mailings to provide you with information and forms that need to be returned before the fall semester begins. This Web site is intended as a supplement to the Summer and Fall Orientation programs, and the various mailings that you will receive, so that you may start to understand how the University works.
As an admitted student, you will be eligible
to register online for a Summer Orientation session once you
receive a letter from the Office of Orientation and New Student
Programs. This mailing will be sent to you on a rolling basis
beginning March 31st, and after the Office of Admission has
received and processed your acceptance and tuition deposit.
Students accepted under the early decision
program will not receive their letter until after March
31st. If you were accepted early, you must wait until this
time to register online for orientation.
In May, you will receive a book called "MyUVa,"
which contains information about Housing and Dining options
as well as Student Health requirements. Please pay close attention
to the deadlines listed for each office.

Computer Information

The Office of Information Technology and Communications (ITC) is in charge of the computer labs and the computer network at the University. ITC will mail you information regarding their services, and their recommendations regarding the type of computer you should have (if you choose to purchase one before coming to U.Va.), Along with information about the computer labs around Grounds that are available for your use. You will also be able to attend a presentation during Summer Orientation and ask questions of the employees from ITC and Cavalier Computers (the University Bookstore division that sells computers).

Dining Services

Dining Services provides numerous locations
around Grounds where students gather to eat with fellow students
and faculty members. The "MyUVa" book, which is
mailed out in May, contains information about signing up online
for a Dining Plan.
|
Housing Office

The "MyUVa" book also includes
information about the various housing options for first-year
and transfer students at U.Va. All first-year students will
be required to complete the online "First-Year Housing
Application" to be included in the random assignment
process. Roommate assignments for first-year students will
be posted online.
Transfer students should fill out the "Transfer
Student Housing Application for 2006-07" found online
if they wish to be included in the selection process. The
Housing Office will do its best to provide spaces for all
transfer students.
For more information about the on-Grounds Housing application process, visit www.virginia.edu/housing/.

Office of the Dean of Students (Student Life)

The Office of the Dean of Students provides
support and programs that assist all students at the University.
The five different divisions of that office cover most areas
of student development: Student Life; Center for Alcohol and
Substance Education; Orientation and New Student Programs;
Fraternity and Sorority Life; and Newcomb Hall (Student Center).
If students have questions or concerns that should be addressed
but they are uncertain where to turn, they should begin at
the Office of the Dean of Students, which will assist the
students with their problems or refer them to the appropriate
University office.
|
Financial Aid/Student Financial Services

Student Financial Services covers financial aid issues and student accounts. Students and parents should not hesitate to contact Student Financial Services if they have any questions about any financial issues at the University (e.g. payment of tuition, financial aid awards, etc.). Representatives from Student Financial Services will be available to answer questions at Summer and Fall Orientation.
|
Student Health Services

The University of Virginia provides all students
with high quality, confidential health care at the Elson Student
Health Center. Because academic achievement and extracurricular
participation depend on good health, the Health Center's goals
are to help students maintain health through education and
prevention, and to restore health when necessary by treatment
of illness, injury, or stress.
