Chelsea Barry

Chelsea Barry

Welcome Class of 2017! I am so unbelievably excited to welcome you into the Wahoo family! Here you will find a place of academics, fond memories to last a lifetime, and a home away from home. I cannot wait for you to begin this amazing journey and I am so honored to get to be a part of it! I’m Chelsea Barry, I’m a rising 4th year, sadly, and I am a Communication Disorders major in the Curry School of Education. Charlottesville has opened so many doors for me and given me the great opportunity to get involved in so many wonderful activities in the community and around grounds. Over the past three years I have gotten a chance to volunteer through the Madison house, get involved with fundraisers such as Dance Marathon and Up Til Dawn, and serve as the President of my sorority. When I’m not in class, participating in extra-curricular activities, or working my part time job (a girls gotta eat) you’ll find me hanging out and having a few good laughs with my friends.  Over the next four years I hope that ya’ll take advantage of the amazing opportunities this historic and beautiful city has to offer you! I cannot wait to meet you all and watch you make UVA your home away from home too!

Ebob Besong

Ebob Besong

My name is Ebob Besong and Charlottesville, VA is my 5th home, after having lived in London, Cameroon, Uganda, and Connecticut. Class of 2017 and transfer students, congratulations and welcome to Mr. Jefferson’s University! I am a rising second year, and I will be double majoring in French, and Leadership and Public Policy from the Batten School. As soon as I arrived on grounds, I immersed myself in the countless opportunities that UVA has to offer. I stood as a judge on the First Year Judiciary Committee and as president of my association council, I worked with a group of fellow first years to plan dorm activities. I also joined Jubilate, one of the many singing groups here on grounds. I attended boarding school and I am an international student 3,810 miles, and 5 time zones away from home… Yet I have never felt more at home. Absolutely e-mail me if you have any questions at all about moving in and settling down. Once again, congratulations, and get ready to embark on a new adventure. WAHOOWA!

Vishwa Bhuta

Vishwa Bhuta

Oh hey Class of 2017 and transfer students! Hello and WELCOME to the University of Virginia! I am SO excited to help you as you get ready to start your awesome and unique journeys. I’m Vishwa Bhuta; I’m a rising third year from the magical land called Singapore. I am double majoring in Commerce and Psychology. Around Grounds you will find me singing with my a cappella group, the New Dominions, or hanging out at Madison House. I may also see a lot of you around dorms, where I will be a Senior Resident (SR) this coming year. In my free time, I like to read, paint, hang out, and most importantly, EAT. I am a foodie at heart, and my goal in college is to try as many of the fantastic eateries in Charlottesville as I can. If you have any questions about anything (seriously), PLEASE feel free to reach out! And take it from someone who is from far away, you have arrived at a place that will embed itself in your heart, become your home and your family, and will give you enough memories to last a lifetime if you give it a chance. WAHOOWA!

Melissa Boice

Melissa Boice

Class of 2017 and Transfer Students, welcome to my man TJ’s humble abode (and yours as well!) UVA is a gem—I know all of you will find your place here and make memories of a lifetime. My name is Melissa Boice and I’m a rising Third Year majoring in Media Studies or American Studies.  Fun fact: at the beginning of the Spring 2013 semester, I transferred from Wake Forest University. Coming to UVA midyear was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, but I couldn’t be more delighted with my time here. I’ve spent most of my life in Texas (cuz everything is bigger and better), but C-Ville is a fantastic college town with so much to do. You won’t be bored, I promise. Outside the classroom, I continue my passion for dance and theatre with First Year Players. I’m also involved with Virginia Dance Company, Third Year Council, and Delta Zeta.  When I’m not doing that, you can usually find me with multiple plates at Newcomb, speaking in various accents, attending concerts downtown, and socializing around Grounds. I cannot wait to get to know you guys this summer. Please feel free to shoot me an email with any questions or concerns that you have. Get ready little Cavaliers, you’re gonna love it here!

I’m involved in Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, Kappa Delta Sorority, Nursing Students Without Borders, and Project SERVE! UVA has so many things to offer, both on and off-Grounds and your time here is going to fly by! I’m so excited for you to be a part of our UVA community and I can’t wait for you to make lasting memories singing the Good Old Song, enjoying Lighting of the Lawn, and going to some amazing a cappella concerts! Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or if you just want to chat! Congratulations again, and welcome to your new home! WAHOOWA!

I’m a rising second year from Southern Virginia HOOs excited to meet you! I’m currently undecided but I’m leaning towards anything that doesn’t involve math. When I’m not studying away in the McGregor room, I love volunteering with Daycare through Madison House, recording a radio show through WUVA, convincing people to come here through Monroe Society, and discussing brewing social issues though Global Development Organization. I also love spending time with my friends, going to concerts on the Downtown Mall, watching far too much Around the Horn, and cheering on my Redskins, Capitals, D.C United, Wizards, Yankees (don’t hate me for it), and, of course, our Wahoos. Talk to me if you love American history, sports, Africa, Southern Virginia, or if you have any questions at all! Get excited for the Good Ole UVA and I’ll see you around Grounds!

I’m majoring in architecture and minoring in history, so as you can probably guess I’m pretty into TJ and the academical (not a real word) village. When I’m not studying, I love giving tours through the University Guide Service, getting involved with my sorority, Kappa Delta, eating Chipotle (which needs to move on the corner), watching our sports teams dominate, and spending afternoons on the lawn. I also love getting out and exploring Charlottesville, whether it’s hiking Humpback, seeing a concert on the downtown mall or eating really, really good food. (Cville has over 400 restaurants!) Congratulations on choosing this amazing university as your home and get ready for the best four years of your life – college begins here!

Julia Horowitz

Julia Horowitz

A big, excited HEY to all you new Wahoos — I’m so glad you’re here with us! It took all I had not to run up to you all during your tours and gush about how you’re about to start the ride of your life. That’s right, “you all” and not “y’all.” I’m from northern Virginia, and, despite the southern charms of Mr. Jefferson’s University, I know my place. LUCKILY, even though I’m from fake Virginia, my place has turned out to be right here. I’m a rising second year in the College of Arts & Sciences, hoping to major in Foreign Affairs and perhaps English. I’m also Life Editor for the Cavalier Daily, a newly initiated member of Sigma Kappa sorority, a UJC counselor and a Madison House volunteer. I’d sleep, but there are too many C-ville adventures to be had. Long story short, I can’t wait to help you all find yours!! Find me, we’ll chat.

I know the countless number of majors, clubs, and activities at UVA can seem overwhelming—I was in your shoes not too long ago. My only advice in navigating the freedom and opportunities of the University is to find your passions and pursue them. And most importantly, don’t forget to save time to watch the stars from the Rotunda steps or play Frisbee on the Lawn! GO HOOS!

Yoo, What’s up Class of 2017! Welcome to UVa! My name is John Mathew, a rising 2nd year studying Economics and Politics in your future home. When I’m not straight up ballin’ like the New Yorker I am, I’m usually making corny jokes or eating, always eating. If you’re wondering what type of person loves throwing a Frisbee on the lawn or enjoys jammin’ to some Hoodie Allen/Coldplay mashup. That’s all me. Anyways, I’m involved with Judiciary Committee, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, Student Council, and Orchestra on grounds along with a bunch of others. ¡Bienvenidos a la Universidad! Outside of classes and clubs, you can find me goofing around on intramural sports teams (generally wearing a ridiculous uniform), trying out new recipes (don’t be fooled, many of these fail), and finding a new Charlottesville “hole in the wall” to sneak open a new book! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me! Peace!

You’ll find opportunities to grow in the most cool and unexpected ways. And you’ll never miss a chance to score free food.  Welcome, we’re so lucky to have you!

Emily Richards

What’s up Class of 2017 and transfer students! I’m so excited to welcome you to UVa; get ready for an amazing four years! My name is Emily Richards, and I’m a rising third year majoring in Architecture (ask me if you need to get to hidden Campbell Hall) and minoring in History. My killer hometown, Cleveland Ohio, has also never had a bigger or more outspoken advocate: Area Code 216!! When I’m not elbow deep in basswood and plexiglass, you can often find me talking to prospective families as a member of the University Guide Service or as a tour guide for the School of Architecture. I’m also involved in a few leadership groups on Grounds and a (novice) member of the Sailing Team. In my free time I like to take long runs, sing in the shower, attend guest lectures and debates, and seek out awesome concerts on the Downtown Mall. Email me if you want to chat, and I can’t wait to see you all strutting around Grounds this summer!

Kristian Robinson

Kristian Robinson

Hey class of 2017 and transfer students! Welcome to the best few years of your life and your new home! My name is Kristian Robinson and I am a rising Third Year from Alexandria, VA in the College of Arts and Science majoring in Biology and Environmental Science. While not in the classroom, you can find me out on the field at a football game as a proud member of the University of Virginia’s Cavalier Marching Band. Or you may see me at John Paul Jones Arena as a member of the HOOps Basketball Band. I am also a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi, Honorary Band Fraternity. But that’s enough about me! You are about to embark on the most fun and memorable journey of your life and orientation is only the first step. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me. I am so excited to meet you all this summer, and I guarantee you that you made the right choice with UVA. WAHOOWA!

Lindsey Rosenthal

Lindsey Rosenthal

Welcome to UVa! My name is Lindsey Rosenthal and I'm so excited to be among the first to welcome and introduce you to the beautiful and dynamic university I call home. I'm a rising second year from Richmond, and though I've yet to decide on a major, I've dabbled in linguistics, French, and studio art courses, among others.  Course work aside, I devote my time to event planning for University Programs Council, volunteering through Madison House, partaking in local arts events, playing intramural soccer, running, and attending the fantastic seminars, shows and concerts UVa and Charlottesville have to offer. I'd love to chat and get to know you or answer any questions you might have, and please feel free to reach out to me at any time throughout the school year, if only just to say hi! Again, welcome, and wahoowa!

Lauren Russell

Lauren Russell

Congratulations and welcome to Mr. Jefferson’s University Class of 2017 and transfer students! I am Lauren Russell, a rising Second Year in the College of Arts and Sciences, from Poquoson, Virginia (pronounced Po-co-sin), which means “Great marsh” (and a great marsh it is).  I am “Pre-Med” and plan to major in Psychology with a minor in Business Spanish. Although Pre-Med classes occupy a lot of my time, I love being involved around Grounds! Volunteering at the UVA Hospital, coaching soccer for Madison House SOCA, serving as a member of Second Year Council, and spending Spring Break in Honduras with Global Medical and Dental Brigades have kept me busy. My first year at UVA was nothing less than spectacular and I cannot wait for you to enjoy the wonderful experiences of singing the Good Old Song at football games, seeing Lighting of the Lawn, and grabbing a bite to eat on the Corner. You will quickly find that UVA is one of the greatest places on Earth and that there is something here for all of you! Please feel free to send me an email if you have any questions. I can’t wait to meet you this summer! WAHOOWA!

Will Schwieder

Will Schwieder

Welcome, Class of 2017 and transfer students to your new home at Mr. Jefferson’s University! My name is Will Schwieder and I am a rising Third Year student in the College of Arts and Sciences. Originally born in San Francisco, I hopped the country and now call Richmond, Virginia my hometown. Since coming to the University and taking interesting but random classes from Tibetan Buddhism to International Relations of the Middle East I have finally settled on Economics and Foreign Affairs as my two majors. I have become involved in many of the organizations here at U.Va. including the Virginia Men’s Crew Team, Greek Life, the University Guide Service and Residence Life. In my free time, when I find it, I enjoy socializing with friends, swimming, and doing high adventure activities. If you have any concerns about your first year here at UVA don’t hesitate to come find me or shoot me an e-mail. I am thoroughly looking forward to getting to know you guys this summer! WAHOOWA!

In my free time, I love to play intramural sports with Sigma Chi, sing and play guitar, or go out with friends. If you have any questions about Greek life, the arts community, the Commerce school, or anything else please feel free to contact me and I’d love to talk. Can’t wait to meet you all at orientation. Congrats on picking the greatest school in the country.

Sreemoyee Som

Sreemoyee Som

Peace and Welcome to the University of Virginia, my fellow Hoos! My name is Sreemoyee and I grew up in Roanoke, Virginia though I now wholeheartedly call Charlottesville my home. As a rising second-year, UVA and the greater C-ville community continually molds my future aspirations but for now I'll commit to saying I'm a prospective Biomedical Engineer thinking of pursuing a minor in Engineering Business. Don't worry, in a few months you'll see how everything this community has to offer will get you as undecidedly excited about your future as me! I'm super interested in how technological and systems-thinking innovation fits into the wider framework of global public health - some of my fabulous friends and I are working on making our own CIO about it! I'm involved with research around grounds, RodCouncil, The Spectra research magazine, personal research, and ESWB. Can't wait to hear about what you're interested in/ maybe we can explore C-ville options together next year! Get ready to have the most amazing time of your life these next few years and welcome to the WAHOO FAMILY!

Sunny Sowards

Sunny Sowards

Hi Class of 2017 and transfer students! I’m Sunny Sowards, and I am so pumped to meet you all. I’m a rising second-year transferring into the Engineering School and hoping to study chemical engineering. I’m from the Sunshine State—specifically Orlando, Florida, and somehow, discussions on the topic of Mickey Mouse and puns about my name never get old. Once you arrive on Grounds, you’ll see that UVA is abounding with opportunities for you to grow and shape yourself, academically and socially, however you choose—which, to me, is what college is all about. So far, I’ve dedicated my time to my service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, as well as University Dance Club. If you ever want a friend to eat crepes with Downtown, to study with in a Garden on a beautiful spring day, or to explore with on Charlottesville’s many surrounding hiking trails, definitely don’t hesitate to let me know. Get ready to embark on a continually challenging and ever-incredible college experience. Congratulations to you all, and wahoowa!

Alex Stock

Alex Stock

Class of 2017 and freshly converted transfer students! You’re making me blush by reading my bio! My name is Alex Stock and I’m a rising Second Year fresh off the boat from Toronto, Canada, eh? Congratulations not only on getting into UVa, but on making the bang up decision to come here! I’m trying to get into the Comm School this winter, so fingers crossed (and textbooks open). When I’m not swiping you into the gym or advising residents, I’m working out (just kidding) or more likely stuffing my face. I’ve gone up two pant sizes as of the end of March – don’t take me for a role model when we’re at the dining hall. The Freshman 15 is real y’all! If you’ve had the unbridled pleasure of being assigned to Echols or Humphreys for next year, you could have me as your resident advisor, but if not, I’ll forgive you. Either way, you’re going to have a great time here and I’m so excited to meet as many of you as I can this summer at Orientation! It’s going to be a grand ole time!

Ravynn Stringfield

Ravynn Stringfield

Hello, hello, new Wahoos! Welcome to the family! My name is Ravynn Stringfield, I’m a rising second year French major from good old Suffolk, Virginia and I could not be happier to meet you guys. On any given day, I’m usually in or around Peabody Hall, where I volunteer with Virginia Ambassadors and work as a volunteer intern in the Outreach Office. I might also be found singing with UVA’s only gospel choir, Black Voices, or preparing to be a Peer Advisor for the next school year. When I’m not doing any of that that or studying to keep my grades up, I keep myself busy with my love of knitting and somewhat overwhelming fascination with classic literature. With that said, I wish you all the best as you get ready to take Orientation and all of first year by storm! Go, Hoos, go!

Hannah Strub

Hannah Strub

CONGRATS Class of 2017 and transfer students! I am so excited to be an Orientation Leader this summer and meet all of you! My name is Hannah Strub and I am a rising third year in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Foreign Affairs and History. I am from Fairfax, Virginia but have lived all over the US since my dad was in the military. On grounds I am involved in Student Council, Virginia Ambassadors, Fill the Hill, and a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. I am in love with UVa and sometimes I cannot believe that I go to such an amazing school when walking by the Rotunda on my way to class! There is something for everybody here and plenty of ways to find your place in this community. I cannot wait for all of you to fall in love with it too! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! That’s what we’re here for plus I love talking about anything related to UVa! Get ready for the best four years of your life and WAHOOWA!

Caroline Trezza

Caroline Trezza

Congratulations, hello, and welcome to the University of Virginia!  I’m so excited for each and every one of you.  My name is Caroline Trezza, and I’m a rising third year from Roslyn, NY (I tell everyone here that Long Island is the NOVA of New York!) I am double majoring in American Studies and Economics, and I may be interested in pursuing a degree in public policy later on.  Around grounds, I’m a tour guide for the University Guide Service, a service trip site leader for Alternative Spring Break, a Madison House Adopt-A-Grandparent volunteer, and I work for the Cavalier Daily newspaper.  You’re also likely to find me hanging out with friends, relaxing on the Lawn or in the Gardens, attending every football game, or occasionally having conversations about life over a dinner of chocolate chip pancakes.  Feel free to ask me anything!  I could talk your ear off about our history, school spirit, fascinating classes, or our welcoming and wonderful family of Wahoos – but I’m more excited for you to have the chance to discover this on your own. Welcome home!

Jesseca White

Jesseca White

Hey y’all! Congratulations Class of 2017 and transfer students! I’m so excited to welcome you to THE University of Virginia. You’re about to embark on the best years of your lives! I am Jesseca White, a rising second year in the School of Nursing. I am from THE heart of the state, Farmville, VA. However, UVA is my home away from home, and I love it! I am involved in Black Voices Gospel Choir, Student Nurse Association of Virginia, Office of African-American Affairs Peer Advisor Program, and Multiculturalism in Nursing Today. Here at UVA, you have the opportunity to get involved in some great organizations, take exciting courses, and partake in diverse experiences. With the support and company of your fellow Wahoos, you’ll find that there’s an outlet that satisfies nearly any creative avenue you can think of. I’m excited to meet everyone at orientation and even more excited to get you all started on the best journey of your lives. Kevin Whitehead

Kevin Whitehead

Congratulations, and welcome to UVA!  My name is Kevin Whitehead, and I am a rising 3rd year from Richmond, Virginia.  This Fall, I will be entering the Commerce School, and I plan on concentrating in finance as well as majoring in Economics.  Other than classes, I am involved in a sexual assault education and prevention group called One-in-Four, the inter-fraternity council as a member of the community service committee, and my fraternity.  Furthermore, I have the privilege to be a Head Program Director for Madison House next year.  I also have a variety of random interests, ranging from watching way too many television shows and movies on Netflix to playing basketball at the AFC whenever I can actually motivate myself to work out.  Regardless, please let me know if you have any questions about anything that I do, if you want to learn more about UVA in general, or if you just want to talk about life.  Anyways, I look forward to getting to know all of you, and get ready for an incredible four years at Mr. Jefferson’s University!

I am in the Curry School of Education studying Kinesiology with a minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality. Around Grounds, I spend the majority of my time at John Paul Jones Arena, the home of all things basketball, where I am a Women’s Basketball Manager. My time here at the University has been nothing short of AMAZING. I have enjoyed countless sporting events, a cappella concerts, meals on the Corner, and Charlottesville adventures. I love this place and soon you will too. I cannot wait to help you get more acquainted with the place you will soon call home. Get ready for the time of your lives. See you this summer!

My name is Nicole Winfree and I am rising third year from Alexandria, Virginia. (Yep, I'm a NOVA kid!) I'm double majoring in Foreign Affairs and Anthropology and couldn't be more excited for my next two years of college. One of the things that I love the most about UVA is all of the various opportunities to get involved that are available. I am currently philanthropy chair for my sorority and social chair for the Organization of Young Filipino Americans. I am also involved in the Catholic Student ministry and love to watch TV or read a good book in my spare time. I can’t wait to meet all of you and share my love for Mr. Jefferson’s University with you. If you ever have any questions, worries, or concerns, please hit me up and I’d be glad to help you in anyway that I can! So once again, WELCOME HOME and I hope that you will end up loving UVA as much as I do!

Congratulations and Welcome to one and only University of Virginia incoming and transfer students. I hope you are excited for your first taste of college life on grounds.  The next 4 years are going to be the best time of your lives. Ciao! Mi chiamo Donatello Romano! Piacere! I am a rising second year in the College of Arts and Sciences with ambitions of majoring in Economics and minoring in Italian. I hail from the windy city of Chicago, Illinois. Although I grew accustom to the big city life, I soon fell in love with the small town of Charlottesville (C'ville) that I now call home. Hopefully, when you arrive on grounds and see the bright stars in the night sky, you enjoy that same amazement that I felt. Outside of classes, I am a student equipment manager for the Varsity Football team. Whenever I am not working, I am either in the AFC, in Clemons library or chilling with friends. I am very outgoing and love meeting new people, so don't be shy to come say Hi. (oo that rhyme!) Again, Welcome to UVA and WAHOOWA! #Hoos!!
