Hello, and congrats on UVA! My name is Suparerk, but you guys can call me Nu. I am a rising Fourth Year major in Mechanical Engineering. I was born in Thailand, raised in New Jersey, and then moved to Miami. I transferred after my Second Year from the University of Miami in Florida. I have to say that transferring to UVA has been one of the best decisions I have made. I made great friends, gained valuable experiences and acquired a great education. I am involved in Organization of Young Filipino Americans, Thai Student Organization, Kiva, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions, and I am always up for a bite to eat on the Corner or a game of tennis.
Congratulations, and welcome to UVA! My name is Janine Bakalis, and I am a rising Fourth Year majoring in Psychology. I am originally from Woodbridge, VA and transferred from Wake Forest University midway through my Second Year. While initially it was a difficult decision to transfer, I am so glad that I did, as it was definitely the right choice! I love UVA and feel so at home on Grounds. As a transfer, getting involved is one of the best decisions you can make. Luckily, there are SO many different organizations and clubs for students to get involved in. Currently, I am Social Chair of the Hellenic Society, and I recently returned from studying abroad last fall in Venice, Italy. I look forward to getting to know you all! Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have!

In addition to being involved with TSPA, I'm a member of many student organizations including Camp Kesem and my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. In other free time I have, you can find me trying to keep quiet in the McGregor room, playing lacrosse or enjoying sunny days outside on the Lawn. I'm so excited to meet all of you, so please feel free to contact me at any time!
Welcome to UVA! My name is Audrey Benton, and I am a rising Third Year from the Philadelphia area, majoring in Sociology and Special/Elementary Education in the Curry School. Get real excited for Charlottesville, the best city in the world! WAHOOWA!
Welcome to UVA! I became a Wahoo after my First Year of college. I am a history major intending to study secondary social studies education after graduation. Transferring from a 1,000 student college was incredibly nerve-wracking, but after about two days at UVA, Hooville became my home. My biggest involvement at UVA is with the University Guide Service. Learning the history of the University has made my time here so rich. If you want to learn a little history, I’m your girl. Although transferring to UVA can seem daunting, you are about to embark on the best two/three years of your life!
Congratulations, and welcome to UVA! I'm a rising Fourth Year majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Biology, and I hope to go to dental school. Here at UVA I have become involved in the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, Camp Kesem (a camp for children whose parents have cancer), my sorority Sigma Sigma Sigma, and a new start-up CIO ManiCURE for Muscular Dystrophy. I love getting off of Grounds too though, and I’m interested in exploring downtown Charlottesville and the outlying areas. I transferred the spring semester of my second Year from Vanderbilt University. I was very nervous to switch schools, but transferring has been one of the best decisions of my life. UVA has so much to offer, and I am confident that you will love it too! I am a member of the Virginia Equestrian Team and also serve as the AAS Department Representative on the Arts and Sciences Council. I can’t wait to meet you! Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you have!
When people ask me, "Where are you from?" I'm often unsure of how to answer. I was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, but, have also spent multiple years of my life in Raleigh, NC; Charlottesville, VA; Palm Harbor, FL; and now Coto de Caza, CA. I contend that each venue has played a part in developing my person. Most importantly, moving so many times has forced me to learn to try new things with enthusiasm. I very much enjoy meeting new people and sampling new experiences, no matter how far outside of my sphere they may lie. I look forward to adding my involvement in the TSPA program at UVA to this list. Let me know if you have any questions about your transition to the University.
Welcome to UVA! I’m a rising Fourth Year Nursing student from Vienna, VA. Transferring from James Madison University was a tough decision for me because I was leaving friends and a community I already knew, but once I came to UVA I finally felt at home. I know you will all feel the same way! On Grounds, I am involved in my sorority, Sigma Kappa, and I also volunteer for the Madison House Daycare Program. This summer I will be working at Georgetown University Hospital so if anyone is in the D.C. area and wants to meet up, please email me! I cannot wait for all of you to arrive in Charlottesville!

I’m part of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity. Congratulations, new Wahoos! My name is Brandy, and I’m a rising Third Year Biology major from Richmond, Virginia. I transferred to UVA after my first year at Virginia Commonwealth University. Although it was a rough transition, I now realize that transferring to UVA was definitely the right choice. UVA offers so many opportunities, and getting involved is really easy. I’m currently involved in numerous activities, such as shadowing within the UVA Health System and volunteering at a local middle school. Next semester, I plan to become involved in either cancer or infectious disease research, to manage a recently established charity for international foster children, and of course, to be one of your Transfer Student Peer Advisors! Within my two semesters at UVA, I have become involved with There’s Hope in North Korea as an education chair and Volunteers for International Students and Scholars as a language/classroom consultant.
