What’s going on Class of 2020 and transfers! First and foremost, Congratulations and welcome to the illustrious UVA community! I am soooooo happy you have decided to spend the next 4 years (and rest of 4 years — (: Transfers) at UVA. My name is Jeffery Allgood and I am a rising third year from Chicago, IL. I am majoring in African American Studies, and intend to get a minor in Leadership from the Batten School. Aren't sure what Batten is? Don't sweat it, that’s why I’m here! Since being at the university, I am involved with the Black Student Alliance, Collegiate 100 Society, Fashion For a Cause, and CRAVE. When I’m not in class, and pulling all-nighters in Clemons Library, I am constantly meeting new people, listening and dancing to music, or coming up with modeling choreography for the Fashion Shows. I can’t wait to meet you all, and if you have any questions, feel free to email me! See you very soon!

Angie Aramayo

Angie Aramayo

HOLA CHICOS! Bienvenidos Class of 2020 and transfer students to your new home! Coming to the University of Virginia will be one of the best decisions you will ever make. My name is Angie Aramayo and I am a rising second year hoping to study Marketing and Economics. I was born in Lima, Peru and moved to Sarasota, Florida (just the city with the third best beach in the nation, no big deal) when I was nine. Moving to this beautiful home here at Charlottesville from Florida has been an amazing change. Not only was I able to experience this myth the North calls “winter” but I was also able to enjoy all the fun events UVA has throughout the seasons, such as the traditional snowball fight. When I am not running around to class, you can usually find me participating with Honor as a Support Officer, Latinos Student Alliance (LSA), Peer Mentoring Program (PMP), and Intramural soccer. As you can tell, there is something here for everyone. So get excited for this summer because you are about to embark on the BEST adventure of your life! Cannot wait to meet you all. Reach out to me if you ever have any questions! See you at Orientation!

A mouthful, I know). I’m passionate about swing dancing, I love reading fantasy and science fiction, and I’ve hiked both coasts and in Europe. I’m hoping to make it down to South America soon! On Grounds, I’m part of Honor and the Virginia Case Club, as well as the Outdoors Club. Hit me up with any and all hiking suggestions and little known trivia facts. I’m excited to welcome you to the University, and I look forward to meeting as many of you great people as possible!

Shaunye' Burton

WAHOOWA! Congratulations Class of 2020 and transfer students on being accepted into the best University in the land. My name is Shaunye’ Burton and I am a rising second year majoring in Psychology, and hopefully Kinesiology (currently on the waitlist for the program). I was born and raised in Southampton County, Virginia. If you don’t know where there is, there’s no reason to travel there because it doesn’t even compare to the amount of fun you will have in Charlottesville. Around Grounds, I am involved in the OAAA Peer Advising Program, Black Student Alliance, and Black Male Initiative. When I’m not participating in any of these club events, I’m usually at work on arts grounds as an event manager. It’s a really awesome job, you should all check it out. Any of my other time is spent on the second floor of Clemons, room 201, studying for classes. Please don’t hesitate to contact me via email to ask me more about myself, tell me about yourself, or any general questions about Grounds. Can’t wait to see you all!

Tanya Chikosi

HEY, what’s up and hello Class of 2020!! Congratulations on committing to what is, in my opinion, the best University on this planet! I hope that each and every one of you are as excited about your coming adventures as I was when preparing for college. My name is Tanya and I am a rising third-year majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Cognitive Science. I am an international student from Zimbabwe, however, I attended boarding school in Baltimore, MD. While my real home may be many hours away, Charlottesville quickly became an equally fulfilling home in my eyes. When I’m not in the library, I enjoy giving tours to prospective families and students as a guide for the University Guide Service. I also love to plan university-wide events as a part of the University Programs Council. If there’s one other random thing you should know about me, it is that I LOVE Drake and you all will be invited to our inevitable wedding! In all seriousness, I am so excited to get to know every single one of you; please feel free to reach out to me over text, email or just in person to ask me anything at all! I can’t wait to meet you guys! Good times, GO HOOS!

Colter Corish

Welcome to Hooville transfer students and Class of 2020- and huge congratulations! You are family now. I already cannot wait to link arms with you to sing the Good Ole Song next year as we dominate the ACC (fingers crossed)! My name is Colter Corish, and I hail from the southern state of Charlotte, NC- shout out to my out-of-staters. As a rising second-year, I plan on pursuing a double major in Media Studies with a concentration in Film, and I'll apply to the Commerce School this following year to pursue a concentration in Marketing. Also, I'm involved with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and swam (swum) for UVA Club Swim. I thoroughly enjoy exploring cville's incredible music and foodie scene and hiking the mountains of the Shenandoah. During the winter, I often make trips up to the nearby Wintergreen mountains to shred the gnar and fresh pow on snowboard. I can remember being in your shoes as if it was only a year ago—oh wait, it was— so I know how many questions you may have swarming around in your head before you make a new home here on grounds. Don't hesitate to reach out, as I would love to relieve any fears! See you soon.

As you arrive in Charlottesville, know that I can’t wait to share Grounds with each and every one of you. From singing the Good Old Song after a winning basketball game at JPJ to Lighting of the Lawn, from Saturday morning Bodo’s runs to eating dumplings in the amphitheater, there simply isn’t another place quite like this to be found, and now it’s yours to enjoy. I can’t wait to show you around your new home, and if you have any questions, please ask! I hope that you come to know the Grounds that I love. And as always, good times, go Hoos.

Hello new Hoos! My name is Haley Grau and I am a rising third year from Mechanicsville, Virginia. I am in the Curry School of Education studying Youth and Social Innovation and hope to one day work in nonprofit administration – preferably focusing on arts education in schools. My favorite things in life are making bad puns, cheering on the Hoos in basketball, and boosting morale no matter the situation. I am a sister of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and am involved in University Dance Club, Days on the Lawn, Dance Marathon, Young Women Leaders Program, and spent this past school year as a Resident Advisor. I have lived in both old and new dorms, so feel free to quiz me about the pros and cons of either. In my free time, I love eating out with friends or enjoying the unpredictable Charlottesville weather. I also am a huge country music fan and will always be down to have a sing along! I can’t wait to meet you all – welcome to UVA and wahoowa!

Josh Harrison

Josh Harrison

SQUAD Welcome to the University of Virginia! My name is Josh Harrison. I’m a rising fourth year (honestly terrifying) from Virginia Beach, Virginia. I’m in the School of Architecture, studying Architecture with a concentration in Design Thinking and pursuing a double major in American Studies with a concentration in Visual and Popular Culture. Disclosure: I applied into the A-School on accident and changed my major a couple times and left once or twice, but WE MADE IT. Anything is possible, life takes time, and Charlottesville is by far the best place to figure it all out. Outside of class I spend my time working for rADical, a student ad agency start up, as well as help run the recently started Virginia Architecture Magazine. I like good music and good conversation, but I’m not entirely sure that anyone likes bad music or conversation. Now’s the time to be engulfed in tradition; Hug Ms. Kathy, late night at Clem, and do things on GROUNDS. To the Class of 2020 and incoming transfer students, get stoked for the great times to come; We’re glad to have you!

I am involved with University Programs Council, Delta Gamma Sorority, and I am a Madison House volunteer. On a typical day at UVA, you can find me enjoying brunch at O’Hill, petting every dog on the Lawn, or grabbing a coffee at Greenberry’s. First semester I also volunteered with Madison House, one of the best service organizations on Grounds! When I’m not in class, I can usually be found somewhere in the stacks of Clark or Alderman (two of our many libraries on Grounds) or wandering around the Corner looking for something to eat. I cannot wait to meet you all and watch as this place becomes your home like it did for me when I first arrived here. I have learned a lot here at UVA, yet am still learning and I would thoroughly enjoy getting to meet you all and help you get to acclimated to the wonderful place that is The University of Virginia. Please do email me if you have any questions! And can’t wait to meet you at Orientation!

I’m a member of the University Guide Service, the Class of 2018 Council, FairED, Camp Kesem, the Virginia No-Tones (UVA has a cappella for the musically inept…there’s truly something for everyone here), Lighting of the Lawn, and Delta Gamma. Dear Newest Members of the Cavalier Community, Welcome to the Wahoo family at The University of Virginia! Whether you’re a First Year or a Transfer Student, I am honored to be one of YOUR Orientation Leaders. My name is Carolyn Oare and I am a rising Fourth Year in the College of Arts and Sciences, double-majoring in Government and English. During the academic year, I am a resident of the wonderfully unique and inclusive International Residential College. On Grounds, I volunteer with Madison House with the Cavs in the Classroom Program, serve on Student Council as part of the Community Service Committee, and work part time at North Grounds Recreation Center. I have to admit, I’m a professed gymrat and love, love, LOVE to play basketball. If I’m not sleeping or eating Arch’s frozen yogurt on the Corner, you’ll probably find me playing basketball at Mem Gym or in the stacks at Alderman Library. The college transition process is just that, a process! Let yourself enjoy the journey, be your most inquisitive self, and most importantly, welcome home! GO HOOS!

Kaileigh Palmer

Welcome home Wahoos!!! Congratulations to the Class of 2020 and transfer students on your decision to attend the University of Virginia! I am so excited to have the opportunity to welcome you to a school that has meant so much to me. My name is Kaileigh Palmer and I am a rising 3rd year in the wonderful School of Nursing. I consider my home to be wherever the Navy sends my family (and most recently, that place is Pensacola, FL- I would shout out to the area code but I don’t actually know what it is…). When I’m not kicking butt and saving lives, I enjoy long walks on the Lawn. Okay, let’s be real… I’m running down the Lawn to make it to my meeting that I’m already 10 minutes late for. Outside of the classroom I am involved in Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Student Nursing Association of Virginia, Catholic Student Ministry, Relay for Life, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Southwood Boys and Girls Club tutoring, and I am a Teaching Assistant in the School of Nursing. I’m a huge fan of the Good Ole Song, and I can’t wait to sing it alongside you, our newest Hoos. WAHOOWA!

Zoe Papelis

Zoe Papelis

Congratulations, newest wahoos, and welcome to UVA! My name is Zoe Papelis, and I'm a rising second-year student from Norfolk, Virginia. I'm a student in the College of Arts & Sciences, and I hope to major in Leadership & Public Policy with a minor in Spanish. For my first year at UVA, I lived in Gooch Dillard, volunteered with Madison House (more specifically, the Latino and Migrant Aid tutoring program), traveled to Honduras with Students Helping Honduras, and joined Kappa Delta sorority. In the next three years, I know that I will continue finding awesome groups to be a part of, and I encourage you to do the same! In my spare time, you can find me jogging on/around grounds, working hard (or not so hard) in the McGregor Room, or waiting in the endless but worthwhile dumpling line by the amphitheater. I'm more than happy to help you guys with whatever you need, so if you have any questions at all or just want to say hey, please don't hesitate to email me! I'm so excited to help welcome you all to your new home- WAHOOWA!

My name is Hector Quijano and I am a rising second year from Stafford, Virginia. I plan to double major in Economics and Foreign Affairs (at least for now). During my time at UVA, I have become involved as a tour guide for the University Guide Service, a volunteer for Madison House, a member of Second Year Class Council, and as a new executive board member of the Peer Mentoring Program for Hispanic and Latino students for the upcoming year. I am also a research assistant at a behavioral research lab where I run my research adviser’s studies but also work on my own personal project. There are so many organizations and opportunities to become involved on Grounds. So don’t worry, you’ll find your niche. I can’t wait to meet and hang out with all of you this summer! If you need anything please let me know! Again, CONGRATULATIONS AND SEE YOU SOON! GOOD TIMES GO HOOS!

Akash Raje

Akash Raje

First years, transfer students, HOOS! My name is Akash Raje, and I’m stoked to meet each and every one of y’all as you enter the University that we Hoos all hold so dear to us. I was born and raised in Detroit, MI, but I’ve lived in Midlothian, VA for the past five years. I’m currently undecided on my major, but I’m thinking something in the social sciences! UVA has offered me tremendous opportunities to get involved and grow, namely through my fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, the Student Hip Hop Organization, the International Relations Organization, and intramural sports (ballislife). Yeah buddy! You see folks, what UVA has offered me is something for which I’m forever grateful. Through the people I’ve met, the classes that I’ve taken, and the things I have experienced, I’ve not only learned an unbelievable amount about myself, but I’ve learned even more about other people. Your transition to UVA will likely mark the biggest change in your life whether you realize it or not. Come in with an open mind, ready to go, and you’ll grow to become the best you. And it all starts here, at Orientation. Feel free to contact me at any time. This is your time. Go Hoos!

2020 and transfers, what’s good! Congrats and welcome to beginning of the best years of your lives! My name’s Soleil Reed and I’m a rising second-year in the College, hoping to major in Global Studies, though I’ve still got time to figure all that out (at least, that’s what I tell my parents haha). I’ve moved around a lot growing up, but home for me right now is Virginia Beach (757, where you at?!). I joined Honor and Sustained Dialogue here fall semester my first year, the Jefferson Society my spring semester, and I love the opportunities and experiences I’ve been afforded as a result - as well as meeting great people who quickly became my friends. I’m also in the American Sign Language program and I can honestly say, it’s *the* most rewarding course I’m taking here, period. Lastly, I’m going to be an RA in first-year dorms this year, so I’ll be lucky enough to have some of you as my residents!! Around Grounds, you could easily find me riding the Northline bus aimlessly, chilling in Alderman Café pretending to do work, or studying late night in Clark *actually* doing work. Congratulations again guys, can’t wait to know you all!

What's up new Wahoos?! Let me be the first to welcome you to your new home! I'm excited you have chosen to attend the University of Virginia; you will not regret your decision! I am Kiara Rogers, a rising Second Year, from Chesterfield, Virginia. When I'm not embarrassing myself with friends or watching beauty videos on YouTube, you can find me fighting social injustices and representing my peers on various platforms. Currently I am interested in double majoring in Leadership and Public Policy through the Frank Batten School and English. This upcoming year I will continue to serve as a counselor on the University Judiciary Committee (hopefully I won't see you there), as well as the Leadership Development Chair in the Black Student Alliance, the Secretary of the Black Voices Gospel Choir, and a Peer Advisor in the Office of African American Affairs. Most importantly, come see me on the court during Intramural Basketball! I can't wait to meet you all! Welcome Hoos!

Class of 2020 and transfer students, congratulations and welcome to the University of Virginia! My name is Ashwanth Samuel and I am a rising 2nd year hailing from the Breadbasket of America: Kansas. Charlottesville has served as a lovely home away from home for me, and I hope that you all will eventually hold the same sentiments. I’m considering majoring in Financial Mathematics and Economics, but my intended plans vary on a daily basis, which has resulted in me exploring all sorts of classes from every corner of the University. In addition to the spontaneity of my classes, I am member of the University Guide Service, the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra, and the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. I am absolutely pumped to meet you all this summer- get ready for an incredible adventure!

Hellllooooo Class of 2020 and Transfer students!! Congrats on making easily one of the best decisions of your life, I cannot wait to share everything that I love about the University with you! My name is Mekenzye Schwab and I am a rising third year majoring in Media Studies (catch me on your TV someday), and possibly double majoring in American Studies… but really hooo knows? I’m from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and yes, I do love the beach. When I’m not in the classroom, you can find me chasing people down for interviews or news anchoring for WUVA, performing with my dance crew Xtasee, volunteering with Madison House, or just hanging with my sisters in Zeta Tau Alpha. I am a lover of all things that involve good food, great music, but most importantly coffee (typically all three at once). You’re about to begin the most exciting and challenging (in a good way, don’t worry) four years of your life, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic for you! Can’t wait to meet you all and Wahoowa!

Yash Shevde

Yash Shevde

Oi! Congratulations and welcome to the University! My name is Yash Shevde (Yash rhymes with flush, rush, crush .. how many more can you think of?) and I am a rising fourth-year student originally from Mumbai, India. I’m a Physics major and I hope to get to you before anyone scares you away from taking physics classes. Outside the classroom I’m involved with organizations such as One in Four, an all-male sexual assault prevention advocacy group, Sustained Dialogue, and I’m a rower on the Virginia Men’s Rowing team. I love slack-lining on the lawn with friends, fixing watches, having meaningful conversations and challenging myself with new pursuits. Excited to meet y’all and hoping to play a role in helping you start this new and seemingly daunting journey. Worry not! My fellow Orientation Leaders and I would love to hear from you at any time. Go Hoos!

Care Shoaibi

Care Shoaibi

Welcome UVA Class of 2020! So excited for each and every one of you! My name is Care Shoaibi and I am a rising third year from McLean, Virginia. As I’m writing this, my major is still undeclared, but I am hoping to double major in Economics and Women, Gender, and Sexuality. I am also pursuing my Masters in Public Policy in the Batten school. While at UVA, I’ve gotten involved in the University Guide Service, Sexual Violence Prevention Coalition, Sustained Dialogue, Alternative Spring Break, and my sorority, Pi Beta Phi. I also love playing intramural sports (although I have yet to win a championship but just you wait). Around Grounds you are most likely to find me in Newcomb dining hall, my home away from home, and frequently ordering cheesy bread to Alderman Library. But in all seriousness, UVA has always been my dream school—my mom went here, as did both of my aunts and my cousin, and these past two years at UVA have been the best years of my life. I can’t wait for you all to be a part of this wonderful community! Wahoowa!

Congratulations to the Class of 2020 and transfer students on making the best decision of your lives and coming to UVA! I am beyond excited to watch your love for UVA grow like mine did starting with Summer Orientation. My name is Talia Sion and I’m a rising third year in the Nursing School from New Jersey (fellow Northerners come find me to talk about real bagels and to practice saying “ya’ll”). I am a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, extremely involved in Jewish Life on Grounds, and present information sessions for the Admissions Office. When I’m not attempting to memorize a million different drugs and diseases for my next nursing exam, I’m probably on the Corner eating amazing food (shoutout to Lemongrass and the Virginian), or working on my minor in Netflix. I am so thrilled to have a wonderful summer with all of you and can’t wait for you all to become official Wahoos! Welcome to your new home away from home!

Outside of the classroom, I’ve really enjoyed giving tours through the University Guide Service, tutoring middle school students through Madison House, participating in Sustained Dialogue, and being a part of my fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. I’m always looking to check out new events and organizations on Grounds, and am consistently amazed by the number of opportunities available at the University. I can’t wait to meet you guys and show you what an amazing place UVA is – feel free to email me if you have any questions or just want to talk! See you soon and get pumped!

Bryan Solvie

Bryan Solvie

What’s up new Hoos! Congrats and welcome to the University of Virginia! My name is Bryan Solvie and I’m a rising 3rd year, fresh off the boat from Kobe, Japan (shout out to the +81 area code). Although I grew up in the big city life, I’ve fallen in love with Charlottesville and this University faster than I could have imagined, and I’m sure you’ll have the same experience. I’m heading into the Commerce school in the upcoming year and plan to study Finance and Management. But life isn't all about school - I like to keep myself busy outside of the classroom as well. I’m involved in Student Ambassadors, Madison House volunteering, Class Council, HackCville, and will be an RA in the upcoming year. When I’m not keeping myself busy with anything above, I like to play basketball, watch movies, and hang around with friends around grounds. Anyway, I can’t wait to meet all of you and if you have any questions feel free to shoot me an e-mail! Wahoowa!

Raquel Talbott

Raquel Talbott

Hello Class of 2020 and transfer students! I’m so honored to welcome you to this fabulous institution and so incredibly happy for you because soon my home is also going to be yours! I’m Raquel Talbott, a rising third year from a number of different places (I’m your typical Third Culture Kid), but I consider Springfield, VA home. I’m studying Foreign Affairs in the College of Arts & Sciences with a potential Spanish minor. When I’m not studying for my endless midterms, I keep myself busy by being involved with the Latino Student Alliance and the Hispanic/Latino Peer Mentoring Program. I’m also a sister of Chi Omega Sorority and a resident at La Casa Bolivar (aka The Spanish House)! I’m a big UVA men’s basketball fan (I’m often told I get too emotional during games) and love to eat on the Corner whenever I get the chance (Take it Away’s house dressing is seriously to die for). I’m beyond excited to get to know you and I’m always available if you have any questions or concerns so feel free to hit me up! Trust me, you are going to have a fantastic time here. WAHOOWA and Congrats!!

Amelia Wald

Amelia Wald

WAHOOWA and welcome Class of 2020 and transfer students! Congratulations on choosing Mr. Jefferson’s University as your new home! My name is Amelia Wald, and I am a rising second year from University Place, WA, just south of Seattle (yes it really does rain there all the time). I'm majoring in History with a minor in Economics. When I’m not in class, you can find me talking politics on the Lawn, working with Catholic Student Ministries, or stuffing my face with Bodo’s Bagels. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I’m so excited to introduce you to the first part of your absolutely amazing four years here! GO HOOS

Nora Walls

Nora Walls

HEY THERE, Class of 2020 and transfer students, and welcome to UVA! My name is Nora Walls and I’m a rising fourth year (so old, I know) from Arlington, Virginia. I am double-majoring in English (with a concentration in creative writing – if you like to write, come talk to me!) and Media Studies. Outside my classes, I give tours with the University Guide Service, write humor and opinion articles for the Cavalier Daily, and I get to work with an awesome theater organization called First Year Players. I’ve also found some incredible community service opportunities while at UVA, volunteering at the Haven in Downtown Charlottesville and going on a weeklong service trip with Alternative Spring Break! In my free time, I love reading, doing yoga, attempting to recreate every recipe I’ve ever seen on Pinterest, and singing along to every song that comes on the radio, whether or not I actually know the words. Charlottesville is an incredible place to live and go to college, with so many places to explore and even more places to eat (still trying to work my way through them all). Don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you ever want to chat!

Jean Wang

Jean Wang

HELLO AND CONGRATS, Class of 2020 and transfer students! I am excited to personally welcome you to this marvelous University, and to celebrate with you the incredible next few years that you will have here. My name is Jean Wang, and I am a rising third year from Fredericksburg, VA (where Chick-fil-A sauce was invented, in a mall 20 minutes away from my house). I am most involved with Tom Tom Founders Festival, a nonprofit that hosts numerous events throughout the year, most notably the rad events around the birthday week of our man TJ. My hobbies include quoting Parks and Rec, channeling my inner Tina Belcher, and playing Neko Atsume because I like to waste time. See you soon, Hoos, and welcome to our community!

Austin Widner

Austin Widner

Howdy, y’all! Here’s a WAHOO-welcome to the class of 2020! I know, I know, you may think that your future doesn’t look clear, and you probably still have double vision from filling out applications (I HAD to make a few vision puns, because… 20/20. Get it?) My name is Austin Widner, and I come from the small town of Saltville, Virginia. I am a rising second year who is currently studying Environmental Science and Anthropology. I am super psyched to meet all of you guys, and to be there for you! There’s always something to do here, whether it’s on or off Grounds – there’s only a dull moment if you let there be one! Outside of being an OL, I enjoy hitting the gym and playing some pickup basketball, hiking through Shenandoah (because it reminds me of my mountain home), and hanging out with my brothers and sisters in Christ that I’ve met through the various fellowships here! Outside of academia, I am a bit of a wildcard, as I am a sports fanatic (GO YANKEES), a bit of a mountaineer, a huge nerd and comic book fan, and even an 90’s rap enthusiast. Don’t hesitate to message me if you have any questions, want to shoot some hoops, arm wrestle, hike, or maybe even have some tea and chill! WAHOOWA!
