Waynesboro Bus Service Rolls to Success

Waynesboro's new bus service is showing early signs of success. The city launched the Waynesboro Circulator on May 11 to boost public transportation for the elderly, disabled and people without cars.

The bus makes 17 stops across the city and costs 50 cents a ride. More Info...

City Transit Service to Add Hybrid Trolleys

The Charlottesville Transit Service will soon be adding hybrid buses to its 38-bus fleet, a first for the service as it tries to use more fuel-efficient technology. “It’s a cleaner bus than we have today,” said Bill Watterson, CTS’ transit manager. In terms of getting more residents to use transit, Watterson said, “For some folks that may be a difference.” The purchase - which, for now, will be two "trolley"-style buses - is possible because of $1.3 million in federal economic stimulus funds that CTS will receive in the next fiscal year, which begins July 1.   July 12 Walnut Creek Chimney Chase
- Charlottesville Racing Club, Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Club
Third annual Chimney Chase incorporating most of the trail system at Walnut Creek Park. The 10.5 mile laps are suited for all-a-rounds as there is a fair bit of climbing, smooth fast decents and a few technical sections. Proceeds will go to the Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Club (CAMBC) who keep the trails at Walnut Creek open and work with local governments to create new mountain bike opportunities in the area. Transportation Tomorrow Workshop Presentation Now Available
- Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC)

Early survey results from a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) funded project were presented to the public at the Transportation Tomorrow Workshop on May 21st. Data presented was taken from a random phone survey of 300 residents of Charlottesville/Albemarle area. The results will be combined with results from related surveys to create a Regional Transit Assessment Toolkit. More Info...

Triathlon Club C'Ville International

8th annual C'Ville Sprint at Walnut Creek Park features a lake swim (.9 miles), a beautiful bike ride through Southern Albemarle (23.5 miles), and a run through the parks shaded trails (6 miles). The C'Ville International has been rated as one of the "Top 10 International Races in the South East" by Blue Ridge Magazine. More Info...

Each summer, Charlottesville Transit Service (CTS) offers a Youth Ride FREE program that is open to residents of the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, ages 6 to 18.
