Welcome, new student! Now that you have received the MyUVa book, you will be able to activate your computing ID (see green box below). After you have activated your computing ID, you can use the checklist below to begin taking care of essential business items such as registering for Summer Orientation, applying for housing and signing up for a meal plan, among other things. We recommend that you print a copy of this page and check items off as you complete them. Now you are ready to get started!
During Summer Orientation, you will consult with a faculty member and Orientation Leaders to begin planning your academic career and making decisions about what classes to take in the fall semester. Each school has different information and requirements for this process, and you are advised to carefully read the information provided for new students on your school's Web site listed below.
You may also want to peruse the Course Offering Directory (COD) to identify courses that interest you or log on and familiarize yourself with the Integrated Student Information System (ISIS).
If you were accepted to the College of Arts and Sciences, you are required to complete a Student Information Form by the June 9 deadline. To complete the online Student Information Form, access the appropriate link (new or transfer) on the Web page above and review the information provided.
First-year students are required to live in University housing. To be included in the random assignment process, first-year students must complete and submit an application online no later than June 6, 2008. This is the only opportunity you will have to make roommate requests. Applications received after this date will be assigned wherever space is available.
First-year students requiring special accommodations for medical reasons need to submit their housing application and all supporting documentation by the June 6th deadline.
Transfer students are considered upperclass students and will be offered space in upperclass housing areas.

Nearly every U.Va. student utilizes a computer, and the Desktop Computing Initiative (DCI) from Cavalier Computers, located in the University Bookstore, sells laptops that meet or exceed University minimum standards, have essential software pre-installed, are ready to connect to the U.Va. network and come with a four-year hardware warranty. You may also bring a computer from home, but it must meet the minimum standards. You can also use the computers and printers available in the various public labs around Grounds.
To sign up for Cable TV and a Long Distance PIN, you must know your residence hall address, which will be posted online at 5 p.m. on July 3. Submit your cable TV and/or Long Distance PIN application by Aug. 3 to ensure activation by move-in on Saturday, August 23rd. Later submissions may delay activation.

(application deadline: July 24)
If you enjoy helping others and have some knowledge of computers, consider applying to be a Student Consultant (SC). To learn more or to apply, see www.itc.virginia.edu/employment. If you submit an application, follow the instructions to schedule yourself for an interview during Summer Orientation.

The University bus system provides service seven days a week with free transfers to Charlottesville Transit System (CTS) buses. CTS also runs a free trolley between Central Grounds and the city's downtown area.
Bike racks are available in front of almost every academic building, and the Charlottesville city buses even feature bike racks for those who want to bus and bike. Many roads in Charlottesville have bike lanes as well.
Upperclass students living in on-Grounds housing are eligible to purchase parking permits for areas associated with their residential areas. Students living off Grounds can purchase permits that will allow them to park in the Commuter parking areas located at the Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage and at University Hall.
