New Employee Orientation Parking Information

Academic Employees

 
Location: New Employee Orientation for Academic Staff employees is held at the Aquatics and Fitness Fitness Center (AFC). Orientation for Staff is held every other Monday, while orientation for faculty is held every other Wednesday. Please contact Human Resources for more information about new employee orientation including dates, times, and other important information.
Parking: Parking is available at the Slaughter Recreation Center located at 505 Edgemont Road. Aquatics and Fitness Center (AFC)
Directions to the Slaughter Recreation Center: From Interstate 64 take exit 118-B towards Charlottesville (Route 29). Stay in the right lane in order to take the first exit off Route 29. Turn right onto Fontaine Avenue. Proceed to the second traffic light and take a left onto Maury Avenue, which will become Alderman Road. Turn left onto McCormick Road and proceed to the three-way stop sign. Turn right at the stop sign onto Edgemont Road and take the first left into the Slaughter Recreation Center parking lot.

From here, the Aquatics & Fitness Center is a short walk back down McCormick Road to the intersection of McCormick Road and Alderman Road. Turn right onto Alderman Road. The Aquatics and Fitness Center (AFC) is a short walk to the corner of the intersection of Alderman Road and Whitehead Road. New Employee Orientation is typically held on the second floor. Walking time is approximately 10 minutes.
   

Health System Employees

 
Location: New Employee Orientation for Health Systems is typically held in the Center for Organizational Development (COD) Building located at 999 Grove Street every other Monday.  
Parking: New employees will receive a temporary Blue parking permit to park in the lots at University Hall (U-Hall) and at the John Paul Jones Arena (JPJ) prior to orientation. Please refer to the map below for available parking areas noted in blue.  
Please note that some events at the John Paul Jones Arena will require vehicles to vacate the JPJ lots and possibly the U-Hall lots. Please check the JPJ Event Impact Schedule prior to your orientation date to check for any possible parking restrictions on the day of your orientation. Typically, vehicles are not required to vacate the lots at U-Hall until 5:30pm during the week (Monday-Friday). However, vehicles at the JPJ lot and garage may be required to vacate prior to 5:30pm. Please contact us if you have any questions.  
Directions to University Hall (U-Hall): From Interstate 64 take exit 118-B towards Charlottesville (Route 29/250 Bypass). Take the third exit onto Leonard Sandridge Road. Go straight through traffic signal, road will become Massie Road. The U-Hall parking lots are accessible from Massie Road, or you may turn right onto Copeley Road to access the parking lot.  
Transportation: The University Transit Service provides service from U-Hall to the Health System via the Green Route. The Green Route picks up passengers directly in front of U-Hall and at the edge of the U-Hall West lot on Massie Road (sheltered bus stop). Employees can take the bus from U-Hall to the bus stop located on Lee Street across from the main hospital in about 15 minutes. From there, employees will need to walk to the end of Lee Street, go left along Crispell Drive, right on the 9th-10th Street Connector (also called Roosevelt Brown Boulevard), and then go right onto Grove Street.

Blue Permit Map

New Health System Employees reporting to Orientation will be sent a blue permit to park in the lots noted in blue in the above map. The areas noted in red on the above map are restricted. Please contact the Health Systems Human Resources Department if you do not receive your permit prior to orientation. Please note that certain events at the John Paul Jones Arena will require vehicles to vacate the JPJ lots and possibly the U-Hall lots depending on the event. New employees should check the JPJ Impact Schedule prior to their orientation date to check for any possible restrictions.
