The following schedules for summer 2012 will provide you with a general outline of what is covered in your Orientation program.

Transfer · July 19 & July 20

7:30 am – 8:30 am

Check-In · Student Activities Building

Sign in, have student ID photo taken in Runk Green Room (located in Hereford Residential Complex), pick up Orientation and academic information, and enjoy a light breakfast. For those who need overnight accommodations, pick up keys.

9:00 am – 9:45 am

Welcome Address · Old Cabell Hall Auditorium

Come hear about enduring traditions and new initiatives by important members of the U.Va. community including the Vice President & Chief Student Affairs Officer.

10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Dean's Meetings and Course Scheduling Workshops

Meet with the dean from your school who will present opportunities, requirements, and academic policies. Plan your fall schedule with the help of Orientation Leaders and faculty members.

College of Arts & Sciences Department Meetings · Various Locations

Incoming College of Arts & Sciences Third Years meet with a representative from the department in which you plan to declare your major.

Course Registration

Bring course selections to the following locations during your assigned time in order to register for courses.

  • Arts & Sciences: Wilson 301
  • Education: Bavaro Hall (Session E only)
  • Nursing: Claude Moore Nursing Education 1120 (Session E only)
2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Check-Out · Student Activities Building

Check-Out will not begin before 2:00 pm.

Students will pick up student ID in Runk Green Room (located Hereford Residential Complex) and register for U.Va. Emergency Alerts text messaging. *If staying overnight, you must check out the following morning by 11am at Conference Services in Page Residence Hall, located on Bonnycastle Circle, off of McCormick Road.

Ask a panel of Orientation Leaders questions about acclimating to student life.

Resource Fair · Aquatic and Fitness Center, First Floor

Participants include offices such as Office of the Dean of Students, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Office of African-American Affairs, University Career Services, International Studies Office, The Bookstore, Cavalier Advantage, Cavalier Computers, Dining, Housing and Residence Life, and Information Technology Services (ITS).

2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Hoos In: Student Financial Services · Aquatic and Fitness Center, Wet Classroom

Get questions answered about tuition, financial aid, and signing up for payment plans.

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm (Session F Only)

McIntire School of Commerce Information Session for Parents and Prospective Students · Rouss/Robertson 120

Learn about the curricula, courses, and application procedures for entering the School of Commerce.

2:00 pm – 3:30 pm

Off-Grounds Housing Fair · Aquatic and Fitness Center, First Floor

Speak with various realtors who lease apartments within the neighboring Charlottesville community.   Ask questions and get information about obtaining off-Grounds housing.

2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

Tour of Classroom Buildings · Old Cabell Hall Steps

Take a tour of the University classrooms and buildings.

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
