Nominations open for annual TJ Awards
July 17, 2012
Dear University colleagues:
The Thomas Jefferson Awards Committee is now soliciting nominations for the this year's awards. These are the highest honors given to members of our community.
Nominees should be members of the community who best exemplify in character, work, and influence the principles and ideals of Thomas Jefferson, and thus have advanced the objectives for which Jefferson founded the University.
One award, sponsored since 1955 by the McConnell Foundation, recognizes excellence in service to the University. The other, which was established in 2009 by the Alumni Board of Trustees Endowment Fund, recognizes excellence in scholarship.
Recipients must have been at the University for at least 15 years. Those who have retired are not eligible. Nominations with supporting data (e.g., resume/curriculum vita, letters) are to be sent to the chair of the Thomas Jefferson Awards Committee, Leake Cottage, P.O. Box 400139 by noon on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012. Each award consists of a citation and a cash prize.
I will present these awards this year at the Fall Convocation, which will occur on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the John Paul Jones Arena. In the meantime, I encourage you to nominate colleagues you believe are deserving of this important recognition.
