Denise Walsh is Assistant Professor of Politics and Studies in Women and Gender. She received her M.A. from Columbia University and her Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research. Her dissertation, "Just Debate: Culture and Gender Justice in the New South Africa," received the Best Dissertation Prize for the Women in Politics Research Sectionof the American Political Science Association in 2007. The dissertation examines whether popular support for gender justice increases as public debate becomes more open and inclusive. Walsh co-edited and contributed to the March 2006 special edition of the Journal of Southern African Studies . Her article in that issue, "The Liberal Moment: Women and Just Debate in South Africa" was co-winner of the Journal of Southern African Studies 2006 Best Article Prize.
