Parking Validations for University Department Guests

Department Guests on Grounds


General Information

University departments may apply for a permanent validation account to cover the parking fees for visitors of their department parking in the Central Grounds Garage. Alternatively, departments may apply for a temporary validation account to cover the parking fees for visitors parking in the Central Grounds Garage who are attending events that the department is hosting on Grounds.

Parking Accommodations for Department Visitors

Department visitors may park in the Central Grounds Garage located on Emmet Street near Alumni Hall. Visitors are to stop at the in-lane ticket dispensing machine, press the button for a White Ticket to dispense, take the ticket from the machine, wait for the gate to open automatically, and then proceed into the garage. If a visitor proceeds all the way to the gate arm without pulling a dispensed ticket, the gate will not function correctly and the visitor will be asked to back off the control loops and begin the process again. Visitors will then obtain a Blue Validation Ticket from the Department they are visiting. Parking Accommodations for Events

Departments may request validations for guests attending events on Grounds that the department is hosting. Due to high turnover and parking demand in the Central Grounds Garage, Parking and Transportation is not able to reserve spaces within the garage. However, departments may still validate parking for their guests. If and when the Central Grounds Garage reaches capacity, additional guests will be directed to the parking lots at University Hall (U-Hall) which is served by several free University Transit Service bus routes.

Guests attending department sponsored events will not be issued Blue Validation tickets. Instead, event attendees should give their White Parking Ticket to the Booth Attendant and let the attendant know which event they were attending. Departments may also choose to have attendees identified by presenting an invitation, name badge, or written memo from the department. Setting Up an Account

To set up an account, please download the fill out the appropriate validation form. To setup a permanent account for visitors, please download the Department Guest Validation Form. To setup a temporary account for a special event, please download the Special Event Validation Form. Once completed, please fax the form to 434-924-3980 or mail the form to the attention of the Facilities Operations Division at the Parking and Transportation Office located at P.O. 400000, Charlottesville, VA 22904.

Once received, Parking and Transportation Facilities Operations Office will send an e-mail to the address provided on the request form to acknowledge that the request has been approved or denied. Once approved, the requested validation tickets will be available for pick up at the Parking and Transportation Office located at 1101 Millmont Street within 3 business days.
