Psychology: Graduate Program

Graduate Program

The purpose of the graduate programs in the Department of Psychology at the University of Virginia is to prepare the student for research, both basic and applied, and teaching. The department offers Ph.D. programs in seven areas of psychology: clinical, cognitive, community, developmental, quantitative, sensory and systems neuroscience, and social. Various combinations of these specialties are possible, depending on students' interests and professional goals. Students should apply, however, to one of these seven areas of specialization. Note that the department does not offer a terminal master's degree; we expect that all graduate students will work toward the Ph.D.

If you have specific questions about the graduate program which are not addressed in the information provided, please contact Ms. Debbie Snow, the Psychology Department Admission Secretary, at dsnow@virginia.edu.
