Dr. Richard Guerrant Receives the Thomas Jefferson Award for Scholarship

11/05/2010 - Dr. Richard L. Guerrant, the director of the University of Virginia's Center for Global Health, receives the Thomas Jefferson Award for excellence in scholarship. U.Va. President Teresa Sullivan presents the award, which is the University's highest honor. Dr. Geurrant is a leading authority on gastrointestinal pathogens who established the University's Center for Global Health in 1979. He joined the faculty of the School of Medicine in 1974.



Darden Professor John Colley Receives Thomas Jefferson Award for Service

11/05/2010 - University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan presents the 2010 Thomas Jefferson Award for excellence in service to John L. Colley Jr., the Almand R. Coleman Professor at the Darden School of Business. The Thomas Jefferson Award is the University's highest honor. Professor Colley has served on the Darden faculty since 1967. He is widely admired by faculty, students and countless alumni. He has received numerous teaching awards and there also is a fellowship in his name.

President Sullivan extends her thanks to all donors, noting how their gifts will help to shape the learning experience of students today and into the future. The South Lawn houses classroom and office space for the departments of history, politics, and religious studies. It also has generous and important common spaces for study and for faculty-student interaction.

Sullivan kicked off the events on Aug. 18, welcoming the participants with opening remarks in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium. This year's August Teaching Workshop: Getting Connected is re-envisioned and tailored to the needs of experienced faculty, as well as incoming faculty, said Marva Barnett, TRC founding director and professor in the French department.

President Sullivan Accepts Her Nomination
