University of Virginia Process Simplification

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT CHALLENGE

The Process Improvement Project Challenge provides an opportunity for all University employees to submit improvement ideas to the Office of Process Simplification (PS) for consideration. The goal is to provide a means for employees to identify areas in need of change and promote improvement across Grounds. The outcome is to implement streamlined services, products, or processes; maximize resources; and improve communication around the University.

How projects will be evaluated:
PS staff and the Process Simplification Advisory Committee (PSAC) will review and evaluate submitted proposals based on: clarity of the issue; alignment with institutional priorities and/or department mission; degree of benefit; level of required financial resources (if applicable); and potential impact to University departments, students, faculty and staff. PS staff may conduct interviews with applicants to gather additional information needed to complete the evaluation. All submitters will be contacted on the outcome of the review.

Benefits to Selected Projects:
PS staff will further investigate opportunities, conduct research, and identify other similar successful efforts internal and external to the University for selected projects. If a team approach is utilized, PS will facilitate the team, assist in the use of project management, provide recommendations for improvement, and collaborate with unit/department-heads to implement the solution as appropriate.

How to apply:
Interested employees may submit their contact information and a general overview of the project idea by visiting the surveymonkey form here, or by contacting PS for a hard copy form at 924-1344. Submissions will be accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. The first project evaluation and selection took place in December 2008. Submissions received after December 2008 will be evaluated in the Spring of 2009.
