Khaosara Akapolawal email@example.com
Hey there, and welcome Class of 2018 and transfer students! I am beyond excited to have you all be apart of the great UVa community! My name is Khaosara Akapolawal, and I am a rising third year from Richmond, Virginia. RVA students, whadddup?! I am an American Government and African and African American Studies double major. It took me almost two years to figure out exactly what I wanted to study, so don’t fret if you’re still undecided about what you would like to major in! With time, by signing up for different classes and using many of the other resources UVa has to offer, you’ll be able to figure everything out just fine. Choosing UVa as your home for the next few years was a great decision for countless reasons, and I can’t wait for all you to experience all that it has to offer. Some of the organizations I’m involved in that helped to shape my wonderful experience so far include: The Organization of African Students, the Madison House Bridging The Gap volunteering program, Fashion For A Cause, The Black Student Alliance: Political Action Committee, so many others! Needless to say, there is definitely something for everyone on Grounds, and I’ll be happy to help you find your niche. I can’t wait to meet you all. WAHOOWA, and get ready to have a great time!
Elena Alba firstname.lastname@example.org
Hello, Class of 2018! Congratulations on taking your first steps toward what will truly be the best years of your life here at Mr. Jefferson’s University! My name is Elena Alba, and I am a rising 3rd year, double majoring in Religious Studies and American Studies (Yay for vague job prospects and studying what you love!) My time at this University, from the moment I set foot on Grounds, has been nothing short of incredible. I’ve been very involved in leadership in my Christian fellowship, Chi Alpha, and am a member of the UVA Outdoors Club, and a part-time staff member of The Cavalier Daily’s Copy Edit Staff. I love trying out the restaurants here in C-ville and running on the trails around Grounds (ask me about them!). In reality, there is no end to what you can experience here at UVA, and I encourage you all to try things you’re uncomfortable with and get excited to be challenged in ways you never expected! I’m so honored and pumped to get to meet all of you this summer! Get ready for the adventure of your lives, and feel free to e-mail me—GO HOOS!
Congratulations class of 2018 and transfer students and welcome to the best place on earth! My name is Carter Bakkum and I am a rising second year in the College of Arts and Sciences with a completely undecided major. I’m from Yorktown, Virginia where Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington, so you could say it is kind of a big deal. I am a member of the student-run radio station, WTJX, the University Guide Service, and the International Relations Organization. Being a guide, I know more about Thomas Jefferson and this university than most people would care to, but I love answering questions! In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with friends, pretending to understand most sports, play my cello, and play any pickup sport that is available (four square players hit me up). I cannot wait to meet all of you and introduce you to the wonderful experience that is college at the University of Virginia!
Britt Brown email@example.com
What’s up Class of 2018! My name is Britt Brown, and I am a rising 2nd year hoping to get into the Commerce or the Batten School. I’m from the Big Apple, New York City. I love reading, especially on the Lawn, hanging out with friends on the corner, and attending sporting events. I’m a goalie on the Women’s Lacrosse team, so I’m obviously a huge sports enthusiasts. Also, I’m apart of the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, BSA, and GSA. I’m super into discussions concerning politics and economics. On a brighter note for some, I love playing golf and Frisbee as well as cracking the worst jokes ever. If you ever need to find me, I’ll probably be on the Lawn lounging around. Email me with any questions! Get pumped for these next four years because they are going to be a blast!
Congratulations on making THE best decision of your life! Welcome to THE University of Virginia Class of 2018! I hope you guys are ready to come to grounds and hit the ground running for the best years of your life. My name is Nicole Burkhardt and I am a rising third year in the fabulous School of Nursing (aka Nurse Nicole). When I’m not in class (or watching Netflix) you’ll find me outside on the Lawn, trying a new local restaurant, or off on my next adventure. I am involved with Students Helping Honduras, Nursing Students Without Borders, intermural sports and various volunteer organizations. Over the past two years Charlottesville has quickly become my home away from home. Here at UVA you will find a club for literally anything you can imagine (or create one yourself), taking amazing courses with highly esteemed professors, create life long friendships, and get to experience the rich diversity and awesomeness which is college life. I advise you take advantage of everything possible and be open to trying new things as you head into the next chapter of your life. I am so excited to meet y’all this summer and help you see that you truly made the best decision of your life!
Welcome, Class of 2018 and transfer students! Congratulations on deciding to attend the University of Virginia. I’m Austin Chang, and I’m from Fairfax, Virginia. I am a rising second year who is leaning towards a major in economics, with a possible double major in international relations. I’m leaning towards a double major because there are simply too many awesome classes to take! You’ll also find that there are far too many things to do at the University. This place has crazy awesome intramural sports, at least 13 different a cappella groups, and a ridiculous amount of cultural, religious, and volunteer organizations. You won’t be able to survive the onslaught of activities. You’ll find me singing with my a cappella group, the Academical Village People, going for a run around grounds, or eating dumplings on The Corner. This place will become your home away from home, as it has mine. You’ll form incredible relationships, and discover things about yourself that you don’t even know about yet! This place will change you, if you let it. I am so excited to be your orientation leader for the summer! Please email me if you have any questions about life here at the University!
Welcome to the University of Virginia! My name is Daniel Chen and I am a rising second year studying biomedical engineering. I’m from Mechanicsville VA. When I’m not studying, I am heavily involved in the Asian-American community here on Grounds, most notably, Asian InterVarsity, the Asian Student Union, and other cultural organizations. I worked with the Admissions Office to put on EscAPAde 2014 (the Asian/Asian Pacific American prospective students day) and other cultural outreach activities, so if any of you recognize me don’t be afraid to call me out! And even if you don’t, I would still love to get to know you more. All I can say to you, incoming first-years, international students, and transfer students, is that you will find your adult-self in the next 120 credits you take, partake in endless social events, and most importantly, meet great people here on Grounds. I can’t wait to meet you all (i.e. future-littles)!
Charlie Deng firstname.lastname@example.org
Congratulations and Welcome to University of Virginia, Class of 2018, transfer, and exchange students! Attending UVA has been one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life and I believe it will be the same for every one of you! I am so excited to see how the world will unravel for you at UVA and I am greatly honored to be part of your first stop! My name is Charlie Deng (邓辰) and I am a rising third-year in the McIntire School of Commerce, potentially concentrating in Finance and Marketing. After living in Beijing, Tokyo, Vancouver, and Los Angeles, I am proud to be a resident of this beautiful town, Charlottesville. UVA offers all kinds of opportunities for everyone to get involved in this community. Outside of school, I am proudly serving as a Residential Advisor at Hereford Residential College and a rower on Virginia Men’s Rowing Team. I am also involved with the Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions, and I will try my best to help you! Again, congratulations and I am looking forward to meeting all of you!
Hi there, Class of 2018! I’m beyond excited to welcome you to one of the best places on Earth! My name is Sumedha and home for me is Virginia Beach, VA. As you may have gathered, I’m a generally overenthused rising second-year student in the College—still majorly undeclared. I like to stay busy on Grounds with being a part of a dance team, serving on the University Judiciary Council, writing for the Cavalier Daily, and partaking in Sustained Dialogue. I also love being a part of Pi Phi and I’m super stoked to be an RA next year, so we may be living in close quarters! When I have free time (haha) I pass my time watching stand-up on YouTube and having absurd conversations with my friends. I can honestly say I’ve loved every minute of my UVa journey thus far and I can’t wait to help you embark on yours! GO HOOS!
What is up my people!! I'm so excited to meet all of you Transfer Students and the incoming Class of 2018!! You are about to embark on the greatest four year journey of your life and it all starts here, with me and all the other Orientation Leaders, at your summer orientation. "Who are you?" you might ask. Well, I'm Nick Dima, a rising Fourth Year all the way from Miami, Florida. I'm majoring in Chemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences. Being an Orientation Leader isn't the only thing I do-- during the school year I'm a full-time Salsa Dancer (WOOO JOIN SALSA CLUB), Resident Adviser (JOIN RES-LIFE TOO, JOIN ALL THE THINGS), and fitness guru. I love meeting new people and experience new things, it has actually been a goal of mine all throughout college do one new thing a month. If there's one piece of advice I could give you it would be this: Put yourself out there, try new things, and get as far away from your comfort zone as possible. WAHOOWA!
Ben DiNapoli email@example.com
What’s up Class of 2018 and transfers! Coming to the University of Virginia has been one of the best choices I’ve made so far, and I can’t wait to show everyone around Grounds. My name is Ben DiNapoli and I am a rising 2nd-year, studying Architecture and Architectural History. Harrisonburg, Virginia is home for me, although Charlottesville is quickly becoming a close second. Outside of class, I am involved with my fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, OpenGrounds, the University Guide Service, the Visual Arts Art Board and anything else I can get my hands on. I love IM sports although I am consistently the worst player, but that hasn’t stopped me yet. I also love good music and food (so everything on the Downtown mall), playing Frisbee on the Lawn, camping out in the basement of Clark Library, and Finals Week. Wait…what? I can’t wait to hang out and meet everyone this summer, and welcome to the Wahoo family!
Matt Doyle firstname.lastname@example.org
Class of 2018 and transfer students, welcome to UVA! My name is Matt Doyle, and I’m a rising third year double-majoring in classics and commerce. I’m from the great state of Massachusetts, so I am of course always down to talk Red Sox/The Departed/clam chowder. Outside of classes, I’m involved in the Virginia Glee Club, my improv group The Whethermen, and my fraternity. One thing you should know about me is that I am a walker; I walk everywhere, even when I don’t have to. When you live in a place as beautiful and scenic as TJ’s hallowed Grounds, why take the bus? You may have already heard it, but it bears repeating: You’re going to absolutely love going here. At UVA, there is more to do than anyone could ever do in four years, and more incredible people than anyone could ever meet. So get out there, get involved, make new friends, and try completely new things. If you do all that, there’s no reason you won’t love UVA as much as I do. WAHOOWA!
Welcome to the Class of 2018 and transfer students! I hope you’re all as excited to be at UVA as we are to have you here with us. My name is Brad Fagan, and I’m a rising third year student studying Chemical Engineering here at UVA. I hail from the great white north of New Hampshire, so coming down to Charlottesville has been a bit of a change for me. I’ve had an absolute blast my first two years in C-ville. Back home, I love to play basketball, ping-pong, and go skiing. On Grounds, I’ve gotten involved by giving tours with the University Guide Service, as well as being a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. You’ll often find me on the hill at football games in the fall, sitting in the stands of JPJ during basketball season, or even in the AFC playing a little basketball myself. I’m very excited to meet all of you this summer, and I’m sure you’ll have a blast here at UVA. Go Hoos!
Taylor Fisher email@example.com
Welcome Class of 2018 and transfer students! Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Virginia. I hope you’re all ready for the experience of a lifetime! My name is Taylor Fisher and I’m a rising Second Year in the College of Arts and Sciences from Williamsburg, Virginia. Like many of you, I’m undecided on my major. However, let me assure you, you will have plenty of time and opportunities here at U.Va. to discover what you really enjoy both in and out of the classroom. I myself am a proud member of the Cavalier Marching Band, the HOOps Basketball Band, and I also enjoy volunteering for different projects through Madison House, an organization for student volunteers here on Grounds. I can’t wait to help you make the most of your time here! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions whatsoever about Summer Orientation or anything around Grounds. I’m looking forward to getting to know each of you during Orientation and your time here at the University. Wahoowa!
Class of 2018 and transfer students- welcome to THE University! Are you excited, because I know I am! My name is Clara Gainey and I am a rising second year in the College, looking to major in Foreign Affairs and maybe Religious Studies as well. I am half American, half German, and my family is currently living in Vienna, VA- but I have grown up mostly overseas in Europe and Asia (feel free to ask me for the longer version of that when we meet)! I am involved in Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, Kappa Delta Sorority, Club Swim, and I volunteer with Madison House as a swim coach! Otherwise you’ll usually find me running around grounds (literally and figuratively), “working hard” in Clark Library, or getting Starbucks and a Bodo’s bagel on the Corner. I am so excited for you all to start the BEST years of your life here at U.Va. – there is something for each and every one of you here! Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with questions, concerns, or ANYTHING else! I would love to hear from you all and can’t wait to meet you!
Howdy class of 2018 and welcome to the University of Virginia! I’m excited to meet you all and see what this year has in store. My name is Ben Genda and I’m a rising third year from Berryville, VA. I’m majoring in Civil Engineering and hope to be a pilot for the Air Force after I graduate. I work at Alumni Hall and am a resident advisor in first-year dorms. I am also involved in variety of groups here on Grounds including Air Force ROTC, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, and my fraternity. You all are going to rock it this year! U.Va is a place that will stretch you socially, academically and culturally so you are probably both excited and nervous. You are going to make great memories here so get pumped! Again, welcome to Mr. Jefferson’s University and I can’t wait to share orientation adventures with you this summer!
Congrats class of 2018 and transfers students, I am so excited to welcome you all to the UVA family! Seriously, get ready for an amazing experience where you’ll make friends and memories of a lifetime. My name is Kezia Gibbs (though I also go by Z) from Queens, NY and I am a rising fourth year in the College of Arts and Science majoring in English. When I’m not studying and doing work at the library, you can see me giving tours around grounds as a member of the University Guide Service. Apart from giving tours, I love being active in the Charlottesville community which is why I am also involved in Madison House’s Adopt A grandparent and the UVA Arts Mentors program. Plus, I keep myself busy with all things fashion design, (so be on the lookout for my fashion line in a few years) and attending games with friends. Once again, welcome and congrats on becoming a WAHOO! If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to email me. I can’t wait to meet you all this summer, but in the mean time get super pumped for these next few years!
Welcome Class of 2018 and transfer students to the University of Virginia! You are about to embark on a journey that you will never forget, so get excited! I am Janell Green from Suffolk, Virginia (shout out to the 757 area) and I am a rising fourth year student in the awesome School of Nursing. In the past three years, I have been involved with Madison House daycare program, Day in the Life tutoring program, Black Voices Gospel choir, and Navy ROTC. My hobbies include singing and shopping. Here at the University you will also join a wide range of clubs and activities and participate in activities that are suitable for you. I advise you to embrace the college life and get out of your comfort zone to try new things. You never know what opportunities may come in the future and you should always be open to prospective endeavors. I recommend that you meet new people and get involved as much as you can. Last but not least, be optimistic and have a positive attitude because not everything you experience may be as you envisioned. I am overly excited to meet you and I am glad you chose to be a part of the UVA family. I hope that your transition to UVA and the rest of your four years at UVA will be worthwhile and enjoyable. WAHOOWA!
Pete Hanner email@example.com
Hello future Wahoos, Class of 2018 and transfers alike! My name is Pete Hanner, and I’m a rising third year studying Government and hailing from the glorious city of Greensboro, North Carolina. I transferred to UVa as a second year from UNC-Chapel Hill and have loved every minute of it! Music is my passion– I play tuba in the Cavalier Marching Band, saxophone in one of our Jazz Combos, and am a member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. I also love playing and watching sports (even if I’m better at the second one). I’m a Chaser and captain on the Quidditch team (which is totally a real sport), and of course I always support our reigning ACC champs basketball team and reigning You-Tried-Your-Hardest champs football team. I’m also in Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship and part of a book club/charity. So obviously there’s a TON to do here, and I can’t wait to meet you and help you jump in! Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. These are about to be the greatest four years of your life, so strap in. Welcome home and WAHOOWA!
Welcome to the Uva family transfer students and Class of 2018! I am so incredibly excited to meet all of you and see the tremendous contributions you will make to our lovely university. I am a rising third year from southern Virginia majoring in History and Anthropology with a minor in African Studies. When I am not getting lost in the depths of my second home, Alderman Library, I volunteer with the daycare program at Madison House, write for the Cavalier Daily, DJ for WTJX, plan events through University Programs Council, serve on the Sexual Misconduct Board, and give tours with the University Guides Service. But academics comes first, right? Well, most of the time. Come talk to me about food, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Africa, history, and everything sports, especially if you are a Washington fan. Also, tell me bad jokes because I'll definitely laugh. I am so very excited and I hope you are too, that you chose the Good Ole Orange and Blue. A huge Wahoo welcome to all of you!
Hello Hellooo and welcome to the University! I know you’re super pumped about being a part of the Wahoo Fam and we’re honored to have you. I’m Joy Jefferson, a proud representative of “The 4” [aka Richmond], and a rising 2nd year. I hope to major in Accounting upon acceptance into the McIntire School of Commerce. One of the best decisions I’ve made at this University is joining the Women’s Club Rugby Team. I absolutely love it! My teammates are my closest friends and we literally act like a big family [minus the arguing]. I had no idea I would be playing rugby but that’s the beauty about college; there’s so many opportunities to be involved and explore your interests to figure out what you’re passionate about. When I’m not on the pitch [rugby field] you can find me hanging out with friends, or at some University sporting event. I’m a huge fan of all UVA sports. Hopefully we can catch a game together and cheer on our fellow Wahoos! Can’t wait to meet you and I hope you discover the JOY in going to this wonderful University. #WAHOONATION
Oh hey Class of 2018 and transfer students! Welcome to the B-E-A-UTIFUL city of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia! My name is Kyle Johnson and I’m a rising Third Year in the College of Arts & Sciences, double majoring in Cognitive Science & Linguistics, with a concentration in Cognitive Psychology. I’m from the sandy and wavy Virginia Beach, VA; home of the East Coast Surfing Championships and several long-protected beaches. While I can’t work on my tan or enjoy a Slurpee on the beach, UVA has afforded me with many of opportunities, both academically and socially. So far, I’ve dedicated myself to my service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, Project SERVE, First Year Players, and the Linguistics Club. When I’m not doing service in the community or stuck studying in ClubClem, you can find me enjoying an afternoon on the Lawn with friends or eating dumplings in the Amphitheater on a sunny day! BUT that’s enough about me! I want to hear all about each and every one of YOU! I am so glad that you chose UVA to make your home for the next four years. Fasten your seatbelts because this rollercoaster has so much in store for you! WAHOOWA!

I am from Winter Park, FL! It's right outside of Orlando, and no, I did not go to Disney World every day... On Grounds I am involved in giving tours through the University Guide Service, planning fun events for First Year Council and the University Programs Council, and a member of my sorority, Delta Gamma. You'll usually find me lounging on the Lawn or spending way too much time in Newcomb or frantically studying for a test in the stacks of Clark Library. I recently finished all of House of Cards (!!!), and now looking to sustain my social life. Most nights you can find me at Qdoba on the Corner, I just can't resist the chips and queso. But other than that, you can find me goofing around with friends, dancing badly to Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and African music, singing AND Azonto-ing (check it out on Youtube). My name is Scott Mallory, and I am a rising third year from Richmond, Virginia (RVA all the way!). Welcome class of 2018 and transfer students to the University of Virginia! After a last minute transfer from the A-School to the College, I plan on studying biology with a minor in architecture and history of architecture. I have participated in Relay for Life here at UVA for the past two years as the proud team leader of the Cute Cupcakes. I work at the Athletic Ticket Office and am a huge fan of Virginia Sports - Go Hoos! My main hobbies include binge watching TV series on Netflix, crocheting and snowboarding. I look forward not only to welcoming you to UVA and guiding you through your first days here, but also to getting you excited about our wonderful school!

I’m incredibly excited to meet all of you and I hope you realize you’ve made a fantastic decision coming to a University filled with a ridiculous amount of opportunity. A few of the activities I’m involved with include groups like the Asian Student Union, the University Guide Service, and a sexual assault peer advocacy group, 1 in 4. If you ever need somebody to play basketball, explore Charlottesville, or just hang out and enjoy the lawn – I’m your guy. If you ever have any questions, just let me know! I hope to see all of you soon.
Congratulations Wahoos and welcome! My name is Ana. I'm a rising 3rd year from Fairfax, VA, studying Psychology and Communication Disorders. I enjoy paling around with the brothers of Phi Sigma Pi honor fraternity and the crazy theater kids of First Year Players. You may also find me around grounds trying to sell you bread with Challah for Hunger. Shout-out to my mom for knowing me better than I knew myself and encouraging me to apply to UVa at a time where I thought it wasn't the school for me. After stepping foot on grounds, I soon fell in love with the atmosphere and opportunities here. I can't wait for you to experience that journey for yourself of making Mr. Jefferson's University your own.
Welcome Wahoos! Get ready for four fun years of wonderful traditions and incredible friends at Good ole Virginia! My name is Ashley Munoz, and I am a rising third year (ahh!) in the School of Nursing minoring in Bioethics. Originally from Austin, Texas, the UVA community has become home sweet home filled with adventure and opportunity. I absolutely love it here and can not wait for you to join our family! On Grounds, I have been involved in a variety of organizations but am now currently focused on the University Judiciary Committee, Honor Committee, Nursing Class Council, Days on the Lawn Team, Hispanic/ Latino Peer Mentoring Program and the Catholic Student Ministry. You can usually find zipping around on my red Vespa, in the gym teaching cycle classes or taking naps on the Lawn. Feel free to email me about anything! Congratulations Class of 2018 and I am so excited to meet y'all! Go Hoos!!
Congratulations Class of 2018 and transfer students! You have officially made the best decision of your life by coming to UVa, and it is my pleasure to welcome you. UVa is my favorite place in the world, and I cannot wait to share it with y'all. My name is Reade Paterno, and I'm a rising third-year in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but by no means am I a Tar Heel (had to cut all ties... go Hoos!). Around Grounds, I'm involved with the University Guide Service, the Honor System, and my fraternity Phi Gamma Delta. I love everything outdoors, so if fishing, hiking, or just tossing a frisbee around is your thing, then you have definitely come to the right place. You'll almost always find me outside around Grounds when the weather is nice, even in the ridiculous Charlottesville humidity. I can't wait to get to know y'all, and again, congrats on making the best decision of your life!
Hello, congratulations and welcome new best friends! 2018 has a great ring to it, right? And for all the transfer students, welcome to the other best classes in the history of all institutions ever in the world. My name is Tom Pilnik, and I am so proud to call Charlottesville my home away from home. My family is originally from Brazil, and I have spent my whole life in London, England. I am a rising 3rd year and a double major in Studio Art and Cognitive Science. However, as much as I love classes, I have found my real place at UVA as a member of Phi Delta Theta, The University Guides Service and University Programs Council. Planning events is my thing; so hit me up if you want to make a wild idea come true! I am so, so excited to meet y’all (I’m becoming American), and I am even more thrilled to be welcoming you to this incredible institution. Once again, welcome to UVA and feel free to shoot me an email if you need anything. Good times, go ‘Hoos!
Hey Y'all! Firstly, Class of 2018 and transfer students, congratulations on your admission into the University of Virginia. You earned it!Secondly, welcome to UVa, Thomas Jefferson's University, Wahoo Nation or even Hoosville! Regardless of what you want to call this magical place, I can promise that you will have some of your best years here! As for myself, my name is Amy Pressey. I am from Williamsburg, Virginia (shout out to the 757 area), but Charlottesville is just as homey. I am a rising second-year in the College of Arts and Sciences. Presently, I am majoring in Biochemistry with a double minor in Bioethics and Anthropology (or so I think). Because I have so many varying interests, my First Year experience can be described along the lines of being an "organization junkie." With numerous CIOs and clubs, I have volunteered, advocated, debated, lead, crafted, danced, worshiped and played club and intermural sports. I will not bore you with the seemingly endless list of activities that compose my life, but please make sure that you do find me so that we can talk about all of the wonderful opportunities that are available to you here. When I have free time, you can find me sleeping, studying, in the gym or binge-watching Netflix. My zodiac sign is Leo, I like long walks on the beach, and puppies, not dogs, are my favorite animals. Now that you know a little about me, I cannot wait to meet and learn so much about you! Feel free to e-mail me about absolutely any and everything. And again, congratulations! Take pride in the fact that out of all of the thousands of applicants who applied to the University of Virginia this year, you were among the few who were offered admission. You are all literally the best! WAHOOWA!
Hey class of 2018 and transfer students, welcome to your new home! My name is Kristian Robinson and I am a rising Fourth Year from Alexandria, VA in the College of Arts and Science double majoring in Environmental Science and Biology. Outside of the classroom and research lab, I am a member of Alpha Phi Omega, a co-ed service fraternity, as well as being one of the many people who helped to put together the Days on the Lawn Program for you guys. This past semester, I have been training as a probationary member of the University Guide Service and can’t wait to give tours around grounds. But that’s enough about me; you are about to embark on the most fun and memorable journey of your life and orientation is only the first step. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me. I am so excited to meet you all this summer and see you around grounds, so get ready and GO HOOS!
Welcome to UVa! My name is Lindsey Rosenthal and I’m so excited to be among the first to welcome and introduce you to the beautiful and dynamic university I call home. I’m a rising third year from Richmond, and I’ve declared a linguistics major but I’m also pursuing French and studio art. Course work aside, I devote my time to event planning for University Programs Council, chatting with prospective students as a volunteer with Virginia Ambassadors, partaking in local arts events, playing intramural soccer, and attending the fantastic seminars, shows, and concerts UVa and Charlottesville have to offer. I’d love to chat and get to know you or answer any questions you might have, and please feel free to reach out to me at any time throughout the school year, if only just to say hi! Again, welcome, and wahoowa!
Namaste, ni hao, and welcome to UVA! My name is Tara and I'm a rising third year majoring in Foreign Affairs. I've lived in India, China and Singapore before moving to Charlottesville, so I'm not sure if I can tell you where "home" is. When I'm not tackling girls and on Madbowl with the Virginia Women's Rugby team, you can find me promoting mental health and wellness with Active Minds, chatting up a storm with my Sustained Dialogue group, or volunteering as an ESOL tutor through Madison House. I'm also an active member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. I'm a huge TV and movie buff (Game of Thrones, anyone?) and I live in the stranger parts of the internet (namely reddit). Please don't hesitate to contact me about any of my activities, or even if you just want to chat. Get pumped to navigate your way through our beautiful Grounds, deck out in orange and navy blue (HOW 'BOUT THEM HOOS?), and meet the most wonderful people in the world. Class of 2018 and transfer students, I'm so excited to meet you all!
Welcome and Wahoowa Class of 2018 and transfer students! My name is Osama Saleem and I’m a rising Second Year looking to study Economics and Commerce. I’m originally from Lorton, Virginia but have since found a second home in the beautiful city of Charlottesville. I’m involved in a bunch of things on Grounds like Student Council, Class Council, and a Madison House volunteer program known as Cavs in the Classroom. There’s so much to do on campus Grounds that it might seem overwhelming at first (and it is) but just like me, I’m sure each of you will find his or her place and make the most out of what are going to be the best 4 years of your life! Let me know if you have any questions and get ready for an incredible college experience! WAHOOWA!
Hello Class of 2018 and transfer students! Welcome to Mr. Jefferson’s incredible University. My name is Nicole Schneiter and I’m a rising 3rd year from Orlando, Florida. Although I love the sun and heat, Charlottesville has definitely become my second snowy home and I’m sure it’ll become yours as well over the next few years! Around grounds, you may catch me in first-year areas quite a bit since I’ll be an RA for some of you. I’m also super passionate about sustainability so don’t be surprised if you catch me digging through trash for a waste audit or promoting composting at dining locations! In addition to sustainability-related CIOs, I’m also a part of Delta Zeta Sorority, the Monroe Society, and SEED. There are so many great and interesting opportunities to be involved in on Grounds and even more in the wider Charlottesville community, so take advantage of all that these next few years have to offer! And please feel free to ask me any questions you have because I always appreciate a nice chat. Congratulations, you’re officially a Wahoo!!
Hey Class of 2018! You’re headed towards four of the most amazing years of your lives. I am so excited to meet you guys and show you all of the reasons I’m obsessed with UVA. My name is Molloy Sheehan and I’m a rising 4th year from Manhasset, New York. I’m a Kinesiology major with a minor in Global Culture and Commerce. I’m on the Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboard Team (Yes! There is snow in Virginia). Everyone jokes about how I started doing snowboard competitions when I moved south. It just goes to show how many incredible and unexpected opportunities there are here. When I’m not studying or on the slopes, you can usually find me teaching classes at the AFC, volunteering with Musicians on Call, or enjoying the outdoors in Charlottesville. I could talk about UVA all day, so please don’t hesitate to come talk to me. I can’t wait to meet you all! GO HOOS!
Hello Class of 2018 and Transfer Students, and welcome to Mr. Jefferson’s University! I’m Leslie Smith, a rising Third Year in the College of Arts and Sciences, from Richmond, Virginia. I am beyond excited to be among the first to introduce you to the University of Virginia; get ready for the greatest years of your life in this little slice of heaven we call Charlottesville. I’m a transfer student, and coming to this school was the best decision I ever made. When I’m not in class, you can find me reading 19th century poems and prose (#EnglishMajor) on the Lawn, grabbing Bodo’s on the Corner, or playing volleyball with the club team in Mem Gym. I am also involved in Catholic Campus Ministries and attend every athletic event I possibly can. That being said, talk to me if you love sports—I have an unhealthy affinity for the Yankees and all things UVA. My other hobbies include binge watching TV shows on Netflix and spending an exorbitant amount of time on Pinterest. But enough about me, I cannot wait to meet all of you and sing the Good Ole’ Song together; congratulations and welcome to UVA!
Class of 2018 and freshly converted transfer students! You’re making me blush by reading my bio! My name is Alex Stock and I’m a rising Third Year fresh off the boat from Toronto, Canada, eh? Congratulations not only on getting into UVa, but on making the bang up decision to come here! I'm still trying to get into the comm school, so fingers crossed and textbooks open. When I’m not swiping you into the gym or advising residents, I’m working out (just kidding) or more likely stuffing my face. I’ve gone up three pant sizes since I've come to UVa – don’t take me for a role model when we’re at the dining hall. The Freshman 15 (or 40) is real y’all! If you’ve had the unbridled pleasure of being assigned to Echols or Humphreys for next year, you could have me as your resident advisor, but if not, I’ll forgive you. Either way, you’re going to have a great time here and I’m so excited to meet as many of you as I can this summer at Orientation! It’s going to be a grand ole time!
Welcome to UVA class of 2018 and transfers! We are so excited to have you on Grounds, aka the best place on earth. My name is Elizabeth Surratt and I’m a rising 2nd year in the College. I hail from sunny Jacksonville, Florida, so I am well versed in both long road trips and the Charlottesville airport. I am currently undecided on my major, but not for lack of options. I’m considering Global Development Studies, Environment and Sustainability, French, and Global Studies in Education, among other things. Basically just no math. When I’m not in class or studying in Nau (best building on Grounds), I like to keep myself pretty busy. I’m involved in Alethia Christian fellowship, International Justice Mission, University Programs Council, and I will be on 2nd Year Council. When I have a free moment or two, I love to run, go to concerts, read C.S. Lewis in my Eno, or explore the Saturday morning farmer’s market. I consume absurd amounts of tea, peanut butter, and chocolate. If you want suggestions on coffee shops, good hikes, or delicious restaurants, come find me! Congratulations and get excited for the next 4 years!
Welcome Class of 2018 and transfer students! My name is Kerry Underhill and I am a rising third year from Fairfield, Connecticut. Though I’m an out of state student, UVA is a big part of my family and I have been walking the Lawn, singing the Good Ole’ Song, and indulging in Littlejohn's sandwiches for as long as I can remember. UVA has been a second home for me for my entire life—and I can’t wait to help make it yours as well. Though I have not declared a major yet (scary, I know), I am planning on majoring in Media Studies with a minor in Global Culture and Commerce. Here at UVA, I am a member of the TriDelta chapter, a volunteer for Camp Kesem, and a member of the production team for the Cavalier Daily. In my free time, I like to read, paint, play the ukulele, and hang out with friends. If you have any questions at all please feel free to reach out because I would love to talk! Can’t wait to meet you all! Get ready for some of the best years of your life.
Waddup new Hoos! Congrats and welcome to UVa! You all have made an awesome decision and deserve to be pumped. My name is Gianfranco Villar and I’m a rising 4th year studying Anthropology and Economics. I’m half-Bolivian, half-Peruvian, and come from Sarasota, FL, which means I’ve been surrounded by good food, great beaches, and old people my whole life. Here at the University I’m involved with the Latino Student Alliance, One in Four (a peer-education organization the focuses on sexual assault awareness), and event services at Newcomb Hall. When I’m not keeping myself busy with anything mentioned above, I spend my time playing soccer, climbing trees, and trying out new hobbies. If you have any questions about anything HIT ME UP with an email! I’d be glad to help you out. This place is great. Y’all are great. Get ready for some good times.
Hey y’all! Congratulations Class of 2018 and transfer students! I’m so excited to welcome you to THE University of Virginia. You’re about to embark on the best years of your lives! I am Jesseca White, a rising third year in the School of Nursing. I am from THE heart of the state, Farmville, VA. However, UVA is my home away from home, and I love it! I am involved in Black Voices Gospel Choir, Student Nurse Association of Virginia, Virginia Nursing Students' Association, and Multiculturalism in Nursing Today. Here at UVA, you have the opportunity to get involved in some great organizations, take exciting courses, and partake in diverse experiences. With the support and company of your fellow Wahoos, you’ll find that there’s an outlet that satisfies nearly any creative avenue you can think of. I’m excited to meet everyone at orientation and even more excited to get you all started on the best journey of your lives. If you have any questions, concerns, or just want to chat, feel free to shoot me an email; I’d love to talk! See you soon and remember to “Keep Calm and WAHOOWA!” Again, congratulations, and welcome to our family!
Welcome home class of 2018 and transfer students!! I am so excited that you have chosen to become a part of the Wahoo family! My name is Nicole Winfree and I am rising fourth year from Alexandria, Virginia. (Yep, I'm a NOVA kid!) I'm majoring in Foreign Affairs and minoring in Religious Studies, and while I only have one year left here at UVA, I couldn't be more excited. One of the things that I love the most about UVA is all of the various opportunities to get involved that are available. I am involved in various organizations arounds Grounds like the Organization of Young Filipino Americans (OYFA) and the University Guide Service. In my free time I love to watch TV or read a good book or eat, which is something that Charlottesville is great for! I can’t wait to meet all of you this summer and share my love for Mr. Jefferson’s University with you. If you ever have any questions, worries, or concerns, please send me an email and I’d be glad to help you in anyway that I can! So once again, WELCOME HOME and I hope that you will end up loving UVA as much as I do!

Congratulations and Welcome to the one and only University of Virginia, incoming and transfer students. I hope you are excited for your first taste of college life on Grounds. The next 4 years are going to be the best of your lives. Ciao! Mi chiamo Donatello Romano! Piacere! I am a rising third year in the College of Arts and Sciences with ambitions of majoring in Sociology and Italian. I hail from the windy city of Chicago, Illinois. Although I grew accustomed to the big city life, I soon fell in love with the small town of Charlottesville (C'ville) that I now call home. Hopefully, when you arrive on Grounds and see the bright stars in the night sky, you enjoy that same amazement that I felt. Outside of classes, I am a student equipment manager for the Varsity Football team. Whenever I am not working, I am either in the AFC, in Clemons library or chilling with friends. I am very outgoing and love meeting new people, so don't be shy to come say Hi. (oo that rhyme!) Again, Welcome to UVA and WAHOOWA! #Hoos!!
Hey Class of 2018 and transfer students! What time is it? If you answered, “Adventure Time,” you are most correct! Welcome to UVA where adventure runs abound! My name is Whitney Wu and I’m a rising third year from far away Vienna, VA. I’ll be majoring in Studio Art and earning a Masters in Elementary Education from the Curry School. On grounds I’m involved in the Asian Student Union (ASU), Peer Advising Family Network (PAFN), and tutoring at Johnson Elementary School. When I’m not sculpting in Ruffin Hall, you’ll find me getting dumplings on the Corner or catching up on reading and TV shows in Alderman Library. Word up and email me at email@example.com if you have any questions or just want to talk! I’m so excited to meet you!
