(Ph.D., Harvard University), Associate Professor, Honors Program Director. Field: International Relations (theory, U.S. foreign policy, international security, and the effects of ideologies and cultures on world politics). He is the author of Liberal Peace, Liberal War: American Politics and International Security (Cornell University Press, 1997) and of The Clash of Ideas in World Politics: Transnational Networks, States, and Regime Change 1500-2000 (Princeton University Press, forthcoming). He is also co-editor of Religion, the Enlightenment, and the New Global Order (Columbia University Press, forthcoming). He has published work in Foreign Affairs, International Organization, Internationale Politik und Gesellschaft, International Security, International Studies Quarterly, Perspectives on Politics, The National Interest, and several edited volumes. Professor Owen is the recipient of fellowships from the Olin Institute for Strategic Studies at Harvard, and the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford, and the Center of International Studies at Princeton. He is a member of the editorial board of International Security, and is a Faculty Fellow at UVa's Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture.
