The Central Grounds Garage is conveniently located under the University Bookstore and is near Newcomb Hall, Memorial Gymnasium, Brown College at Monroe Hill, and the Clemons Library. The Garage may be accessed from Emmet Street (Route 29) between McCormick Road and University Avenue. The Central Grounds garage is available for visitor/hourly parking (click here for rates). Departments may also establish validation accounts to cover parking fees for their guests. Please note that department guests validations are not meant for employees or students. All vehicles parking in the Central Grounds Garage must vacate by 1:00am each day. Overnight parking is not permitted. Visitors needing overnight parking accommodations may purchase a temporary BLUE permit to park in the lots at U-Hall. Please stop by the Parking and Transportation Office for more information.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

Electric Vehicle Charging Station

A Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Station is available to visitors on the second floor of the Central Grounds Parking Garage.

The Station was funded by grants from the Parents Committee and Student Council's Green Initiatives Funding Tomorrow (GIFT) program. The grants were secured by 4th year student Kyle Smalkowski of the RideForward student organization.

The stations is available for use for up to 4 hours at a time for a $2 fee. Hourly parking rates also apply.

Directions to the Central Grounds Garage

Utilize exit 118B off Interstate 64 and travel toward Charlottesville on the 29/250 Bypass. Take the second exit onto Route 250 Business East. Turn right at the top of the exit. Turn right onto Emmet Street (Route 29) at fourth traffic signal, travel 2 blocks, and then turn left into the Central Grounds Garage.


University Transit Service

The Central Grounds Garage is primarily serviced by UTS at the bus stop located on Emmet Street just outside of the garage. Riders may also utilize other UTS routes at stops located along McCormick Road, a short walk from the Bookstore/top level of the garage.

  • Green Route: Service to the Health System, the Emmet/Ivy Garage, and U-Hall
    From McCormick Road (short walk from Bookstore level of garage)
  • Northline: Service to Hereford College, Emmet/Ivy Garage, U-Hall, North Grounds, and the Barracks Road Shopping Center
  • Outer U-Loop: Service to Scott Stadium and the Health System.
  • Central Grounds Shuttle: Service to Emmet/Ivy Garage, U-Hall, and Copeley Family Housing
  • Colonnade Shuttle: Service to Emmet/Ivy Garage and U-Heights
