Amtrak

Charlottesville is served by three Amtrak intercity passenger rail routes. The Charlottesville Amtrak Station (CVS) is conveniently located between U.Va and Downtown. Students can easily get to the downtown station on the Charlottesville Area Transit's (CAT) Free Trolley and Route 7 which students can ride for free with their valid U.Va ID.

• Northeast Regional
  The Northeast Regional offers convenient and affordable travel up and down the Northeast Corridor. The Northeast Regional originates in Lynchburg with destinations in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, BWI, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and as far as Boston.   The Northeast Regional leaves Charlottesville daily at 8:52am (Monday-Friday) and at 11:13am (Saturday and Sunday). Commuters heading to DC can arrive in just over 2 hours.
  
  

• Cardinal
  The Cardinal operates between New York and Chicago three days a week, offering unforgettable views of the Southeast's stunning natural beauty.
  
  The Cardinal departs Charlottesville at 2:47pm towards New York City on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The Cardinal departs Charlottesville at 1:55pm towards Chicago on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
• Crescent
  The Crescent offers convenient daily service between New York City and New Orleans. Enjoy a hot dinner in the Dining Car and mingle with your fellow travelers in the Lounge Car.
  
  The Crescent departs Charlottesville at 7:20am towards New York City daily. The Crescent departs Charlottesville at 8:52pm towards New Orleans daily.

• Dulles (IAD)
  
From Union Station (WAS) - 50 Massachusetts Avenue NE, 20002
• Take Metro Red Line to Metro Center Metro Station
• Transfer to Metro Orange Line to Rosslyn
• Walk a short distance North from Rosslyn to North Moore Street to catch the 5A bus to Dulles.
From Alexandria Amtrak Station (ALX) - 110 Callahan Drive, 22301
• Walk short distance from Station to Metro's Alexandria King Street Station
• Take Metro Blue Line to Rosslyn
• Walk a short distance North from Rosslyn to North Moore Street to catch the 5A bus to Dulles.
• Reagan National Airport (DCA)
From Union Station (WAS) - 50 Massachusetts Avenue NE, 20002

• Take Metro Red Line to Metro Center Metro Station
• Transfer to Blue Line to National Airport Metro Station
From Alexandria Amtrak Station (ALX) - 110 Callahan Drive, 22301

• Walk short distance from Station to Metro's Alexandria King Street Station
• Take either the Metro Blue Line or Metro Yellow Line to the National Airport Metro Station

• Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI)
• Amtrak's Northeast Regional trains provide service to the BWI Marshall Rail Station, where free shuttles serve the airport terminal. Shuttle stops are located on the lower level terminal roadway in between door numbers 1 & 2, 8 & 9, 14 & 15, and 17 & 18. The BWI Rail Station is located one mile from the terminal building. From Union Station (WAS) - Crescent or Cardinal Line

• Transfer to the Amtrak Northeast Regional line with service to the BWI Marshall Rail Station.
• Transfer to the MARC Penn Line with service to the BWI Marshall Rail Station.
