Hi, I'm Haley, and I'm a third year English and History major. I'm from Loudoun County, Virginia, and I transferred to UVa last year from William and Mary. I'm currently the ventures director for Nourish International, but I plan in the future to join the UVa ski team and participate in alternative spring break; one of the things I love about UVa is the wide variety of options for getting involved—there's always something new to try and new faces to meet. I'll be studying abroad for two months in Oxford this summer, but don't hesitate to email (or Facebook) me with any questions or concerns you might have. I look forward to meeting you all during fall orientation!
Congratulations and welcome again to UVa!! My name is Rachel Alben and I am a rising fourth year from Charlottesville. I am a history major and religious studies minor. Before transferring to UVa last year, I attended both James Madison University and Piedmont Virginia Community College. I have really enjoyed my time at UVa so far and have become involved several great activities including Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority and programs through Madison House such as the Service Dogs READ Program! I encourage you as a new transfer student to get involved with various activities around grounds because it is a great way to get to know other students and the University as well! I will be spending my summer here in Charlottesville interning, so I’ll be around! Remember I’m here to help you so if you have any questions, need advice or just want to talk please feel free to contact me!
My name is Katie Amrhein and I am a rising fourth year in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in government and minoring in media studies. I am from New Canaan, Connecticut and transferred here from the University of Connecticut. And so far my transfer experience has been great. I am a part of Delta Gamma and volunteer with Madison House. So, if you have questions on either let me know! I also love spending time with my family, sunbathing and mostly anything athletic (and of course UVa). This summer I plan on returning to New Canaan for a relaxing summer with friends and family, maybe with a few trips to C’ville. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me and I can’t wait to meet you all!
I’m a rising fourth year in the College with a major in Foreign Affairs and a minor in Sociology. I transferred my second year from the University of California, Berkeley, but I’m originally from Falls Church, Virginia. I’m involved in several groups around grounds, including Delta Gamma Sorority, Sustained Dialogue, and the UVa Women's Center. I encourage you to look into as many activities as you can find—it’s a great opportunity to meet people and definitely helped me adjust when I transferred. I know this transition can be scary and overwhelming, but soon you will feel just as at home at UVa as I do! I’m here to help you, so let me know if you have any questions!
Congrats and welcome new Wahoos! My name's Allison, and I'm a rising third year from Atlanta, Georgia. I transferred last fall from the George Washington University in DC, and couldn't be happier with my decision. I'm in the College majoring in Cognitive Science and Psychology, and hope to go to Med School. In addition to school work and being involved with TSPA's, I volunteer at the hospital through Madison House, run Club Cross Country, play IM tennis, and am an active member of my sorority, Pi Beta Phi. I also work as a research assistant in a Neuroscience lab. I've really come to love UVa, and I know you will, too! I'm so excited to meet all of you- please don't hesitate to get in touch with me!
My name is Lauren Berkowitz and I am a rising fourth year majoring in Anthropology and French. I'm from Lancaster, Pennsylvania and I transferred from George Washington University after my first year. I have had an amazing experience at UVa so far and cannot believe I am going to be a fourth year soon :( I am involved in a variety of activities at UVa including Alternative Spring Break, Madison House, and Greek Life. I also work at the Mellow Mushroom as a waitress. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
HELLO and Welcome. I am a rising fourth year Art History major and Foreign Affairs minor at the University. My family currently lives in Virginia Beach, VA, though I have grown up across the country. I transferred two years ago after spending my freshman year at New York University in Manhattan. My post graduate goals are to travel to central Africa with the Peace Corps and eventually make my way to graduate school in the Northeast. Here at school I am an active member in the Charlottesville arts community through the UVa Art Museum on grounds and Second Street Gallery downtown. One of my favorite extra activities is tutoring through Abundant Life (I am helping a first grader read!). My hobbies include eating and finding the best coffee places in town! So if you ever need a suggestion just let me know!
Welcome to UVa! Let me first and foremost boldly say that you have just made the best decision of your life. You're going to learn to love UVa. I am a rising third year and I transferred from Virginia Tech. I am loving UVa so far a lot. I enjoy doing service work and find myself doing a lot of volunteering. I am a member of Madison House in two programs; Housing Improvement, where I help build homes for unprivileged families, and Athletics, where I coach 2nd and 3rd graders playing Lacrosse. I am in Biomedical Engineering and plan on pursuing a Masters or PhD once I graduate. I did consider myself premed at one time, but I've learned to love Biomedical Engineering. I currently live in McLean, VA, but I was born in Michigan and raised in Ann Arbor, MI up until I was 16. In my free time I enjoy playing Lacrosse, Tennis, and doing outdoorsy stuff. My door is always open and if you have any questions for me do not hesitate to get in touch!
I’m a rising third year in the College of Arts and Sciences, planning to major in Environmental Science and minor in Spanish. I’m from McLean, Virginia, and I transferred here from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC after my first year. Although I was hesitant at first about transferring, I can definitely say that I made the right decision. There is so much do to, and getting involved is the best way to meet people, especially as a transfer. I am involved in various groups around grounds including Madison House and Greek life. Additionally, this summer I am studying abroad through U.Va’s Semester at Sea program. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but, again, congrats on being accepted, and if you have any questions at all about anything, feel free to let me know.
I’m a rising 4th year Latin American studies major in the College of Arts and Sciences. I grew up in Long Island, New York but now I live in Vienna in Northern Virginia. I transferred from the University of Miami last year and I am so glad I made the choice to come to UVa. I’m involved in UVA’s oldest co-ed acapella group, the New Dominions, I am a sister of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, and I also participate in community service groups through Madison House. There are so many ways to get involved at U.Va. and you meet a ton of new and amazing people, congrats on getting in, and I can’t wait to see you in the fall! Please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns you might have!

Welcome all to the University of Virginia! My name is Emily Falk and I am a rising 3rd year in the College, prospectively majoring in American Studies. Though I grew up in Iowa, my family moved to Harrisonburg, VA last year. I transferred from Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, and could not be more thankful I made the decision to attend UVa. Here at the University, I spend most of my days playing Women’s Club Ultimate Frisbee and absolutely love it. I had never played before and I can definitely recommend trying something new here to help with the adjustment, especially with the endless number of ways to get involved at the University. In addition to being a TSPA, I am a member of Students for Environmental Action, Habitat for Humanity, and Slow Food UVa. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for whatever reason, I would love to hear from you and look forward to meeting everyone!
I am a third-year transfer from the University of Delaware. I am from Norwalk, Connecticut and am Pre-Med and a Biology major with a minor in religious studies. I am on the Women's Club Soccer team and I volunteer at Martha Jefferson Hospital through Medical Services of Madison House. I am also in Dance Marathon, Alpha Epsilon Delta (The Pre-Medical Honor Society), and Delta Gamma. I went to Nicaragua last spring break with the Nicaraguan Orphan Fund, and this coming year I will also be in Phi Beta Kappa, and working as a Scribe in the UVa Hospital Emergency Department. This summer I will be studying abroad in the Bahamas for a month taking a Marine Biology course, and then be in Charlottesville to work. I can answer questions about any of the things I'm involved in for you, and I can try to help you with anything else! Though I was very nervous to transfer, I couldn't be happier that I did. To me, UVa definitely seems like the best place to spend your college years and I know you will enjoy it. Feel free to email me if you have any questions!
Congratulations on UVa! My name is Meredith Fay and I am a third year transfer from the University of Richmond majoring in Economics. I grew up in New Jersey, but a few months ago my family moved to Orlando. In addition to academics, I am involved with my sorority, Delta Zeta, Madison House, and Alternative Spring Break. I hope you were as excited to get your acceptance to UVa as I was. If you have questions or need advice on anything let me know. Can’t wait to meet you and enjoy your summer!
Hey new transfers! I transferred from Northern Virginia Community College this past spring semester so for those of you coming from a community college I know firsthand what the experience is like. I am strongly involved in community service and encourage anyone interested in learning about the university and the Charlottesville area to become involved with any of the many numerous volunteer programs around campus. Before graduating from community college I completed a year of service in a program called AmeriCorps where I served six months in and around New Orleans helping rebuild the city after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Now, as a third year Biology major with a minor in psychology I am involved with the university’s Mentoring Leadership Program and Madison House’s Adopt-A-Grandparent program. I can’t wait to meet all of you and if you have any questions about transferring I encourage you
Welcome to UVa! My name is Jiamin Gao, and I'm rising third year in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Financial Mathematics and hoping to be in the Comm School next semester. I transferred from the University of Science and Technology Beijing, China. I have a lot of knowledge about transferring credits and applying to the Comm School, because as a former Safety Engineering major, I had to adjust quickly to the “international transition” both in academics and in life within a very short period of time. I'm also involved in various student activities, such as FAME (a fashion club), CTDT (a dancing team) and APALTI (a leadership training institute), etc. Just after my first semester here, I was invited to the interviews by J.P. Morgan, Lazard and UBS, and through the process, I got to know a lot about UCS. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!
I am a rising fourth year from Virginia Beach, Virginia. Prior to living in Virginia Beach I lived in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. I transferred to the University from Tidewater Community College and am currently majoring in Biology with the hopes to one day go to medical school. Transferring to the University was a life changing experience and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. It seems like the time here has just flown by. If I could give transfers one piece of advice it would be to go out there and get involved. It makes your time here one that you won’t soon forget. The transition can be difficult at times so please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions that you may have. Congratulations on your acceptance!
I'm a rising fourth year in the College. I'm from Atlanta, GA and transferred to UVa in the fall of my second year. I went to Southern Methodist University my first year when I was wait-listed at UVa. Transferring is without a doubt the best decision I've ever made; UVa has so much to offer both on and off Grounds. In addition to being involved with TSPAs, I sit on Honor Board for my sorority, Delta Gamma, a member of the Executive Board for Greek Intervarsity, and am 4th Year Trustee. I also attend RUF meetings. Transferring can be tough at times but I promise it's worth it. I'm the 7th person in my family to go to UVa, so I grew up visiting Grounds and hearing stories about the amazing UVa experience. I couldn't be happier than I am now; I love UVa. I'm so excited y'all are all coming to UVa in the fall! Please don't hesitate to send me an email if you have any questions, concerns, anything!
I’m a rising 3rd year Chemistry major in the College of Arts and Sciences. I grew up on the Outer Banks of North Carolina but now I live in Winchester, VA. I transferred from Georgetown University last year, after taking a year off from school, and I am so glad I made the choice to come to UVa. I’m involved with UVa’s Circle K, I am a Medical Services Program Director with Madison House, and I also run EMS with Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad as an EMT-B. I stay busy and love every minute of being a student here! Congrats on getting in! There are so many activities to get involved with and you meet tons of amazing, talented people here. Please feel free to email me at any time if you would like advice or have any questions—or if would like to grab coffee (since I’m addicted)! I look forward to meeting you all in the fall.
Welcome to Virginia! It’s been a long journey but the hard work paid off and now you’re here at UVa. I hope to be as available to you as a fellow transfer student and as a peer advisor. I am a second-year transfer from the University of Maryland and I went to high school in Dover, Delaware. I am studying biology and economics, preparing myself for medical school. I’m involved with the school fellowship called Grace Christian Fellowship and Student Council. Personally, it’s been a tough road getting here, but it was definitely worth the travel. Don’t be afraid to email me or call with questions. I wish you the best!
I am a rising 4rd year Biology major from Wilton, Connecticut. I transferred from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, and it was the best decision of my life! I can’t wait to meet all of you! Enjoy the rest of your summer! Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
I am a rising fourth year majoring in Spanish in the College of Arts and Sciences. I am from Rockland County, New York and transferred here from Loyola College in Maryland. Immediately upon arriving on grounds, I knew I had made the right decision and I am confident you will feel the same way. The University has so much to offer, and some of the activities and organizations that I have gotten involved with are Madison House, McIntire Women’s Business Forum, and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. The transition can be difficult at times, but feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I know you’re going to love it here and I can’t wait to meet you!
I am a rising fourth year in the McIntire School of Commerce, concentrating in Marketing and Management. In addition to my participation in Transfer Student Peer Advising program, I am serving as a Transfer Mentor at McIntire. I enjoy interacting with new people and I also have a strong passion for automobiles. I want to combine the two and work with an automobile company like Bavarian Motor Works. I will be interning with University Directories this summer as an Account Representative in Charlottesville area. I currently reside in Vienna, Virginia close to Tyson’s Corner. I have to echo with others that the University of Virginia is certainly the best place to spend your college years. I am proud to attend U.Va and I know you will too. Congratulations on being accepted and welcome to University of Virginia!
I'm a rising fourth year. I'm premed and majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. I transferred from the George Washington University after my first year, and I'm from the small town and state Newark, Delaware. Other than being a TSPA, my activities include being an EMT with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, Program Director/volunteer for Madison House, the University Dance Club, and Global Medical Brigades (mission trip to Honduras). Transferring to UVa was the best decision I've ever made; I love every aspect of this school, and I'm sure all of you will love it just as much as I do! I am so excited to meet you all and know exactly what you're going through so don't hesitate to email me with any questions!
Firstly, welcome to UVa and congrats on getting in! I am a rising third year majoring in Philosophy and Sociology. Originally from Falls Church, VA I attended Villanova University for my first year. It was hard leaving Villanova and the friends I had made there, and I had doubts about my decision to transfer to UVa. Having been here almost a year, I cannot tell you how glad I am that I went through with the switch and how proud it makes me to be a student here! UVa is a school that I could not help loving, and I know you will love it too. Currently I am involved in the International Relations Organization, NEW (Network of Enlightened Women), and Madison House Tutoring. If you have any questions about any of those or anything else, feel free to email me. Get pumped for the Fall!
Congratulations new Cavaliers and welcome to the University of Virginia! I’m Jenna Mullady, a rising third-year in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in English and Psychology. I come from Williamsburg, Virginia, and I transferred to UVa in the fall of my second-year from the University of North Carolina, a decision I’ve never regretted. When I’m not wasting time on the Lawn or enjoying the amazing city of Charlottesville, I’m involved with the University Guide Service, the Virginia Literary Review, Zeta Tau Alpha, as well as being a Orientation Leader and a Research Assistant. This past semester, I also got the opportunity to participate in Alternate Winter Break in New Orleans. Other than that, I love listening to A Cappella music, going for long runs around Grounds, and absurdly long e-mail threads. I am SO excited to meet all of you and get your time here off to a great start, so please feel free to e-mail me with ANY questions!

First off, I would like to be one of the first to say … Congratulations! I cannot wait to get to know you and for you to experience everything that the University of Virginia has to offer. Life here at “The University” is amazing to say the least. I personally transferred here in the fall of 2007 from Florida Community College at Jacksonville after obtaining my AA, and needless to say, I have loved every minute. Transferring from FCCJ to the University of Virginia was a bit of a challenge at times, but I am confident that you will love it here as much as I do. Getting involved in a variety of extracurricular activities such as Madison House helped ease my transition. I am currently a double major in Psychology and Sociology and I am planning on attending graduate school in the fall of 2010. If you have any questions regarding activities, classes, teachers, majors, housing, etc. or just want to get to know someone before you move here, please know that I am always available. Again, congratulations on becoming a new Wahoo!
Welcome to University of Virginia! Go Wahoo's!! I am a rising forth year transfer from Dumfries, Virginia. I attended Northern Virginia Community College before coming to U.Va and obtained my Associate’s Degree in General Studies. I am in the College of Arts and Science majoring in American Politics. UVa has been a great learning experience for me this past year and next year should be even better. I know that the transition can be overwhelming but remember that there are many people here who can help you! I recommend looking into any clubs and activities that you want to join and get involved! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to e-mail me!

This summer I will be working at Patagonia, an outdoor clothing store in my hometown and will be catching up on some courses at a local community college. Though I was initially afraid to transfer, this move to UVa was the greatest decision of my life. I am positive that you will soon feel the same and will fall in love with the University! Give it a chance and get involved! I am always available to chat; please email me if you have any questions about Grounds or concerns about transferring. Can’t wait to meet you this summer and fall semester!

I am a brother of the Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, in the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, and in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT). This summer I will be in Milan, Italy taking courses, but don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions. I know I had tons of questions to ask previous transfers, so ask away!

Hey guys, I’m a rising 4th year, but I’m pulling a 5th year so I’m not leaving anytime soon. I’m majoring in Mechanical Engineering along with a Business Minor. I transferred from UC San Diego, but my hometown is still in New Jersey. I’m actively involved in the Organization of Young Filipino Americans as Membership Chair and I’m in the midst of starting the first chapter of the Formula SAE collegiate design series, where our team builds a race-car. Transferring can be tough. It was for me, especially after leaving some good friends and sunny San Diego, but the opportunities, both personal and educational, are endless here at UVa. Expect some good friends, good times, and a good education. I encourage you to get involved in clubs/organizations/sports that catch your interest as soon as you arrive. Remember, you’re not alone here, so ask me any questions or concerns you have. I’m there for you, so don’t hesitate to contact me for help or for a bite to eat on the corner.

Currently, I write for the Tableau section of the Cavalier Daily and am also in a sorority—both have been great ways to meet new people.
