Michael Strine of Johns Hopkins Is Named U.Va. Executive VP and COO
May 12, 2011
To the University community,
I am pleased to write you with good news. At a meeting of the Board of Visitors this afternoon, I announced the selection of Michael Strine, the current CFO of Johns Hopkins, as the University's next executive vice president and COO.
Michael will succeed Leonard Sandridge, who will retire July 1 after 44 years of extraordinary leadership and service to the University.
I believe that we have found in Michael a worthy successor. He has a well-honed understanding of the academic environment and is sensitive to the dynamics of a university with a world-class research environment as well as a top-ranked undergraduate program. He also has a deep understanding of academic medicine. Included below is a copy of the official announcement which will help you understand why Michael was chosen.
I wish to express my gratitude to all members of the search committee, led by Carl Zeithaml, who worked diligently to find the very best candidate.
Michael's first day at the University will be July 5, although he and his family plan to join us for Finals Weekend. I hope that many of you will have an opportunity to join me in welcoming them into our community.
