Diplomas for Spring graduates will be available for pickup at UREG (Office of the University Registrar) in Carruthers Hall on Monday, May 19, 2008, after 2:00 PM. The Dissertation and Thesis information may not be available for another 48 hours. To ensure an accurate transcript you should wait until June 2nd, to order an official copy. Degree information for the Law School will not appear on the transcript until the week of June 16th. To claim your diploma, bring a photo I.D. to UREG (Office of the University Registrar) during regular business hours. If you wish to have someone pick up your diploma for you, that person must bring a letter including your student I.D. number and signature giving them permission to claim your diploma. Diplomas can also be mailed upon payment of a mailing fee (see Diploma Mailing below). August and January graduates are asked to keep their permanent address updated in ISIS so that they will receive information about participating in the graduation ceremony on May 18, 2008.

Replacement/Duplicate
Diplomas Duplicate Diplomas: A duplicate copy of a diploma may be requested upon payment of the diploma fee and (unless diploma will be claimed in person) the mailing fee. A duplicate diploma will have the word 'copy' inscribed at the bottom.
Certifications: If you need a copy of your diploma for certification purposes, we recommend that you first verify that some other document won't serve the purpose. Usually, companies or government agencies are looking for official proof of graduation, and only in rare cases involving foreign governments is a copy of the actual diploma needed. A certification or transcript can be obtained for less cost and in less time (click here for information on how to order a certification). If you do in fact need a copy of your diploma for certification purposes, take your original diploma to a copy center and have an 8.5" x 11" photocopy made. Then, mail the photocopy to UREG (Office of the University Registrar) and we will certify and notarize it as being a true copy of the original. For information on obtaining international authentification (also known as The Hague Apostille) on diplomas or diploma copies, contact the Virginia Secretary of the Commonwealth in Richmond. Questions: Contact ureg@virginia.edu for more information. |
