UVA Faculty Senate to Meet in Emergency Session on Sunday
June 15, 2012 — The University of Virginia Faculty Senate will hold an emergency meeting Sunday at 5 p.m. in Abbott Auditorium at the Darden School of Business (map).
Meetings are open to the public and the media. UVA faculty are being encouraged to attend.
The Senate's bylaws allow the Faculty Senate Executive Committee to meet during times of emergency and to pass resolutions that are then considered by the Senate at its next meeting. The Executive Committee approved a resolution Thursday that expressed strong support for President Teresa Sullivan and was a no-confidence vote in the rector, vice rector and Board of Visitors. (The full text of the resolution can be found on the Faculty Senate website.)
Also, a silent gathering in support of President Sullivan will be held Monday on the Lawn while the Board of Visitors is meeting in the Rotunda to consider candidates for interim president. Participants will gather at 2:30 p.m. in the Colonnade Club (Pavilion VII) and walk to the Rotunda.
