CAVPOOL: Cavalier Carpool Program

CAVPOOL: Cavalier Commuting Option
Greetings from Parking and Transportation!
Recently, the cost of commuting to work has become a cause for great concern to many in the University community. This, in addition to concerns about the environmental impact of single occupancy vehicle commuting, has led many of us to consider our transportation options more carefully. For those who live on a Charlottesville Transit Service (CTS) or University Transit Service (UTS) bus line, there is already a no-cost option for commuting to work. The University pays a subsidy to the City of Charlottesville to allow its faculty, staff, and students to ride CTS buses at no charge, simply by showing a University ID. As always, UTS does not charge a fare. With the University’s new GPS (Global Positioning System) installed on University and city buses you may easily monitor the estimated arrival time for the next bus.

For those who are not served by these transit options, the Department of Parking & Transportation (P&T) is pleased to announce new incentives to  encourage and support employees who carpool or vanpool. Offered through P&T’s Transportation Demand Management program, this new package is called “CavPool”. CavPool incentives include reduced permit rates, access to free occasional parking permits, a free guaranteed ride home when needed, and preferred parking assignments.
