Aisha Ameen asa3cj@virginia.edu
Hello Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Aisha Ameen, and I am a rising Third Year in the College of Arts & Sciences majoring in Sociology. I have lived in Stafford, VA for three years now, but I am originally from Washington State – shout out to the West Coast! While at UVA, I have been involved in the First Year community, because I think all First Years are awesome! I am a Peer Advisor in the Office of African American Affairs and a Resident Advisor. I volunteer for Madison House as a big sibling, mentor at Charlottesville High school, play intramural volleyball, and am a member of the University Judiciary Committee. Words cannot express how excited I am to help you find the many opportunities that UVA has to offer outside the classroom. The best advice I can give you is to be excited about being a member of the UVA community – we are all awaiting your arrival!
Maera Andresmaa3t@virginia.edu
A Warm Wahoo Welcome to the Class of 2015 and transfer students: Congratulations! You all are about to embark on an epic journey here at UVA, and I am honored to help you begin this process. My name is Maera Andres, a rising FOURTH Year from Virginia Beach (represent!). I’m majoring in Biology, minoring in Drama, as well as being on the Pre-Health track, specifically Pre-Optometry. Next year, I should be interning with the University Career Services (UCS) Health Professions Advising Department, so students interested in health professions should definitely contact me! Besides academia, you can find me working with leadership programs like Blueprint, taking on leadership roles in diverse minority organizations (OYFA), volunteering at Madison House and Venable Elementary, and dancing my heart out with X-tasee’s Competitive Dance Crew. In addition, I love to play tennis and would take a hike with you at Humpback Rock any day! Come in with an open heart and mind to what UVA has to offer, and, trust me, Jefferson’s University will not disappoint you. I’ll see you soon, so get HYPED!
Evan Behrleebb3tf@virginia.edu
Class of 2015 and transfer students: welcome to your new home! My name’s Evan Behrle, and I’m a rising Second Year from Baltimore, MD. As you might expect, that means I love crabs, being awkwardly situated between the North and the South, and The Wire. Even more than The Wire, though, I've quickly fallen in love with the organizations that I’m involved with around Grounds: the University Guide Service, a sexual assault awareness group called One-in-Four, the Honor System, and my fraternity. Please feel free to ask me about any of these, or about my intended major, Political & Social Thought – or about anything else. I cannot wait to share with you some of the University that I love so dearly. In the meantime, have a great summer!
Josh Bresslerjkb6mf@virginia.edu
Hey, Class of 2015 and transfer students! Welcome to Hooville, the home of everything awesome and great! My name is Josh Bressler and I am from St. Louis, MO, doing my best to represent that Arch. I am a rising Third Year in the McIntire School of Commerce and hopefully minoring in Middle Eastern Studies. Around Grounds, I am a part of the Charlottesville and University Symphony Orchestra as a percussionist, First Year Players as a pit musician, Spectrum Theatre as an actor and director, as well as Student Council and Speech Team. When I am not doing any of that, I am improvising (read: making bad jokes) as one of the Whethermen, UVA’s oldest improv troupe! Of course, somewhere in there are those classes on the Arabic language and Financial Accounting… But seriously, you guys are going to have a blast here and I hope you are as psyched as I am. You will, in no time, call UVA your home. If you have questions about anything, please feel free to send them my way; I compulsively check my email. This is going to be legen…dary!
Michael Bugasmab3nx@virginia.edu
Congratulations, and welcome to the University of Virginia Class of 2015 and transfer students! Prepare yourselves for the best few years of your life. My name is Michael Bugas, and I am a rising Second Year from Staunton, VA. Currently I am undecided in the College of Arts & Sciences, but I have an interest in Global Development and Political and Social Thought. Around Grounds, I give tours with the University Guide Service, I am involved with First Year Association Council, and I am involved in my fraternity (Sigma Chi). This summer I will be traveling to South Africa with the Study Abroad Program, which should be an unbelievable experience. When it warms up, you will typically find me out on the soccer field kicking a ball around. I am excited to welcome you all to the University and can’t wait to meet many of you over the summer. If you have any questions, feel free to come talk with me, as I know how intimidating a larger university can be coming from a small town. You will have no regrets; the University is an unbelievable place. Embrace every opportunity, and GET PUMPED! Go Hoos!
Emily Burnseab4zr@virginia.edu
Class of 2015 and transfer students, welcome to the University of Virginia! I am so excited that you are here! My name is Emily Burns, a rising Third Year in the Engineering School majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering, and I am from Richmond, VA. I am involved in Agape Christian Fellowship and Alpha Omega Epsilon, the only engineering sorority at UVA. When I am not doing school work I love baking, photography, going to as many UVA sporting events as possible, and just playing outside in the beautiful Charlottesville weather! I am so excited to meet you all and get to know you! Please email with questions or concerns! WAHOOWA!
Claire Cantrellcec4yd@virginia.edu
Hey class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Claire Cantrell, and I’m very excited to welcome you to the University of Virginia. I am a rising Third Year from Oakton, VA majoring in Spanish and minoring in Religious Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences. I am also pursuing a Masters in Elementary Education in the Curry School of Education. Since I’ve been at UVA, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in Agape Christian Fellowship, Cavs and Panthers (a tutoring program for elementary school children), club field hockey, Madison House, and Virginia Alpine Ski and Snowboarding Team. I have also studied abroad in Valencia, Spain for the summer and volunteered in the Dominican Republic with Alternative Spring Break. UVA has so much to offer, and I can’t wait to help you get acquainted with this school. You’re going to love it here. Get ready for four amazing years! If you have any questions feel free to email.
Jessie Cappellojcc5vm@virginia.edu
Welcome fellow Cavaliers! Get excited, because you’re about to become part of an amazing, busy, intelligent, and absolutely fabulous University family! My name is Jessie Cappello, and I am a rising Second Year in the College of Arts & Sciences. Though I rarely stay in one place at a time, I have decided on pursuing a Communication Disorders and Speech Pathology major in the Curry School of Education. I’m from Mechanicsville, VA, and despite my love of dresses, I grew up on a sheep farm my whole life. I’m a new member of Sigma Kappa Sorority and am also actively involved with the Student Life Committee of Student Council and Madison House Volunteering. You can always find me on the Lawn if the sun is shining, and I love meeting new people and hanging out with my friends. I ask a lot of questions myself, so feel free to bombard me with just as many! Get ready for a great two days and even more so for your first year at THE University!
Joe Choihc8rk@virginia.edu
Class of 2015 and transfer students, let me congratulate you on making the best choice of your life! My name is Joe Choi, a rising Second Year in the College of Arts & Sciences. I grew up most of my life in New Jersey, but now I am a happy resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia. On Grounds, I take classes spanning the works of Caravaggio to the time value of money; I will hopefully be declaring my majors in Commerce and Art History this coming year. You’ll soon see that the University of Virginia has a vast and daunting array of activities to get involved in – no niche or interest goes unfulfilled. Personally, I’m a part of the oldest student-run organization on Grounds, the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, as well as the International Relations Organization and Habitat for Humanity. I look forward to seeing you guys in the Academical Village! Feel free to ask anything, anytime.
Chris Condonckc3qs@virginia.edu
Congratulations incoming First Years and transfer students, and welcome to your home away from home. My name is Chris Condon, and I am from Raleigh, NC. I'm an Economics and either a Politics or History major. If you have any interest in these majors, hunt me down during Summer Orientation or shoot me an email. At UVA, I am a part of Third-Year Council, and give tours around Grounds with the University Guide Service. When I am not doing homework or sleeping, I am going to one of the many sporting events at UVA. Trust me, there are great sports teams here and loyal fans. Once again, Welcome to UVA and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
Nell Connorsnec7db@virginia.edu
Well hello there, class of 2015 and transfer students! We’ve heard all about how great you all are and cannot wait to meet you. My name is Nell Connors, and I’m from Montclair, NJ, right outside of New York City. And one of the bigger Yankee fans in the Charlottesville area. I’m going to be a Third Year in the School of Architecture, and there’s nothing I love more than meeting incoming and prospective ‘A-School’-ers! I’m also involved in my sorority (Kappa Delta) and the Inner-Greek and UVA affiliates of Habitat for Humanity. I even spent my spring break with Habitat, building houses in South Carolina. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about anything, and I cannot wait to meet you all!
Jenna Dagenhart jmd2sx@virginia.edu
Congrats and WELCOME, Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Jenna Dagenhart, and I could not be happier to serve as your Orientation Leader this summer! I am a Second Year Media Studies and Spanish double-major, who might as well be minoring in extracurricular activities. I have enjoyed being involved in Dorm Association Council, Second-Year Class Council, Blueprint Leadership Program, Days on the Lawn and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. As you’ll soon discover, UVA has AWESOME student-run organizations and opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. So far, I’ve run on a Charlottesville 10-miler team with Economics Professor Lee Coppock, studied abroad via UVA-Valencia, gone out to lunch with Kenneth Elzinga, and led a cooking class at the UVA International Center with my German TA. I also broadcast for the UVA Radio (92.7), volunteer at Martha Jefferson Nursing Home, hold an officer position in my sorority (Delta Gamma), play Intramural Sports and serve as a VISAS Language Consultant. My final message for you: work hard, have fun, and get involved! UVA is a long, powerful, and enjoyable journey that will be a treat even better than Arch's on "the Corner!" Good luck!
Matt Dunhammsd2bs@virginia.edu
Welcome, Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Matt Dunham, and I’m a rising Third Year majoring in Foreign Affairs. I was born in London, England but only lived there until I was 5, so unfortunately I lost the accent and I can’t even fake it. Now I call Fairfax, VA my hometown but Charlottesville has easily become just as important of a place in my life. This year at UVA I’ve been involved in Resident Staff, Alpha Kappa Psi (the professional business fraternity), Second Year Council, Alternative Spring Break, and Men’s Leadership Program. I also work at the Information Desk at Newcomb Hall where I may have told you or your parents how to get to the Rotunda or the bathroom! I love tennis and have a huge crush on T-Swift, but above all I can’t wait to get to know you guys over the next couple of days and officially welcome you to THE University of Virginia!
Jason Elliottje9az@virginia.edu
Welcome to the University of Virginia! Whether you are here as a First-Year, transfer, or international student, I can promise that these next few years will be absolutely unforgettable! My name is Jason Elliott, and I’m a Fourth Year from Chesapeake, VA majoring in Psychology. Besides staying busy with my class schedule, I am a member of the New Dominions, UVA’s oldest co-ed a cappella group, and Circle K International, the largest collegiate community service organization in the world! A wise man once told me “You get out of school and life what you put into it.” It is true! So, go! Put in as much effort and enthusiasm as possible and you won’t believe what happens next! Again, I cannot wait to meet you, and congratulations on the best decision of your life! WAHOOWA!
Erin Flanaganef5ce@virginia.edu
Welcome to UVa, Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Erin Flanagan, and I’m a rising Third Year in the College of Arts & Sciences studying Foreign Affairs. I’m from Weymouth, MA, right near the greatest city of all time, Boston. Charlottesville is a close second though, mostly because I’m here more than home. Around Grounds, I am involved in the University Guide Service, my sorority (Pi Beta Phi), Student Council, Third Year Council, and Bridging the Gap through Madison House! In my free time you can find me on the Lawn, at Take It Away (house dressing, yes) or, you know, the library. I know coming into college as a First Year or transferring to UVA (like me) is scary, but rest-assured knowing that you’re coming to the best place on Earth! Don’t hesitate to email me with any questions, and I cannot wait to meet you all. Get ready, breathe easy and most importantly, get excited! Go Hoos!
Courtney Foxcvf3vw@virginia.edu
Welcome, Wahoos! I’m so excited to meet you this summer as you become a part of our University community. Orientation gives you a great taste of life here and definitely pumps you up for the next four years. Not to mention the friends and connections you make – one of my roommates is the first person I met at Summer Orientation! My name is Courtney Fox, and it’s hard to believe that I’m already halfway through my time here – I’m a rising Third Year with a declared major in Music. I was thinking about double majoring in Studies in Women and Gender. Or minoring in Economics. Or Politics. And I started out in the Engineering School. And that’s not to mention all the super cool clubs with which you can get involved. It just goes to show that you can cram so much into your time at UVA! So hopefully you’re feeling excited about the diversity, depth, and freedom of college. If not, never fear! Feel free to shoot me an email, or bring questions to your Orientation Leader this summer. We can’t wait to meet you and share the incredible experiences that we’ve had at the University of Virginia with you.
Anna Gaineyadg4jk@virginia.edu
Welcome to Wahoo-ville, incoming students! Get pumped for you next years at U-V-A! My name is Anna Gainey, and I am a rising Third Year in the School of Nursing. I’m from Vienna, VA and Berlin, Germany but have grown up moving around the world. If you can’t find me in the hospital or the nursing buildings, I’m generally training with the Triathlon Team or hanging out with my friends in Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. I’m truly in love with Bodos and the new Starbucks on the South Lawn. I am also a First Year Resident Advisor for the 2011-2012 academic year. I think UVA has so much to offer, and I hope you all take advantage of this incredible place. I find out about more opportunities each day! I cannot wait to welcome you all to this awesome, trusting community and hope that you’re time at Orientation is a great start to the years you spend here. Feel free to email me with any and all questions – I’ll do my best to answer!
Christian Garlandcng8te@virginia.edu
Hello, Class of 2015 and transfer students, and welcome to THE University of Virginia! I hope that each of you are ready to begin the BEST four years of your life (and yes, I mean the BEST). I’m Christian Garland from Richmond, VA – shout out to those from the 804! I am a rising Third Year in the College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Political and Social Thought. When I’m not admiring the Rotunda, you can catch me rapping, teaching a fellow peer how to dougie or possibly doing other activities around Grounds such as: volunteering for Madison House, Mentoring for the Young Women’s Leaders Program (YWLP), facilitating for First Year Seminar or spending my time with class council. UVA has truly become a place that I call home and hopefully it will become the same for you. I am so excited to meet all of you this summer! Please do not hesitate to email me if you have questions or would simply like to learn how to dougie. WAHOOWA!
Creigh Greensmithgcg5pz@virginia.edu
Welcome aboard, Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Creigh (pronounced ‘Cray’—like a crayon) Greensmith, and I am a Third Year majoring in Biochemistry. I hail from the great state that brought you Coca-Cola, peanut butter, and Chic-fil-a, and my state is always on my mind. If you couldn’t figure it out from the hints, I’m talking about Georgia (Atlanta specifically), and I couldn’t be happier to be at the University of Virginia! When I’m not studying, I love being outside hiking, playing sports, or just relaxing on the Lawn. Around Grounds, I’m actively involved in my fraternity, my Christian Fellowship, and Navy ROTC (which might explain the introduction). If any of those interest you or you just have a random question about life at UVA, please do not hesitate to email me! I can’t wait to meet y’all and introduce you to the incredible and diverse opportunities that the University of Virginia has to offer. Get ready for a tremendous college experience – WAHOOWA!

My name is Charity Harrell, and I am a rising Third Year from Chesapeake, VA (757 represent!). I am a Political and Social Thought major and am interested in going to Law School upon graduation. Mary-Alden Jonesmaj4yf@virginia.edu
Howdy, Class of 2015 and transfer students! Congratulations, and welcome to THE University of Virginia! Get ready to rock and roll through the best few years of your life! My name is Mary-Alden Jones, and I’m a rising Third Year studying American Government and tentatively studying History. I am from bluegrass heaven in Southwest Virginia in a tiny town called Cana. It has zero stoplights and countless apple orchards. Music is my significant other. I sing and play the guitar and ukulele. ALOHA! You may find me playing and singing at special events around Grounds or playing open mics around Charlottesville when I’m not studying! I am a part of the University Guide Service and try my best to represent my main man, TJ. One of my new favorite sports to play here at UVA is racquetball (even though the goggles look goofy). I love everything about this place and I know you will too! I can’t wait to meet all of you superstars this summer! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me! WAHOOWA!
Robert Kellrlk5be@virginia.edu
Class of 2-0-1-5, say what! The best class ever! Dorky? Yes, but I feel as that encapsulates my dorkiness rather nicely. My awkwardness aside, prepare to embark on the most amazing four years of your life. Hailing from the fairly unknown - and not for lack of reason-part of Virginia, (276, way in the sticks), my name is Robert Kell and I am a rising Third Year in the College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Foreign Affairs and Studies of Women and Gender. Although from my picture it looks like I spend most of my time in classes, I also participate in Class Council, Alternative Spring Break, Sustained Dialogue, volunteering for Madison house, Queer/LGBT equality issues around Grounds, and napping. In the words of Jefferson, “a University on a plan so broad and liberal and modern… a temptation to the youth of other States to come and drink of the cup of knowledge and fraternize with us,” thanks for joining our community at the University of Virginia!
Clay Kerchofwck7mx@virginia.edu
Class of 2015 and transfer students: Welcome to the University of Virginia! I congratulate you on your decision to come to UVA. There is absolutely nothing like it. My name is Clay Kerchof, and I am a rising Second Year from Birmingham, AL (but I have lived all over the place). I am in the School of Architecture majoring in Urban & Environmental Planning. I am hoping to apply to the Batten School of Public Policy & Leadership at the end of my Third Year. I am a member of the University Guide Service and First Year Players, a student-run theater group. I am absolutely obsessed with the University of Virginia and talk about how much I love being here every day (like, actually). But when I am not in giving tours, in rehearsal, or talking about how much I love UVA (oh yeah, and studying in Alderman Library), I like to read on the steps of the Rotunda, meet friends for coffee, frequent The Virginian for their unbelievable Mac N Cheese, and take trips to the Downtown Mall. UVa is such a special place, and I am so happy that y'all have chosen to become part of this incredible community. I can't wait to meet y'all this summer! Send me an email if any of y'all have questions. Wahoowa!
Mike Kerriganmtk6mz@virginia.edu

Brandon Kistbjk5m@virginia.edu
Welcome, Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Brandon Kist, and I am a rising Fourth Year (read: old man) from Cincinnati, OH. I am a double-major in History and Government, and I am getting ready to apply to law school in the fall. During my time at UVA, I have been lucky enough to serve as a tour guide with the University Guide Service, a counselor for the Honor Committee, an intern at the UVA Center for Politics, and a legal intern through Madison House. I have met some amazing people and really found a home at UVA through these involvements, so please ask me about them if they strike your interest. When not doing those things, I also love to play intramural sports, toss baseball on the Lawn, eat on the Corner, and wander around the American History stacks in Alderman Library. As I enter my last year at UVa, I cannot tell you how jealous I am that you all are just beginning your journey. UVA has been the best decision I have ever made, and if I had it to do all over again…I would most definitely do it the same. You are in for an incredible ride, and I am excited to help you get started!

Hey, Class of 2015! Congratulations, and welcome to the best four years of your life! My name is Kelly McCoy and I am a rising third year from NOVA. (Original, I know.) Currently, I am an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Days on the Lawn, Building Tomorrow, a philanthropy group that raises money to build primary and secondary schools in Uganda, Student Council and the UVA Wind Ensemble. My past two years here have been nothing short of spectacular—whether it be hanging out on the Hill with my friends at football games, eating a late night Little John’s sandwich to attending the Lighting of the Lawn every winter, I can attest that it is hard not to fall in love with Mr. Jefferson’s University. However, I think it’s safe to say that college in general can seem a little daunting—feel free to email me if you’ve got any concerns or just want to chat! I can’t wait to meet you all this summer and WAHOOWA!

Around Grounds, I’m involved with Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Alpha Kappa Psi (a professional business fraternity), and ESL tutoring in the Madison House. Given my hometown, it might not be too surprising that my absolute favorite thing to do in my spare time is skiing (I’m obsessed!). I also really enjoy tennis, volleyball, and anything else that’ll get me outside in C’ville’s beautiful weather. I’m so excited and happy for you guys and can’t wait to start meeting you! WAHOOWA!
Conor O'Boylecto5zc@virginia.edu
Hey, Class of 2015 and transfer students! Congratulations, and welcome to the University of Virginia, where hopefully you will have what you consider to be the best four years of your life. My name is Conor O’Boyle, and I’m a Second Year student from Oradell, NJ, studying Foreign Affairs and Religious studies. In my spare time, I’m a member of the University Guide Service and Catholic Student Ministry, and I work with the Honor Committee. I expected that my orientation would be the first step in an amazing journey, and I have not been let down. Although I’ll always be a New Jersian, I felt at home in Charlottesville almost immediately, and I hope you will too. You have an incredible opportunity before you in a place uniquely rich in history and tradition, so take advantage of every opportunity possible. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all. Enjoy your orientation, your first year at UVA, and your whole career here, and remember, you will get in what you put out, and more. Go Hoos!
Michael Piercemrp2pg@virginia.edu
Hey, 2015ers and transfers! My name is Michael Pierce, and I’m a Second Year Psychology major interested in health professions. Congrats on getting into the best University in the country (though some Berkeley students might put up an argument)! As every OL has said/will say – get ready to have a blast. This place is spectacular, from corner to corner. I was born in Richmond, then proceeded to live on multiple Indian Reservations in the western US, as well as Alaska. For the past 15 years, however, I’ve lived in the rural county of Shenandoah, VA, and I graduated from Central High School. I’ve played soccer my entire life, and have competitively swum for much of it. That being said, my two favorite things to do are swim (anywhere but a pool actually), and play soccer. I wish to go on to medical school, eventually to practice psychiatry. I have been involved in Club Swimming, Madison House, and I am an assistant soccer coach at local Albemarle High School. I look forward to getting to know you all, and I will just close by giving a repeated congratulation, and by personally welcoming you to UVA.
Matt Powellmnp6vh@virginia.edu
Howdy! Congratulations on making one of the best decisions of your life! My name is Matt Powell. I'm a rising Third Year from Austin, TX (out of staters represent!), and will attend the McIntire School of Commerce in the fall, while majoring in Economics through the College of Arts & Sciences. I'm also an Echols Scholar here at the University. When I'm not going to class and studying (yes I still have free time) I am actively involved in my fraternity (Beta Theta Pi), Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, working for Sports Promotions, Student Council, First Year Seminar, and am a reigning IM sports champion! If you have any questions about any of these (or absolutely anything sports related), please email me, and I would love to fill you in! There is so much you can get involved in here, and you can start leaving your mark as soon as you get to the University. I'm extremely excited for y’all and look forward to getting to meet many of you this summer. You definitely made the right decision coming here, and I know you will discover that for yourself once you get here. Oh, one last thing, WAHOOWA!
Katie Rarigkcr9fc@virginia.edu
Welcome to the land of Wahoowa! Get ready for a few incredible years ahead of you! My name is Katie, and I’m a rising Third Year majoring in Civil Engineering and minoring in Urban and Environmental Planning. I’m an Army Brat, so I have lived all over the US and I have also lived in Germany and traveled all over Europe. I currently live in Smithfield, VA, home of Smithfield Ham (and the world’s largest ham biscuit!). I am a Chi Omega, and I am involved in the Society of Women Engineers and Engineering Student Council. I love the outdoors and have backpacked through the Cascade Mountains in Washington State for the past three summers with my dad and older sister. I try to take advantage of as many opportunities that UVA has to offer as I can, from concerts at the John Paul Jones Arena, to picnics in UVA gardens with friends, the possibilities are endless! The memories you will make here will last forever. College is the time to try new things and meet as many incredible people as you possibly can. I have made it my personal goal to eat at every restaurant in Charlottesville because there are more places to eat per capita in Charlottesville than New York City! You’ve made an excellent choice to come to Mr. Jefferson’s University, get ready for COLLEGE!
Marvin Richardsmar5vj@virginia.edu

I am an active member of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT), Sustained Dialogue, Residence Life, and the Multicultural Committee of Residence Life. I can’t wait to meet you all, and know that I am here to help and assist you in any way possible. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions. Get ready for a great time and making new friends. Cavaliers for life!

Congratulations Class of 2015 and Transfer Students! I hope you are as excited as I am to get your time here on Grounds started; I promise that you’ll have the time of your life! My name is Chris Roy, and I’ve lived in Lynchburg, Virginia all my life. I’m a rising second year currently enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. I came to the University of Virginia not really knowing what career I wanted to pursue, but now I’m hoping to get into the McIntire School of Commerce (fingers crossed!) this coming Spring. I’m currently involved in the Honor Fraternity Phi Sigma Pi, University Democrats, and I absolutely love Intramural Soccer. I love all things outdoors, camping, hiking, swimming, you name it, and I’m a HUGE Redsox fan. I absolutely can’t wait to meet all you new Wahoos! If you have any questions about anything, please don’t hesitate to ask me. Get ready to start an amazing journey, and I can’t wait to meet you all. See you soon!

Hi, Class of 2015 and transfer students! I’m Katie Rust, a rising Third Year in the College of Arts & Sciences from Williamsburg, VA. I am double majoring in Media Studies and Anthropology and also considering the new Business Spanish minor. Around Grounds, I’m on the University Programs Council Special Events Committee, part the Madison House Day Care program, and am also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. Outside of class, I love going to the Corner and downtown with my friends, especially eating at all the fantastic restaurants in Charlottesville, and de-stressing at the AFC. I also love dressing in my orange and blue and supporting the Cavaliers at every kind of sporting event. UVA is an amazing place, so get excited to have the best next few years of your life. I can’t wait to meet all of you!
Lena Shiyls5fc@virginia.edu
WELCOME! My name is Lena Shi - I'm a rising Third Year studying Global Development with a curriculum constructed around economics, international cultural exchange, and education. I've lived on the other side of Charlottesville for half my life and hope you'll love it here as much as I do! I'm involved in Residence Life, the University Programs Council, and a community-based research project through the Jefferson Public Citizens Program - but spend a lot of time learning from other student organizations! There are hundreds of opportunities ready for you - let's get started! See you soon!
Sarah Steelysms2wx@virginia.edu
Don't be fooled. Disney World is NOT the greatest place on Earth – the University of Virginia is! Hyperbole (or is it?) aside, hold onto your hats – you're in for the ride of your life! My name is Sarah, and I am a rising Third Year from Catawissa, PA, which is kind of close to Scranton. Yes, I don't like to brag, but Steve Carell and I are best friends. This summer, I'm your go-to girl for questions about Residence Life, Student Council, Art at UVA, and anything/everything environmental. One of my favorite things to do here is work in the student gardens, and we're even working to start a student-run farm! (Yes, I am a vegetable nerd.) I also know the best burrito in town, but that's a secret I might just keep. I am so excited to meet each and every one of you this summer. I can't wait to be a part of the first two days of the best few years of your life. Hurry up, Mr. Jefferson is waiting for you!
EP Stonehillems5md@virginia.edu
What’s up Class of 2015 and transfer students! Welcome to THE University of Virginia: land of Thomas Jefferson, Take-it-Away sandwiches, and the most extraordinary people you will ever meet. In other words, welcome to your new home and the best four years of your life! My name is EP Stonehill, and I’m a rising Third Year hailing from the little-known, exotic paradise of Northern Virginia. Academically, I plan to major in English and minor in Media Studies. At UVA, my activities include re-realizing my love for this school every time I give a tour as a University Guide, ranting about trivial matters in my Cav Daily column entitled, “It’s a Punderful Life,” hanging out with my sorority (Kappa Delta), and playing any IM sport my post-surgery shoulder will allow. If you have any questions about these activities, feel free to email me! When I was 11 and my Hogwarts acceptance letter didn’t come, I gave up all hope. But as you’ll soon experience, Grounds is a magical place of tradition and talent where it seems everyone is a Gryffindor. Get ready for the fantasy to begin!
Sydney Tenhundfeldswt4t@virginia.edu
Welcome, welcome one and all to THE University! Get ready to hit the ground running because before you know it you’ll be a rising Fourth Year like me trying to get every last little bit of UVA goodness crammed in that you can. I like to say I’m a townie but I only moved to Charlottesville my senior year of high school from good ol’ Fairhope, AL. My name is Sydney, and I’m majoring in Sociology with the ambition of becoming a licensed clinical social worker when I grow up. In my time at UVA, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my sorority (Chi Omega), sustained dialogue, Inter-Sorority Council Judiciary, and volunteering with Madison House. When I’m not in Charlottesville, I love to travel and even backpacked through southern Europe solo for three months last summer. I highly recommend it! I’ll also be embarking on the Semester at Sea Short term voyage this year. I can’t wait to meet every single one of you and help you get as much out of UVA as I have. Email me with any questions. Be excited!
Will Warrenwpw7vn@virginia.edu
Class of 2015 and transfer students, welcome to your new home, the University of Virginia! These next few years are going to be some of the best of your life, I promise. I’m Will Warren, a rising Second Year from Arlington, VA. I lived there for twelve years before coming to Charlottesville but prior to that I lived in Africa (Mean Girls was based on my experiences in first grade). I’m currently studying Foreign Affairs and Religious Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences. When I’m not saying I should be going to the library or reading, I volunteer at the UVA hospital with the Madison House, talking to newly admitted patients because I once thought I wanted to be a doctor. Apart from that, I ski with our very own alpine ski team and play tennis with my friends. I can’t wait to see you all this summer and good luck!
Jack Wilsonjww2bc@virginia.edu
Fellow Cavaliers, your journey is beginning a fantastic new chapter, and I am thrilled to welcome you here! I’m Jack Wilson, an Aerospace Engineering Major/Classics Minor in the Class of 2013. As a transfer student from VCU, I know all about the excitement and apprehension of coming to this incredible place, and I look forward to introducing you to your new home. I am involved with Virginia Men’s Rowing, the UVA Salsa Club, the UVA Go Club, and Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. I’m also a Transfer Student Peer Advisor, and love helping people get their feet on the Ground(s)! I look forward to meeting you, and hope you will contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. We have your back! Welcome to the University of Virginia!
Rachel Zalegowskirkz3sd@virginia.edu
Congrats and welcome to the best place on earth, Class of 2015 and transfers! My name is Rachel Zalegowski, and I’m a rising Second Year from Fredericksburg, VA, in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences majoring in Systems Engineering. I'm involved with the University Guide Service, so please ask me any questions about specific buildings or the founding of the University. I'm also a member of the Society of Women Engineers, so feel free to talk to me about the engineering and the awesome stuff you can get involved in within the E-School. I'm a member of Kappa Delta, my sorority, and can't wait to talk to you all about the many, many ways to participate in student groups around UVA. I know you’re feeling a variety of mixed emotions about coming to college, but you’re in for the best few years of your life! If you have any questions about anything related to UVA (what are "Grounds" and why am I a "First Year"?), don’t hesitate to ask! Congrats again on your decision, and see you soon!
Faryal Zubairfz7uh@virginia.edu
Welcome, Class of 2015 and transfer students! My name is Faryal Zubair (we can work on how to pronounce it later), and I’m a rising Second Year at a school you will soon feel very proud to call home: The University of Virginia! I’m from Waynesboro, VA, a small yet wonderful town. Shout out to anyone making a transition from a small school into a much bigger one! Don’t be intimidated, I promise that it will be a fulfilling change! I am hoping to be a Foreign Affairs major because I’m very interested in politics. Also, I’m planning on pursuing International Law after finishing my undergrad. This past year, I’ve been a part of the Muslim Student Association, have tutored through the Islamic Center, and volunteered weekly at Madison House. I’m so incredibly excited to meet all of you this summer. This is the beginning of your future. This is your time. Get ready!
