Academic Record Access

The University of Virginia only releases educational records in compliance with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). The intent of this Act is to protect the rights of students and to ensure the privacy and accuracy of the educational records.

The quickest and easiest way to obtain grades at the University of Virginia is for the student to do so by accessing SIS. The student has 24 hour access to their academic information through SIS. The student may also order an official transcript. The University urges parents and students to communicate about academic record matters.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia the educational records of a tax dependent student are available to his/her parents in compliance with House Bill 1058, as allowed within the guidelines of FERPA. Dependency information is collected at the beginning of each academic year. Parents are encouraged to talk with their student regarding academic performance/grades. The University of Virginia has created a process for parents to obtain the most recent semester grades for their student if necessary. Please contact UREG for more information about this option. You may send inquiries to [email protected].
