Join in Our Strategic Planning Process
December 3, 2012
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
As we approach the end of 2012 and the beginning of a new year, we have begun the process of shaping the University's future for the next decade and beyond. The strategic planning initiative that we launched this fall is now fully under way, with faculty, staff, students, alumni and parents engaged in thoughtful, candid discussions about UVa's strengths and weaknesses and its opportunities for greater distinction in the years ahead. These ongoing discussions will undergird the plan we eventually create.
The strategic planning website (http://strategicplanning.virginia.edu) provides information about the steering committee and working groups that are leading the work, as well as related documents and a timeline of activities. To learn more about the historical context for the planning initiative and why we are undertaking it now, you can read my essay in the current issue of Virginia magazine at http://bit.ly/RiB5GD.
In the coming weeks, the working groups will hold open forums here on Grounds. Four sessions have been scheduled thus far:
- Public University, December 12, 2012
- Synergies, December 13, 2012
- Faculty Recruitment, Retention and Development, January 14, 2013
- Streamlining, January 15, 2013
Again, please visit the strategic planning website (http://strategicplanning.virginia.edu/meeting-schedule) for complete information.
I encourage our students, faculty and staff to remain engaged with this process in the months ahead, check the website regularly, and offer your advice as we continue the work of envisioning and building the University's future.
