Author of The Development of Plato's Political Theory (1986); The Principle of Fairness and Political Obligation (1992; reissued with a new Introduction, 2004); Democratic Procedures and Liberal Consensus (2000); Jacobinism and Utopianism: The Political Theory of Fundamental Moral Reform (2003); Political Obligations (2005); Second Edition of The Development of Plato's Political Theory (2006); also History of Political Theory, An Introduction: Volume I, Ancient and Medieval Political Theory (1993); Volume II, Modern Political Theory (1995); co-edited The Struggle for Women's Rights: Theoretical and Historical Sources, with Margaret G. Klosko (1999); Perfectionism and Neutrality: Essays in Liberal Theory, co-edited with Steven Wall (2003); and edited Aristotle, a collection of articles (forthcoming). Currently editing The Oxford Handbook of the History of Political Philosophy. Has also published more than forty articles in Political Science, Philosophy, and Classics journals.
