From Dulles International Airport (IAD)
The nearest major airport, besides CHO and RIC, is Dulles International Airport (IAD), outside Washington, D.C. IAD is about 120 miles (2 ½ hours) by car from Charlottesville. IAD itself is 40 miles west of Washington, D.C.
UVAExpress (International Students Only)
The UVAExpress is free, coordinated transportation from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., and from Charlottesville Airport to the University of Virginia on Monday, August 20, and Tuesday, August 21.

Amtrak does not service IAD or Washington International Airport (DCA). You have to go from these airports to Union Station in Washington, D.C. in order to take Amtrak to Charlottesville. Since DCA is right on the metroline it is the easiest airport to access Union Station. One-way cab fare from IAD is $20–25, but service is very limited and reservations are either required or strongly suggested.
Amtrak trains provide service from the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) Rail Station (which connects to Union Station), where free shuttles serve the airport terminal. Metro offers BWI Express Metro bus service between BWI and the Greenbelt metro station (which connects to Union Station). The service provides a direct connection between BWI and the Greenbelt Metro Station. The BWI Express/B30 service runs every 40 minutes, seven days a week to the Greenbelt Metro Station, which is located on the Green Line of the Washington Metro System. Washington Flyer Coach Service
Operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the Washington Flyer Coach Service provides a convenient link between Washington Dulles (IAD) and the West Falls Church, Virginia, Metrorail station. All coaches are disabled-accessible. The Washington Flyer website has schedules and price information. Tickets for the Flyer Coach can be purchased at Washington Dulles (IAD) at the Ground Transportation Centers' ticket counter located inside the vestibule of Door 4 on the Arrivals Level. You can board the bus at Dulles (IAD) from the Main Terminal at Door 4 located on the Arrivals Level. For additional information, call 888.927.4359.
The Washington Flyer Coach Service provides direct transportation between Dulles (IAD) and Metrorail, the region's rapid-transit system. Washington Coach Service is available every 30 minutes to link the West Falls Church, Virginia, Metrorail Station and the Airport. From Charlotteville-Albermarle Airport (CHO)
The Charlottesville Airport is located approximately 8 miles from the University. CHO is a non-hub, commercial service airport offering 46 daily non-stop flights to and from Charlotte, Philadelphia, New York/LaGuardia, Washington/Dulles, Detroit, and Atlanta. CHO is served by Delta Connection, United Express, and US Airways Express. Beginning June 9, American Eagle Airlines will offer two daily round-trip flights between Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and CHO.
You can find taxis at CHO waiting to meet nearly every incoming flight. However, you may also arrange a taxi with a local company, such as Van-on-the-Go (434.975.8267), AAA Cab Company (434.975.5555), A-C Airport Cab (434.981.0585). The average taxi fare between the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport and UVA is $15-20 plus tip (10–15%). There is no city or UVA bus to and from the airport.

From Richmond International Airport (RIC)
Richmond, the state capital, is 70 miles east of Charlottesville. There is no train service between Richmond and Charlottesville, and no bus service between RIC and Charlottesville. RIC itself is 20 miles east of Richmond.
